The ability to provide evidenced based care requires the ability to read peer-reviewed primary research reports and initiate recommendations in the clinical area. Researchers noted past studies on nursing turnover and patient outcomes has been studied for positive consequence with the infusion of fresh ideas. Managing nursing turnover on units impacts the ability of safe patient care.

The literature review noted previous studies looked at direct relationships between turnover and patient mechanisms but did not look at underlying mechanisms. Workgroup studies have looked at relationships between staff turnover and cohesion.
The researchers identified several studies focusing on patient satisfaction as a predictor of quality care.
