From a very young age, my family taught me to not take the freedoms I’m blessed with for granted. Two of my great grandfathers held combat roles in WWII, and through their experiences, that I learned through my grandparents, I can begin to understand the sacrifices that come from military service. I’ve learned service provides an unmatched sense of structure and responsibility, which can and should be applied to everyday life, after the military, as well. Men and women learn the necessary skills of leadership and humility, characteristics that are already important to me, and ones I hope to further strengthen. I’ve wanted to serve in the military for my entire life and although my parents were not in the military, they have strongly supported
Thought there have been movies and documentaries made about the events of World War II the story of the common man has been underrepresented. Movies like Pearl Harbor glamorize the hero and his epic love story. Untold are the graphic accounts and emotional stresses that were experienced by the common soldier.
During World War I, trench warfare was very common. It was a newer technique in battles as in wars prior to the Great World War, fighting was less invasive and men merely marched at each other from opposite ends of fields and fought until only one side remained standing or a white flag was hung high in surrender. In fact in older wars, the fighting was far less dangerous to the point where battles were often times viewed by locals who watched from side lines with really no threat of getting hurt. In World War I however, the fighting had upscaled to the most sadistic type the world had ever experienced. With the industrialist wave that had overcome us in the late 1800s into
August 6th, 1945. It was just an ordinary day. I woke up early this morning to help a friend move some things. Everything was well until I saw the light. I plunged myself between two large rocks, no questions asked. When I was able to get a glackr of what has happened I saw nothing but destroyed homes and dust. I’ve never seen so much blood, it was unbearable. A lady and her injured boy came my way and I couldn't help but help them and take them to a shelter to get help. As I looked over the city, a thick black smoke filled the air. Then the thought hit me, what about my family? Immediately after I ran to search for my family. On the way to search for them I began to feel guilty. How could all these people be hurt, injured or even dead,
The Second World War was one of the most terrifying events in the world’s history. The U.S.A fights back like never before against Italy, Japan and Germany. Previously the WWII by the 1930’s America was completely poor and lost. By entering in the War, The U.S. becomes a superpower in just four years. The disruption of World War II arouses the mobilization of American industrial and in the military section. The preparation for the battle and the mobilization of the War was a complete success; purpose and determination led the U.S.A to win the WWII.
January 1917- This war has been going on now for almost three years now, between countries all around the world, but mainly Europe. It has been both devastating so far to the lives of many uninvolved individuals, and has used all the countries’ resources and destroyed land. America has not entered the war yet, but I can see it coming in the near future as our president Woodrow Wilson becomes more and more upset with innocent Americans being killed and no fight back.
This assignment will explore how the experience of soldiers differed from that of civilians in the First World War. Primary and Secondary source material alongside the course material will assess experience during the period 1914-1918 and it differed based on various factors. The assignment will be divided into five themes two on soldiers, two on civilian experience and one on shared experience. These themes are trench warfare and technology (soldiers), food crisis and occupation (civilians) and bereavement (both). The assignment will conclude by bringing together the sources to provide evidence to show that soldiers and civilians experience differed based on where they lived or served.
Hundreds of philosophers and historians possess the concern of how the modern world has come into being. Many issues, from The Great War to World War II have effects society today. This paper will trace the rise of totalitarianism in Italy as well as other European countries between 1918 and 1939, and the contrast to political developments in Great Britain, France, and the United States. In this paper the subject to explain is the Holocaust in the context of World War II and Western ideals, including the roots of anti-Semitism and intolerance of those considered inferior in Germany, a comparison of anti-Semitic actions in
Throughout the span of American history, there have been many culturally significant eras. Following the atrocity of World War II, Americas economy began improving rapidly. A new decade represents another period of triumphs and tragedies, that are inevitably apart of an cultures history. The excess of new products created lead to a significant change in americans perceptions. New technology becoming available for public consumption helped improve the quality of families lives. From the approval of the hydrogen bomb production, to the commercialization of Disneyland, the 1950’s remains as one of the most culturally significant decades in American history.
Since its end, World War II has been talked about extensively by historians. The lead up to the war, the war itself, and the events after the war have contributed to why the war has been so popular among historians. The unique way the war was fought and the way the war altered the course of history has intrigued historians. Up until World War II, civilians had generally been off limits in war. While you could cause as much carnage as you wished on the battlefield against soldiers, killing civilians on purpose was generally discouraged. Civilians would die in wars prior to this, but it was mostly because of disease or famine, not because of weapons or purposeful actions. World War II did not follow this principal, and this war was fought with a blatant disregard for human life, which was something not seen much before. This war has captivated because of the way it changed history. For example, The Holocaust greatly influenced leaders around the world to agreeing with the Zionist idea, and making a Jewish state. The Allies winning sparked the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union. These events have greatly influenced how the world looks today, and without World War II, we cannot say that these things would occur. With this being said, many Americans believe that the deadliest fighting occurred in the Pacific and in Western Europe. While fighting was vicious in these theaters, the deadliest fighting occurred on the Eastern Front.
In the early days of the First World War, the United States was desperate to stay out of the European war and institute a neutrality policy. However, the two sides fought for U.S. support, often even at a danger to the U.S. The passive stand that America took in involvement in World War I only prolonged the inevitable and came at a price to the U.S.
Army tanks were first introduced during World War I (Bull, 2002). It was used to provide mobility and protection. Many of the tanks were equipped with machine guns. The tanks were also used in order to extract injured soldiers from the battle zone.
“The world must know what happened, and never forget.” (World War 2) General Eisenhower reflecting upon the world war II, and acknowledging it as a pertinent event in the history of the United States of America. War is war, it is not pretty or humane, but what it is, is a diplomatic way in which to settle disputes and aggressions between countries. By analyzing these wars of the past, the people of the country can learn many things, be it mistakes made by one side, strategy from someone else or battle field etiquette. And it is through this analysis that the human race is able to further itself to not repeat the mistakes made by their ancestors. There are many lessons to be learned from looking at the
Growing up in a military family is a tough way of life. My father is in the military, which has forced my family and me to move every two to three years. He has also deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, occasionally, for over a year. The media has highlighted the hardships and sacrifices of members of the military, which I do not want to diminish. What the media has not highlighted is the sacrifices that the family members undertake, either when the military member deploys or is faced with yet another move. All the tribulations and sacrifices notwithstanding, I have been able to parlay them into making me a stronger person.

I believe that the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team’s climate is toxic and only getting worse. There are occasions where Leaders did not work as a team, and there were times where Leaders used coercion, intimidation, and other unscrupulous tactics to garner compliance from Soldiers. I also found other types of tactics like hazing that break down the morale, and welfare of the Soldiers. After assessing the 4th ABCT I have discovered significant issues are impeding the 4th from carrying out its wartime mission. There are unbelievable leadership issues facing the 4th ABCT including, sexual harassment, toxic leadership and lack of resiliency training for family members and Soldiers, however, the most significant leadership challenge that the 4th
