New York City’s old slum neighbourhood, the Five Points, was notoriously known for its vice and crimes. The first organized crime group in New York City was the Forty Thieves which was led by Edward Coleman, started in 1825, in the back of a grocery store. The Dead Rabbits were an Irish gang in the Five Points area, and are most known for the riot they caused in 1857. The Eastman Gang were a Jewish group in the Five Points area, which began in the late nineteenth century, and were the rival of the Five Points Gang. The Five Points Gang was another group, started by Paul Kelly and included future famous mobsters. In Five Points, where most of New York City’s crime started, it also started some of history’s most notorious gangs, and mobsters.

The city of Camden, New Jersey has been known as one of the greatest Industrial Powerhouses, and was one of the biggest Industrialization in America. Camden created some of the nation 's largest warships and helped start up the railroad industry. (City of Camden; Industrialization) These are just a couple of the many things that made Camden one of the most thriving cities in the United States back in the day. But, all things must come to an end as the saying goes, Camden that once was a successful industrial thriving city is now one of the worst areas to live in America today. Camden is ranked second on the list in the United States as one of the worst cities to live in. Camden has a violent crime rate of 87.02% and you have 1 in 11 chances of being a victim. Camden has been plagued by so many problems it is now known for its violence, drugs a failing economy, and many more. So, where did Camden go wrong? Will it ever be the city it once was again?

The bedrooms have more obvious associations, as I am sure you can imagine. Sexual activity, intimacy, vulnerability, passion, security, safety, comfort, and feelings of connectedness and or closeness all correspond to what one thinks of a bedroom. Bedrooms are very personal rooms, and what is kept in them often reflects part of their character.

Harlem, New York in the Twenties was a place where colored people had migrated to show their talents. It was a time when African American Artist, Writers, Dancers, Musicians, and Doctors decided to show the world how spectacular they were. Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, and Langston Hughes were just a few famous names that arrived during this time. One sensational woman stood out among the rest, her name was Josephine Baker. She took a stand and fought for what she believed in, she was a strong and passionate women and she never let anyone get in the way of the things she loved to do. No matter how risqué or dangerous it may have been.

New Rochelle is a city in Westchester County, outside Of New York City. Housing an approximate 77,062 people, this city is home to a diverse population of residents. The majority of this community is currently 50% White; however, the community is well blended due to the presence of Hispanics/ Latinos making up more than 20% of New Rochelle. Blacks or African Americans makeup an approximate 15% within the population. The male population of New Rochelle consists of a total 36,980, whereas the female population stands at 40,082, taking majority. I was born in Bronx New York, and moved when I was just about to start Kindergarten. I had a lot of family who still lived in the Bronx so I would spend a tremendous amount of time visiting my cousins. I guess you could say I was basically raised in the Bronx. As a child growing into my teen years I would hangout in the school playgrounds to play Basketball with my cousins and who ever wanted to play ball. I was first introduced to the N word when I was around 10 years old. I heard it while I was playing with my cousins and a group of older kids were sitting at a table talking. The part that was odd is that some of those kids were black and white. As I grew up the N word followed me into Brewster NY where I resign currently. I had many

One of the houses was Deep South looking; run down and bare of any organized growth, i.e. landscaping. It was just a large rectangle— greatly in need of paint and repair. And, this house just happened to be near the heart of The Town of Smithtown, right in the cross roads of the historic area of the celebrated main street. But, in hindsight, perhaps this dwelling was a part of that history—a reminder of the history that had its good and bad; the well to do and the have nots, with some of the have nots, not having because the haves didn’t want them to.

A mural is more than just a painting on the wall. Murals bring together a sense of community and make the city a more welcoming place. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word mural means a painting or other work of art that is directly executed on to a wall. In many aspects, murals originated from graffiti, which comes from the Latin word graffio, meaning scratching or scribbling. Mural Arts programs are popping up in cities across the nation. However, I decided to focus on two cities that were closer to home for me. I focused my research on Newark and Asbury Park, New Jersey, in comparison to Philadelphia, PA. All of which, are cities that are not the nicest, but with the help of murals are becoming more welcoming places.

The Red Room is shown to be set in an old castle. The ‘Red Room’ is at a far end of the castle: “…along the passage for a bit… until you come to a door… through that is a spiral staircase… half way up… is a landing and another door covered with baize. Go through… and down the long corridor to the end… the red room is on your left up the steps." This shows the depth of which one has to venture into the castle to find the ‘Red Room’ likewise this sensation of isolation appears.

Soon after arriving to Richmond he met up with one of his friends, named George, who helped him move into his new apartment. The apartment had one bedroom that had a bathroom that was connected to both the bedroom and the hallway. It also had a kitchen that was connected to his living room. The apartment was located at the end of the apartment compilation on the second floor. The entrance to the apartment led into the living room which meant that the bedroom was located all the way in the back.

Jersey City, New Jersey is one of the largest cities within the state. With almost 250,000 people, the city is the seat of Hudson County, lying just south east of Manhattan. Jersey City is located on the Bergen Neck peninsula with the Hudson River and New York bay surrounding the east and west sides. The city is divided into six wards, with Historic Downtown, Bergen-Lafayette, and The Heights being its most populous parts.
