I waited in the flickering fluorescent light of the small Saint Paul bus station while the indifferent ticketing agent looked over my ID then processed my reservation on the computer. “How many bags?” she asked tersely. “Just two. Wait, three, but one’s a carry-on bag,” I answered. “There’s an extra fee for the second checked bag,” she stated. “Um, does it matter if I’m in the military?” I asked. She simply stared at me from over her thick-rimmed glasses and said nothing. “Okay, how much?” I asked. While I waited for the bus to arrive, I quietly counted my remaining money in my wallet: One hundred and twenty dollars. I searched the upper level for any electrical outlet. I finally found one on a support column then I laid my bags down, plugged in my phone and called for that sweet voice I’d been longing to hear. After a few rings she answered, “Where are you?” “I’m here,” I said, “Where’re you at?” She told me to go around to a waiting area. As I rounded the corner, I looked hard expecting to see the Tera I remembered. I saw instead a nondescript girl in a black hoodie, dark pants and black work boots as she sat among disheveled travelers while she beamed upon sight of me. She smiled when she gazed at me. Her eyes pierced mine and instantly I knew it was her. She stood from her bench when I was a few feet away, I dropped my bags and we embraced for a very long moment. When we released ourselves hug she quickly directed me through the bustling maze of people in this place. Out the front door we went. The world became a blaze of darkness contrasted by blinding bright mile-high neon signs. Cars sped by with horns honking. She and I reveled in the glistening radiance on the vast sidewalk. The chaos, the noise overtook me. I held her in my arms and kissed her deeply in that bright neon
