Peanut Butter is a paste-like substance made from peanuts and is primarily consumed in the human diet. Americans consume on average over 1.5 billion pounds of peanut butter and peanut products each year. (National Peanut Board. web) Peanuts are the main ingredient in peanut butter. Other ingredients include oil to give it a smooth, creamy texture; sugar, honey, or molasses adds the sweetness to peanut butter. It has been around for hundreds of years and dates back to the Aztecs and the Incas. The first US patent for peanut butter was issued in 1884 to a Canadian, Marcellus Gilmore Edson of Montreal, Quebec. (Erdos.web) As delicious and tasteful as peanut butter is, it also has remarkable weight loss and health benefits as well as other non-food uses in everyday life. Eating peanut butter to lose weight has become popular and successful for some people. Healthy peanut butter snacks create a more fullness satisfied feeling for several hours, therefore reducing the temptation and “want to eat” feeling between meals.
