The organization which I attended to analyze their organization, based on the three levels of culture discussed in class was Moe’s Southwest Grill. Over the past couple of years, my friends from Bloomington-Normal have raved about how good Moe’s food is. I thought that this class assignment would be a good opportunity to take up one of my friend’s offer to go to Moe’s. Doing so allowed me to get some great food and to further look into the company’s culture. From walking in, to getting food, and eventually leaving, it was evident what the employees at Moe’s believe in and the culture within the organization. Specifically relating to artifacts, espoused and enacted values, and basic assumptions, Moe’s organizational culture was extremely apparent.
Communication is a fundamental relationship building skill in the workplace. If people don’t communicate well they limit their ability to connect on any meaningful level. The integrity of the nursing profession has been challenged as the goals of healthcare delivery have shifted to improving the bottom line, leaving one to question if nursing has lost sight of its foundation, caring. In her reflection of the Caring Conference, Lou Reida’s expressed, “… I have been challenged to reflect on how I, as a future leader, will be able to find a balance between nurturing the caring spirit of nurses and the business component of healthcare,” (Reida, BSN, 2009). Stakeholder buy-in is vital for successful project performance. Stakeholders can have minimal impact on the project or a large impact. Key stakeholders in the DNP project that may affect outcomes are physicians, bedside nurses, discharge and outcomes managers, hospital leadership, insurance companies and last but not least patients and their families. In this project, the stakeholders that have a key role will be the core hospital staff that consists of nurses, physicians and the discharge and outcomes managers. Leadership has already pledged support of processes that provide opportunities to improve patient care. Patients and families may affect the project with their willingness to participate in a new process and provide satisfaction feedback.
