HealthCare has always been a major issue not only in the United States of America but in the State of Texas. Many politicians argue over what is known today as Obama Care. This essentially is known as the Affordable Care Act. This act requires most Americans to have some type of health insurance in turn raising others health insurance to pay for those who can’t. Politicians can go back and forth on this issue but I believe that there are many pros but also many cons to Obama Care. Is this what is best for the country? Obama Care was passed on March 23rd, 2010; essentially saying that every American was required to have some type of health insurance. This was huge for those Americans who had been previously ill or diagnosed, now if they had cancer they would be allowed the coverage that they needed to pay for the medical bills. Also another huge pro was that screenings were covered. The hope was that you’re proactive in your healthcare, and so you could avoid or delay major health problems to come in the future. Healthier people lead to lower costs for health insurance companies. This benefits the State of Texas because now if they catch the issues early on they could treat it then catching the issue later and having to pay much more money and time. Also there were no time limits on the health care that a person received. Before Obama Care people who had severe health problems would run out of health insurance coverage. Insurance companies would set limits on the amount of money that they would spend on an individual customer. Now with Obama Care insurance companies can no longer do this, they must provide for their customers continuously. Of course a medication cost was a huge struggle on many people with health issues. But now there were lower prescription drug costs. When the Affordable Care Act was passed it promised that prescription drugs would be more affordable to the customers who needed them. Several new taxes were created in order to pay for the ACA. Also additional taxes were created for people with higher incomes, seeing as they had plenty of money they wouldn’t mind sharing some of the wealth with the rest of the country. But of course they did mind, they didn’t see how this could possibly be fair that they had to give up a larger percentage of their income in order to pay for others health insurance. Another major con for requiring American citizens to have health-insurance is that businesses are cutting employee hours in order to avoid having to pay for employees health-insurance. Of course businesses aren’t going to want to pay for all of their employee’s health-insurance, to avoid this they cut hours. This isn’t helping those people who have those jobs. They need to be able to work full-time and need to be able to have health coverage. This is a major con and doesn’t benefit those at all who don’t have full-time
