According to Random (Stochastic) Variability, there are two measures of variability which impact capacity and utilization, arrival and service times. In the case of the Pediatric Clinic, variability in arrival and service times are present. The front desk which includes both the registration desk and verification of documents tries to reduce variability through the use of scheduled appointments. However, there is variability in the service times for both these activities since it handles diverse types of patients, new and follow up. With each patient type requiring separate distinct steps to register and verify the patient, it introduces variability in the service times thus impacting capacity. The variability could be controlled or minimized

Establishment of reduce wait times as a culture in the hospital involves implementation of staffing policies among others that would reduce the wait time. Automated systems can be used to reduce time spent in the registration process. The disadvantage of this strategy is that it is costly and requires high initial capital to implement. Incorporation of preferences of the patients requires the health administrators to determine the issues that affect the patients hence increased waiting time. A system can be established to enable the cardiac care patients make appointments when faced with issues that are less critical in order to reduce wait time. However, this strategy will require the community hospital to incur additional costs during the registration process. Revamping the process of front-line scheduling enables the personnel of the community hospital to adhere to demand and supply when scheduling treatment procedures which are not life threatening. This will reduce the number of emergency cases. The negative force of this strategy is that it will make most patients to prefer hospitals which do not revamp its front-line schedules (Sullivan,
Many urgent care facilities are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so if your child is injured or gets sick on a weekend, you don't have to wait until your doctor's office is open to have them treated. You can take them to the facility and have their illness diagnosed or injury accessed right away. The quicker that your child can be seen will help them feel better sooner and recover

Moreover, the office visit length will be shortened due to the high demand of customers making it harder to provide good quality of care to patients as well . On the other hand, from the physician point of view it is predictable that doctors will change practice patterns from private offices to hospital services because the facilities pay salaries with less expectations in the number of patients seen per day. Furthermore, due to the elevated number of patients, time left for clinical documentation and record keeping will be nulle.

I would like to expand on my current position as a coordinator of the Four County SART (sexual assault response team) program. This is a brand-new program located in North West (NW) Ohio. Right now, we can only do acute exams with evidence collection for pediatric sexual assault, that is within 72 hours’ range. I would like to be able to provide non-acute exams for the pediatric population at our clinic.
The current average utilization rate of the call centre is 30.48% (see appendix XXX). The average arrival rate, rate at which the patients call, is lower than the average service rate, rate at which the patients are serviced. However, both the arrival time and the service time contain moderate variability (see appendix XXX), negatively impacting the flow time during peak hours. There are two arrival rate variability issues: variability amongst the different days the calls are received and variability amongst the hours the calls are received. The problem is bigger than Laura anticipated. As per the ‘Appendix 5’ of the case, the average daily abandoned calls are 338 and not 35. This does not include the patients receiving a busy signal, therefore becoming lost throughputs. Thus given the low utilization rate it is clear that the problem the call centre faces is in managing variability and not capacity.
Public health nurses at Toddler Clinics referred mothers (n = 10) with full EPDS scores between 10–19. Of the total number of mothers referred (N = 384) to the research nurse for secondary screening, 242 were ineligible due to low (19).
The SickKids Hospital is mainly aimed at maintaining a suitable and financial status. The graphs provided above provide a suitable outlook of the hospital’s main source of revenue, available assets, and the specific areas as well as percentage of funds invested in children’s health. The main sources of revenue as presented in the pie chart include events, corporate partnerships, direct marketing, individual giving, net lottery, and parking fees. With the funds collected, a great percentage of the investment is directed towards child care, research, education, national and international relations. Through profitability generated from the performance, SickKids Hospital invests the remaining section of its funds to asset acquisition.
In order to eliminate the inefficiencies witnessed in many public and private hospitals that serve a number of patients, an integrated approach to handling the daily workload is necessary. There is need for all departments within the hospital to work closely together in ensuring more effective and efficient service deliveries. I'm applying to the Doctor of Nursing Practice program with a specialty in pediatric acute care at the University of South Alabama. I am pursuing a doctoral degree in advanced nursing practice as it will help me attain the needed knowledge for a higher level of nursing care. This enhanced knowledge will strengthen my leadership skills and practice to improve patient outcomes in response to rapidly changing care delivery and health care needs. My decision to specialize in the acute care track for pediatrics stems from my passion in working with children and my experience in working in a pediatric emergency room.
