I would like to attend Oral Roberts University (ORU) because of its Spirit-empowered learning atmosphere, accreditation, and staff. ORU placed emphasis on developing one’s spiritually, intellectually, physically, and emotionally. In fact, I have personally experienced years of growth at ORU despite my physical impairment. I firmly believe studying at ORU will equip me with solid biblical exegesis and theological reflection in relation to my area of study in Marital and Family Therapy. Thus, enabling me to become Holy Spirit-empowered and professionally competent counselor with the proper licensure to bring God’s healing to families.
I grew up as Catholic in a Christian home. My mother always ensured we memorize Bible verses and pray continuously. She taught us how to trust in God for all our needs. At age 31, I was diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis. I felt as if all my dreams and visions were shattered. My faith was shaken and my hope in furthering my education to obtain better employment was deferred. My first surgery was unsuccessful. The second surgery was successful after overcoming several complications. During this difficult time, my faith in God was strengthened as He is the only one who could help me. He blessed me to complete my Bachelor Degree in Business while enduring suffering and hardships. Later, I completed my Master's Degree in Ministry in spite the interruptions with my health. Another major event in my life was ORU acceptance in the Doctor’s of Ministry Program. Here, I have learned how to biblical exegesis and correct theological reflection. Thus, enabling me to teach others how to study the Bible, grow in their faith, build their relationship with Christ and others, and how to live a victorious life in
