Analysing results performed in the fitness test, my personal strengths are flexibility (sit and reach test) and muscular endurance (sit-up test) and my personal weaknesses are muscular strength (basketball throw) and cardiovascular endurance (beep test).
The “sit and reach test” assesses one’s flexibility. Flexibility is an important aspect of health as it is the ability of your joints and body parts being able to perform day-to-day activities such as walking, lifting etc. Flexibility decreases as you age, therefore, it is important to include flexibility exercises in your daily workout regimen. The long term effects of flexibility is an improved posture, reduction of the soreness of muscles and decrease the risk of injury.
The “sit up test” assesses one’s muscular endurance. Muscular endurance refers to “the ability of the muscles to repeatedly sustain contractions against resistance and also the number of repetitions of an exercise without stopping. The long term effects of muscular endurance can include helping the heart function properly, ensuring oxidised blood flow throughout the body, which protects one from heart attacks. In addition, muscular endurance exercises can significantly improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, therefore, reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The “beep test” assesses one’s cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory endurance. Cardiovascular Endurance refers to the strength of your heart. The heart controls the oxygen and
Introduction: In this experiment, cardiovascular fitness is being determined by measuring how long it takes for the test subjects' to return to their resting heart rate. Cardiovascular fitness is the ability to "transport and use oxygen while exercising" (Dale 2015). Cardiovascular fitness utilizes the "heart, lungs, muscles, and blood working together" while exercising (Dale 2015). It is also how well your body can last during moderate to high intensity cardio for long periods of time (Waehner 2016). The hypothesis is that people who exercise for three or more days will return to their resting heart rate much faster than people who only exercise for less than three days.
After completing the strength finder 2.0 assessment, the five strengths that were identified were Focus, Achiever, Learner, Intellection and Discipline.
Muscular endurance is being able to work a muscle or muscle group for a long period of time at less than maximum effort, (Amezdrox, G. Dickens, S, Hosford, G. and Davis, D. 2012). Muscular endurance was tested by completing a sit up and push up test. My rating for the sit up test were super and for the push up test my rating was excellent, (see appendix 1). These tests were chosen instead of others because if you have a strong core whilst playing touch football, it is seen that you can perform better and this is what these tests work on, (Touch Football Australia, 2013).
The beep test is the subject received a score 13.5, this meant that the subject covered a distance of 2460 metres and ran for a period of 13 minutes and 2 seconds. Their starting heart rate was 110 and they reached a maximum of 197. Lastly their final rate of perceived exertion (RPE) was 9 meaning they found themselves working ‘really, really hard’ and at maximum intensity at the completion of the test. In this lab, the focus was to study muscular fitness. In muscular fitness, there are two main components of measurements that are being taken, which are muscular strength and muscular endurance. Muscular strength is an individual’s ability to exert their maximum force. To test muscular strength, there are multiple tests such as 1 RM , Static Handgrip Strength, and Back Strength Dynamometer test. Muscular endurance is an individual’s ability to sustain prolonged muscular contractions. Tests that reveal results about an individual’s muscular endurance would be tests such as YMCA Submaximal Bench Press, Push-Up, and Plank test. It is important to remember that there is no single test for endurance and strength that will tell an
Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
While I do no stretches other than neck stretches outside of school, when we are in P.E. we have to stretch every lesson, which can go a long way. So, despite not having any exercises specifically working on flexibility in the courses we did, we usually stretched in class anyway, which counted towards my improvement. My post-test result is still none-the-less below average, which displays the effort I fail to put in at
When I took my strengths test I was not necessarily shocked with what I received, more with what I did not receive. I thought for sure that I would have received positivity because people are always telling me how positive I am. Through learning about my strengths I have come to realize that all five of my strengths together may be the cause of my positive attitude, and all five of my strengths working together constantly are what people see. My strengths are restorative, communication, input, strategic, and achiever.
Power is the rate at which work is performed. It has a speed component to it, unlike strength. The explosive aspect of strength is referred to as maximal muscular power and is the functional application of both strength and speed of movement (Kenney, Wilmore, & Costill, 2015). The Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnt) has been proven to be a tool that is reliable for assessing muscular power, endurance and fatigue. A study was completed in order to determine the relationship between upper body strength and power and on the upper body anaerobicperformance. A bench press and bench press throw was used to determine upper body anaerobic performance and was measured during an arm ergometry WAnt (Lovell, Mason, Eagles, Shewring &Mclellan,2011).
My concerns of doing Muscular endurance is not doing enough or do so much that the next day I am in pain. I like doing sit-ups because I can work on my core. Push-ups help me tone my biceps. My goal is to increase the amount of sit-ups and push-ups I do during this class and continue this goal.
Flexibility can be defined as the capability of something to bend easily without breaking. The flexibility of a person is commonly measured during fitness tests, and the most frequently used test of a person’s flexibility is the sit-and-reach (Jackson and Baker, 1986). Though it is commonly accepted that the sit-and-reach produces an accurate and relative measure of a person’s flexibility, the validity of the test has been examined a number of times (Jackson and
The purpose of the experiment was to investigate exercises potential effects on cardiopulmonary functions and to determine if differences in gender play a key role in these functions (Cardiopulmonary System 2017). The hypothesis and null hypothesis was used to determine the outcomes of the experiment:
My current strengths include; my honesty and passion towards my work. I have always been positive and confident regarding my aims and targets. Along with these, I am a good decision maker, due to which I can make right and quick decisions. Moreover, I have ability to motivate others and do team work. I am also a responsible person, when I make a target; I work day and night to achieve my goal.
A VO2max test involves a graded exercise test on a treadmill/bike. Beep test which is a series of stages.
The fundamental purpose of fitness testing is an evaluation of an individual’s baseline physical fitness capabilities through a series of testing done for each health and fitness related components of an athlete, fitness testing is the starting point for the designing of fitness program for their specific sport to have desired goals to monitor their improvement and to identify the strength and weaknesses. Physical testing is having many benefits for athletes as it gives an inside of their individualistic abilities for their specific sport. Many of the benefits of fitness testing include;
