Studies have shown that 90% of teenagers in the United States play video games. 70% of heads of family units play video games, as well. That shows that the majority of teenagers and young adults play some sort of video game. Society is changing and non-gamers are in effect deserted. Those conceived in the time frame of 1978 and 2000, also known as millennials, grew up playing video games. Home video game frameworks (known as platforms), for example, Atari, Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, and PCs, were well known before they started elementary school. These teenagers and young adults have taken an interest in the quick advancement of video games from the most straightforward of games like Pong, produced by Atari in 1973, to games like the realistic Call of Duty, released over numerous consoles in 2003. To play Pong players controlled a joystick on a controller to move a white line here and there one side of their TV screen to keep a white dot or ball from moving beyond their white line. There are many sorts of video games, however most can be put into a few general genre, the most questionable of which are "first person shooters", otherwise called FPS. These games utilize the point of view of the character being played; pulling the gamer from the more remote supernatural view also known as the third person viewpoint. FPS games likewise tend to be violent games where the primary objective is to shoot enemies. Today’s teenagers and young adults play large amounts of these types,
It is true that there have been many debates over this topic of video games but most people don’t really understand the world of video games and technology. In “Dream Machine” by Will Wright explains to us that many people only view video game as a negative and don’t think beyond that point. “Most people on the far side of the generational divide-elder-look at games and see a list of ills (They’re violent, addictive, childish, worthless).” (Wright 211). I believe that there are a few flaws in playing video games. There are a few games out there that have crude acts of violence, language, and also display sexual material. There are labels on them to help parents know what their children are playing. However, not a lot of people know that there are also a positive side of playing video games. I do believe that video games have negative effects on young kids. Kids cannot focus on anything else while their heads are in a video game. If you have ever tried to talk to somebody who is playing a video game, they do not respond correctly, as if they were not playing a game. It is not bad to let a kid play for a few hours a night, or even a few hours a week depending on their ability to do anything else, but they should not play for hours every night of the week, while they are in school, still learning how to socially interact, or not being able to get the right amount of exercise on their own. I do believe there are many upsides to playing video games, such as entertainment, but there are also many downsides as well.
