“Perfect Notion of a Society” What is a perfect definition of a society? How are we to achieve a perfect society? A society is a community of people co-existing together with each person compelled to conform to our own different roles. In a fast paced, media-influenced, technologically advanced era, is it even possible to achieve a perfect society? A perfect society would probably be a fantasy or a mere notion, perhaps it would be more pragmatic to aim for a well-balanced and a just society. Maybe we can never achieve a perfect society, because we, people, who make up the society as a whole, are undeniably faulty. As the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Garriguemasaryk lucidly admonished, “Democracy has its faults, because people have their faults. Like owner, like store.” This saying applies for a society as well. Not only because of the fact that democracy plays a big part in a society, but because a society can’t be perfect as a whole if the group of people making it up is also not perfect. A rule of law should govern people and pave a clear path for us to follow. According to an old English philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, this world be in complete chaos and unorganized without a rule of law. Without a law system, there would be no system to follow and everyone would just be doing whatever they feel without considering the consequences that it could bring. We could only hope that this law system would be used fairly where no man is above law and that no one escapes it just because they are more powerful or have higher authority.
