Dear Person Who Picks What Classes to Offer, There’s a problem at Northwest Guilford High and it comes from the lack of a “common sense” class. The solution to all these problems is quite simple and it just involves bringing that class to the students that need it so dearly. You see, it seems like the majority of people know what they’re doing. It’s the minority that just doesn’t seem to understand. That’s usually the way things are but when it comes to common sense it really shouldn’t be that way. One of the foremost things this class would have to offer is to teach the etiquette that one should have in the hallways of the prestigious school. The halls are not a place that allows you to get from class to class. No. The halls are a …show more content…
There is absolutely no context that can be given that says it is okay do something like that. There are set rules that should not be broken. If you can’t wait for the line that forms behind the left door and are tempted to use the empty right door then maybe, just maybe, this highly prestigious school isn’t for you. Perhaps, you and your lack of patience are what is wrong with the school.
Satirical tirade aside, schools need to offer classes that teachers want to teach. One of the main reasons why CNA’s and other high-stress employees “crack” and turn towards violence is that they are no longer satisfied with this job. Although being a teacher isn’t the same, both professions have to care for needy individuals that either don’t seem to understand or aren’t capable of understanding so the metaphor seems ever so slightly fitting. The main point being that passion flows. Having courses that teachers are excited to take and want to teach and inspire others is the hallmark of a good education. There is a reason college only hire teachers that are passionate in their subjects and are passionate about why they teach: this leads to a higher quality education. From a student’s point of view, one of the most inspiring and awe-filling experiences you can have is sparking a teacher’s passion. It’s the ability to ask a simple question and to have that spark into a discussion about their
“Your county has some of the worst literacy rates in the state. According to your test scores, most of you can barely even read or write. I will be honest with you; I think that the current curriculum breeds stupidity and is only appropriate for people who aspire to complete mediocrity. I may only last one year, but I am, from this point forth, deciding not to follow the curriculum. You can leave your books under your desk, because you will not be needing them. In this class, we will dwell on our ability to think and
One of the most crucial parts of education is qualified and enthusiastic teachers who are willing to dedicate their time. Would Aristotle have revolutionized philosophy if he was not taught by Plato? And would Plato have done the same if he was not a student of Socrates? Educators who are hired in the Appoquinimink School District appear to be hired simply because of their qualifications, not because they are passionate about teaching. Specifically, a teacher last week refused to teach the required material and called me “cranky”, and the week before that an Advanced Placement Language and Composition teacher said to me “maybe if you participated in class more, people would like you better.” Although both teachers have a Master’s degree, they clearly act unprofessional which ultimately affects my learning experience. Emerson describes the modern educational system and compares it to how teachers should be, “Hence the instruction seems to require skillful tutors, of accurate and systematic
While growing up and observing my teachers at school, I have learned that it isn’t always an easy job. Teachers do everything they can to teach their students’ academic, social and other formative skills. Plenty of my teachers have to deal with complications, most of them being minor, but it isn’t always an easy job helping children, teens and young adults. As a student myself, I know they can be stubborn, unwilling to learn, aggressive, and irresponsible. Sometimes, they simply don’t care. However, that is a teacher's purpose: to help and shape their students to become better learners, so that they have a clearer understanding regarding a variety of subject matters. Someday, I actually want to become an elementary art teacher, which is
The part of the job of the analyst in identifying a business need that looks interesting and enjoyable to me would be engaging the stakeholders (organization management, sponsors/champions, and system users among other stakeholders) in identifying the various business requirements. This, in my view, is one of the crucial areas because it would allow me as an analyst to understanding the state of an existing system and determine how a new system would impact on the business performance of an organization. Without a clear picture of the business requirements, there is a high likelihood that a new system would not bring the anticipated results. I would use my interviewing skills to get the different perspectives of the stakeholders as an initial step in system development. It is clear to me that interviewing, as a method of gathering business requirements, is sometimes cumbersome and time consuming. However, I am of the view that with the right skills in conducting interviews, an analyst can be able to probe deeper on issues and challenges of an existing system and the specifications that a new system is expected to meet. I would achieve this through conducting individual interviews, joint interviews as well as forming focus groups.
These stereotypes of teachers inspire the general public by showing a “fairy-tale version” of what truly happens in the classroom. The movies make it look like there is always some huge triumph at the end of the day and everyone ends up learning what they need to learn. This does not always mean learning the classroom material. Breault states that in most of the movies studied the teachers are more focused on teaching life lessons as opposed to the basic knowledge that should be taught in the classroom. The article also discusses how the teaches are viewed as heroes who save the students and advocate for them outside of the classroom. The teachers in the movies are praised for never teaching with a textbook or teaching regular course curriculum. The pictures show that the real live classroom is a lot more structured than what is portrayed in
If teachers push their mind, the students will want to learn. Teachers shouldn’t let vocational students settle just because it looks like they won’t cross their limits. It took one teacher in class to find out that Mike Rose didn’t belong in a vocational class. It also took Rose a few vocational classes for him to drift his mind on education. I think if all teacher motivate their students to participate in class and not treat them differently they can become something more positive in the
The class room is a place where ideas are taught. The future of the United States can only stand on the backs of leaders. Leaders meaning students who have the right to read the great classics. The classics that teach you important life lessons. Such as love, bravery and respect. Without those life lessons people will turn soft.
The plan is to purchase new doors for all around the school that will require all the faculty members to obtain a key fob to enter. Also, certain doors will be ran on timers that will only open for 5 minutes between classes. Sprague said, “This is to stop a lot of student traffic from going in and out of the building.” Also, the ceilings have been lowered and all of the lights have been switched to LED, this is to decrease costs in lighting, heating, and cooling the building.
One of the main reasons that I feel so strongly about this specific topic is from the personal experience with the classes that have been cut or not offered by my school, Stephenson High School. Currently at Stephenson High School, they do not offer any foreign language classes, AP classes, or honor’s classes. Stephenson High School had previously offered more advanced classes such as Chemistry II, and Physics every year, now due to loss of funds and budget cuts Stephenson only offers base Chemistry every year and Physics every other year. Foreign language classes are among the other types of classes also not offered anymore at Stephenson High School. For example Stephenson had previously offered Spanish every year for the past decade, and this year it was just not offered,
After many years in the classroom and several as a facilitator, there were many situations that I have observed and or been a part of that did not make me happy I found myself saying what I would have said or done if I was the principal of the school. My heart began to break for those students that were in classes with teachers that did not seem to really care about whether or not the students actually got it but more so doing the bare minimum to say that the skill had been taught. I saw children struggle. I saw children and parents with hurt feelings and then angered by the way a teacher had treated or talked to them. I even saw some teachers that just did not care. I wanted that to change. For years I put off going back to school. I got my Masters in Education right after I
In this article “Controlling the Work of Teachers” by Michael W. Apple. Apple believes, that teachers are doing more work because of the curriculum and that is not fair. The curriculum is designed by people who are paid and not educators. So, the creators of the curriculum has no idea of what it is like, to be a teacher. Making the designer of the curriculum be someone who has a true interest in education, would help improve the learning environment. Those being in control of the curriculum, that have no interest in education is a form of control, that many may not notice but, some view it as heading towards professionalism.
The building labeled B appears to be the main building for courses at Local Community College. Students walk in and out of the building all day and stop only to enter a classroom or buy food from the vending machines which fill one corner of the building’s long hallway. Often, students sit on the chairs that line the walls while waiting for a class to start, but for now the hallway is nearly empty and waiting for the ambush of students.
When analyzing the problem with college students and their lack of vocabulary there are noticeable problems with the attrition rate, percent in reduction, of teachers due to either retiring, stopping teaching, or transferring to other schools. When teachers stop teaching, it greatly impacts the students who lose the ability to be taught by experienced teachers. This impacts the education high school students receive. According to Alliance for Excellent Education, “…the single most important factor in determining student performance is the quality of his or her teachers” (Issue Brief 1). If the quality of the teacher is the most important factor in a students education shouldn’t states and school districts focus attention on helping new teachers stay teaching and become experienced rather than spending money to hire and re-train new teachers every year? Since experienced teachers are not teaching students the results are detrimental on high school graduates. “Only about 30 percent of high school students read proficiently, and more than a quarter read
In addition, insufficient funding of schools along with quality teachers that are retiring are some of the problems we encounter in the education system. In some parts of the United States, there is a lack of adequate access to materials for reading and writing due to budget constraints. In Allen D. Kanner’s article, “Today’s Class Brought to You By…” he mentioned that with the baby boomers retiring, and a high turnover among new teachers, who are asked to teach subjects they are not properly trained for, are causing difficult classroom situations (280). Similarly, Governor Jerry Brown’s statement last January 11 pointed out that K-12 education has ‘borne the brunt’ of the state’s budget cuts with more than $18 billion in cuts over the last three years. This resulted in larger class sizes, programs are cut, and over 30,000 educators laid off. These teachers are very valuable in our society because they provide our youth with the knowledge and social experiences that they will use to better their future and the future of the entire world. As a student, I have suffered the consequences of triple digit fee increases and the lack of available classes offered. The high cost of education has put the burden not only on the students, and many of their parents, but educators, as
I remember a few of these unkind souls and forever remember their manner and the effect it had on me. I simply did not wish to be there in the presence of these teachers, so went out of my way to stay away. The harsh reality was that I failed to prosper in these classes. One has to ask if this is right and if the essence of education is being missed. Reality and national results speak for themselves. What are we producing in society today? We are in effect only producing human beings who are workers and not free thinkers. Human beings who do not question, reason and think for themselves. This is where education has lead humanity. Is this an aid to life or a long term obstacle that is too far gone to fix in the later stages.
