Adult Nursing Personal Statement What inspired me to become a nurse and to undertake the Extended National Diploma Level 3: Health and Social Care course was my parent’s involvement in adult social care via their domiciliary home care business. Over the last few years I have helped with the office side of the business during school holidays and have been on a few supervised home visits. I found this very interesting as I loved talking to the clients and hearing about their memories. I have been told that I am a very caring person and I have the desire to help people and care for them during their time of need. I am also very reliable and this has been shown throughout my first year on the course with my 98% attendance. Throughout my academic progress on this course my favorite units so far have been Older People and Dementia Care for which I achieved Distinctions in these units. At University, I look forward to discovering more about nursing for older people. I have also completed the Care Certificate and have done quite a lot of training such as Moving and Handling, First Aid, Hand Hygiene and Fire Safety. I’ve also undertaken additional training for my care home job and I have several certificates for this. During my first year on the course I’ve made sure that I have met all the deadlines and that my work has been very organised. Being a cadet, I have been given the chance to
I cannot attribute my desire of becoming a nurse to following the footsteps of a family member, nor caring for a sick family member as I was growing up. I am a first generation high school student, furthermore, a college graduate. I became a mother at the very young age of sixteen. Being so young and growing up without the care of my parents, it was always said I, too, would end up in a rough situation and not be able to care for my child being so young myself. I continued out my days and nights being a high school teen mom. I graduated from high school in three years by attending night school while I was pregnant; allowing me to finish school sooner and obtain a better job that would allow me to take care of my son.
In the corner of the small hospital room stood a shy little girl. “You shouldn't be in here, honey”, my mother said as she nudged me out of the room where my grandfather lay dying. At the time, I couldn't understand the enormity of the situation. Ignorant to what was happening around me, my innocent mind fled with curiosity. The beeping of the machines and the soft quick steps of nurses captivated my attention. I was fascinated with this strange new world. This is the moment that sparked my desire to become someone great; a nurse.
The theory is explained on the idea that the increased comfort of a patient or their family, the more they are ready to accept and react to the treatment plan. The theory can also be applied to the nursing profession in the sense that
My goal is to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Trinity Washington University. After working in government and as a massage therapist, I realized that I have a calling in health care. In order to become a great nurse that provides optimal care, I need to be educated by the best institution. I am dedicated to putting in the time and effort to gain all of the knowledge Trinity Washington University can provide me, as I start my journey to the health care field.
I have had the distinct privilege and honor of practicing the art of nursing since 2000. Throughout this time, I have seen the profession evolve through technology, practice and theory. With the recent and constant change created by the healthcare reform, today’s nurse must realize that learning is a lifelong process that does not end upon graduation. The nurse is never done learning, especially as technology and medical knowledge are constantly evolving. My most recent endeavor has been the pursuit of my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Western Carolina University. This education has broadened my mind to the opportunities nursing has to offer and has enriched my personal and professional goals.
As nurses we all bring our own values and beliefs to the job whether or not we intend to, it happens. I place large amounts of value on family and friends. These are the people you can call on for support. I know that without the support of my mom helping me with my kids and my house work there is no way I could be in the nursing program. Family is often a place when as children we learn and develop our values and beliefs. Giving this deeper thought I can see how this is true for myself. When working with B I would often think about what it would be like to be raised in an unstable environment by a mother who struggles with mental health and addictions. B was often placed in respite foster homes. I found myself thinking about what it would be like to sit down to meal with a strange family how awkward would he have felt. Building on this making connections with people is very important to me. Once I was able to build a connection with B I was able to work with him in a more cohesive way. Making that convection helps to build trust, positive relationships are built on trust. Being a good listener is a skill that I value as a nurse. Not only do I value being a good listener but I also value being heard. I value you a person 's ability to do what they say they are going to do. If you tell a patient that you will return to check in with them in 30 minutes than you need to be sure that you keep your word. When working with clients it is import to me to build on
Why do you want to pursue a graduate degree in your chosen field of study and why do you want to pursue a graduate degree at Clemson University?
While I have identified numerous issues that need improving and changing, each day, I will have to start with small changes in order to lead to an overall permanent change for the future. For the duration of this clinical, I will plan out my days in an organized manner, as a way to complete tasks in an appropriate way. I will give all medications under the supervision of my clinical instructor to ensure safe, correct medication administration as well as additional teaching. I will attempt to find answers and critically think on my own and will ask questions when I am uncertain or not 100% confident about something. I will try my best to communicate with my nurses throughout the day about things going on with my patients and inquiries I have.
Do you think being a RN is more than just a job or career goal? To me being a nurse is a calling or a way to help other people! I love being able to help other people and make them smile while doing it. I want to become a nurse because I love helping others, I would really love to make a difference in people's lives, and I really want to make enough money to help my family.
My first career interest is to be a Nurse started at a very young age when I wanted to take care of my parents when they were ill. I would always tell my parents I will take good care of them as they get older. Let alone, I enjoyed helping and taking care of people. In my spare time I would volunteer at local nursing home to visit the elderly patients and interact with them. Visiting the patients in a nursing brings lots of joy and happiness to me. With that being said, life has taken me in a different career direction, however, I am finally able to pursuing my dream and goal of becoming nurse. As I continue to pursue my journey there are several areas of the health care occupation that will enlighten my knowledge about my career of choice, such as, the job description, education and certification, employment and professional activities.
Taking the first step even if you don’t see the path in front of you. Life is full of chances, and without chances there would be no opportunities. My whole life nursing has been my intuition. I want to be the first one in my family to exceed past the limit, and go to college. I have learned many different skills from my jobs over the years, which have made me such a dedicated and hard working woman. There are many different paths in nursing that interest me, but what stands out the most to me is labor and delivery. I cannot help but try my hardest in everything that I do, but I will not let down anyone while pursuing what I’ve always wanted to do.
Nursing as a career is the most rewarding profession that ever exist. Adult nursing appeals to me because it gives me a real opportunity to make a positive differences to people’s life as this contributes in playing a vital role to helping solve the world’s health problems. From ongoing generations, nurses are faced with added challenges of finding new ways to improve their demanding environment and put a smile on the faces of many whilst continuing to make the world a better place despite the pressure they encounter. It is this challenge that appeals to me the most because my passion, commitment, selflessness and tirelessness to improve the life of others I believe will motivate me to make positive contributions to the success which the world will see over the coming years. From my early childhood I had the habit of caring my grandparents especially when they felt down
Trough research that I conducted for a term paper I wrote for the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where I will graduate this coming December with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, I found a philosophy, oddly grammatical, that has resonated with me since. The author stated the purpose of education is to do one thing, that one thing being to give the human one small letter, the letter ‘e’ to make the human, humane. This simple, yet philosophical idea has stuck with me ever since my research led me to its page, and even today it remains strong and true with me as I move along my nursing career path.
My desires to take a course in adult nursing was first established after completing a qualification in health and social care and gaining successful employment as a mental health and learning disabilities key worker. During my time I gained many skills that enabled me to have a better insight of the complexity of what a nursing career will entail. I learned to effectively work with in a team of other professional under a great deal of pressure to ensure the needs of my service users were meet. This role was based out in the community and in various hostel around London working 12 hour shifts around the clock. I dealt with a number of challenging adults whos health were impacted by different disabilities and mental health issues.
I’ve been interested in the field of nursing since I was a young child. It’s rewarding for both the nurse (they are doing something good to help another person) and the patient (their problems are being solved).
