1: Company Overview
BlueScope Steel Limited is a multinational company operating in different countries in Asia, Australia, USA and New Zealand. The company designs and manufactures wide varieties of products such as coated steel, slabs, plate, cold rolled coil, aluminum, zinc, galvanized and pre-painted steel. In the United States, BlueScope Steel establishes a 50-50 joint venture with a North Star Steel, and both companies use the latest technology to produce over 2 million hot rolled coils annually. The joint ventures that both companies implement are very productive because the company ranks fifth in the production of hot rolled coil in North America. In Australia, BlueScope has developed strong competitive advantages in the production of Colorbond and Zincalume steel products. With a joint venture with Nippon Steel Corporation, the company has been able to develop a next generation steel product for its customer. (BlueScope Steel Annual Report 2011).

In addition, since 1996, the company has been honored with the TTX SECO highest quality award consistently.
There are many competitive forces that are affecting Nucor Corporation. Some of the primary ones are the market size, number of rivals, and pace of technological change.
The Reynolds 853 is a steel alloy created by Reynolds Cycle Technology, a manufacturing company based in Birmingham, England. It is composed of several elements solely including iron, carbon, chrome and molybdenum but also includes silicon, copper and manganese.
Every year there is 1.3 billion tons of steel produced around the world. Steel is made in different sizes and categorized by how good the steel is, these is called grades and standards. Steel today is used in many things you wouldn’t even think of such as the armored vests policemen wear or jewelry. Stainless steel was invented in 1913 by Harry Brearley when he put 12.8% chromium and .24% carbon when the standard for steel was .12 - 2% carbon and 16 - 26% chromium. Stainless steel is used in almost all new home appliances and in Great Britain it was used for cars. Some buildings made with steel are the Chrysler building, the Empire State Building, and the Sears Tower. Another building made with tons of steel is the Burj Khalifa. There is certainly a market for this product. It is the market that is currently dominated by asbestos pad and micarta slab users, and is comprised of uneducated (about cushion pads) and price-sensitive customers. Prior to CMI’s involvement, “the pile-driving industry had paid very little attention to cushion pads.” There was no dominant manufacturer, little-to-no branding, and ambiguous distribution channels.
Nucor Steel is one of the major steel producers in the world and a market leader in America that is facing a threat of competitive pressures from potential international players.
Thanks to a lucky series of events, Atomic Company has enjoyed a sharp increase in sales of their Tiger Pants line. The most obvious and immediate pains being felt by management is the inability to predict future sales and the high amount being paid out in sales commissions. While these are legitimate concerns, I believe deeper problems exist.

Unfortunately, we struggled with not expressing our opinions in the decision-making process. Therefore, the group could not meet the Investor Expectation Score (I.E.) 78, which the team ended with 62. In addition to this, B Company is not the best performing firm in the industry because we did not receive a score of 100 in all five measures (ROE, ESP, image rating, stock price, and an A+ credit rating).
In a market with a vast amount of competitors offering similar products, it is vital that competitors stay at the front of the market. In order to do this, companies, such as Blue Nile, must increase globalization efforts. As the market shifts worldwide, so must companies. Blue Nile, for example, has recently seen success in the worldwide market, although international profits only make up 13% of revenue. Also, companies must offer reliable customer service, such as Blue Nile offers. Along with reliable customer service, online competitors must focus on reliable shipping, lowering costs when applicable. Finally, marketing efforts must be vamped to ramp up customer traffic and build larger customer bases.
