Persuasion: to convince my father to stop smoking
I battled with my father to stop smoking ever since I knew smoking was harmful. Sometimes, I just wanted to set fire to all his cigarettes, especially when he coughed in pain. Moreover, after a sweet morning hug, I had to endure the nauseating smell of cigarette smoke lingering on my clothes the whole day.
Every possible way to discourage my father from smoking had been carried out: I hid every cigarette found in home, complained about the remaining odor, and even pretended to be affected by secondhand smoke, coughing sharply. However, nothing turned out to be helpful. As a businessman, my father was specialized in distinguishing whether we were acting faking or not. To make matters

He was not astonished when I covered his eyes with my hands from his back. Maybe he was waiting whole day for this gift giving moment, because of I told him that there would be something special. Rather than gave him a little gadget like before, I showed him my bulky planner, on which written detailed plans for near future. My father laughed and then looked through it carefully, like he was actually reading my life. His respects were always the reason that I would like to share thought with him. He remarked and discussed with me once a while. Then I felt he stopped leafing through. Yes, he saw the page for him, where listed what will I do for him as I grows.
I told him that I understand all he did is just for providing us a more stable place to live. But it’s not wise to overweigh the importance of work. It’s apparently that we can gain the fortune again but not the health. As a grown-up, I will take his responsibility one day. He doesn’t have to sacrifice his health for our welfare. Besides, whom will I pay back my love to when I finally rail my life in the upcoming future? Instead of escaping the topic like before, my father just sighed and said nothing this time. I didn’t push him to make any oral promise knowing he didn’t feel well after lose of his acquaintance.
In the case of the high difficulties of giving up tobacco, I recommended my father to do this process slowly. Besides, it’s unrealistic to let him refuse every cigarette offered, especially from his
This essay will consider how each of the 5 psychological perspectives explain smoking. I will cover the psychodynamic, the behaviouristic, the biological, the cognitive and the humanistic approach.
One of my first memories in the United States was taking a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) class. I was in sixth grade and a top student, as talking about drugs and alcohol and the way they affect us was fascinating to me. This is why, the following year, I volunteered to become a peer educator in Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U). For a couple of years, I gave presentations to young students which included facts, demonstrations, and games, to spread the knowledge that tobacco is harmful and that staying away from smoking prolongs life expectancy and increases the quality of life. It should come as no surprise, then, that I consider myself a big proponent of staying tobacco-free and encouraging others to quit smoking as a great way to promote health. I remember watching my mom and sister as they took part in their nightly ritual of smoking a few cigarettes to unwind. “Did you know that a main component of cigarettes is used as rocket fuel?” I would ask them, as I opened the window and they stared back at me blankly. “We know, we know” was the answer every time. I knew that convincing them to quit was no easy task, but I was committed. Day after day, I proudly stated a new fact about the evils of smoking. Finally one day, they quit. At first, they attributed it to the cost. Since we had just immigrated to the United States, the cost of cigarettes was simply not something they could afford. I didn’t believe it. I proudly
John has not had any major illness until later in life when being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the age of 62, and suffering skin cancer on the face and ear. Neuropathy also has plagued John he is not able to walk his usual two miles daily. John started smoking at a young age and continued for years, smoking three packs a day in his prime. He quit smoking off and on for several years, he is happy to say the last cigarette to touch his lips has been 16 years. When asking him what made him quit for the final time oddly enough it was not for health reasons. When businesses would not let patrons smoke in their establishments he said, “To hell with you, I will show you whose boss!” therefore, he quit. John’s father died when he was nine months old from a brain tumor, his mother at the ripe old age of 87, from complications due to diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
Growing up, I can remember my mother’s ongoing disappointment and frustration with my grandmother’s smoking addiction. She continuously begged her mother to quit smoking, but unfortunately, her words never had much of an impact other than my grandmother trying not to smoke around her or moving outside the house to smoke. With my grandmother aging, her smoking has not decreased and with other compounding health issues, my mom is not just frustrated but also extremely saddened by the state of my
I did not meet with Pt. , I was paged by Lisa Micciulla, front desk in the emergency room to please come to the ED concerning an "urgent" situation regarding this Pt. When I arrived in the ED registration area an MGH Security personnel stopped me to talk with Pt's daughter, Charlene McDonald. Pt's daughter explained she was not being allowed to see her father, who she understands was brought to MGH for surgery after a fall. Explained to Ms. McDonald, I was aware of Pt having a gaurdian, and that there was a court ordered visitation schedule between Ms. McDonald and Pt. She reported this was an extreme situation and she showed me text messages she had sent to Pt's guardian, Attorney Tine Hajjar. I advised I could not allow Ms. McDonald access to Pt. Based on the order from probate court. Ms. McDonald has visits with Pt on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday 11:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m.
Breaking the addiction to smoking is never an easy task. There are so many excuses for not quitting while conversely there are just as many justifications to quit. However, whereas some may quit successfully boasting of awe-inspiring feats of willpower others may find that they remain stuck in a continual fluctuation struggling to break the addiction with a self imposed evil that seems almost inescapable.
Many drugs are used, misused, and abused in American society today. Some of these carry stigma in the general population, forcing users into an underground drug subculture. Others are accepted and almost promoted under certain circumstances. Tobacco is one of those drugs. Tobacco will be discussed in the context of cigarette smoking. This is not to undermine the existence or danger of other forms of tobacco, but instead to have an exhaustive discussion of cigarette smoking and its societal impact. Cigarettes are a means of inhaling tobacco, where it enters the lungs and is absorbed through the blood vessels, traveling to the heart, from which it is finally pumped to the brain (Hogan, Gabrielsen, Luna, and Grothaus 2003:76). Cigarettes are detrimental to society because they not only affect the user who chooses to smoke; they impact people around them through second-hand and residual smoke. The damage done by cigarettes is not impossible to address. Successful prevention measures are already in place, but this paper intends to suggest other more direct measures, especially related to statutory regulations.

From a social context, I have been fortunate to have non-smoking family members my entire life. Additionally, I have not been heavily exposed to second-hand smoke due to the bans and bylaws put in place in my province (Ontario). However, many older generation smokers did not learn about the dangers of smoking until much later. By then, these individuals were already addicted to smoking, making quitting all the more difficult.
I turned from the computer to my dad. He proceeded to give me the same speech that he had given me so many times in middle school. But this time, I wasn't phased at all. Instead of defending myself, I respectfully listened. When he was done talking, I told him that living comfortably didn’t matter to me and that I wanted to work in a field that I truly loved and enjoyed. He was stunned. Later that week, I was working on homework one evening when he knocked on my bedroom door.
I shadowed a Healthcare Assistant at a GP surgery in Wembley in his morning clinic learning how the amount of carbon monoxide measured in the body along with the number of times a person smoked a day determined the treatment they were given. Immediately I witnessed how the Healthcare Assistant took heart to one the patients who came into the clinic. His tone changed towards this patient as she was smoking at such a young age. Evidentially he knew that smoking was no choice of hers but due to the circumstances of coming from an Eastern European country.

Dear future self, We have came a long way together but let me re mind you don’t smoke don't do it. If you by any chance want to smoke or have any clueless thought in you brain that tells you to smoke. You don't know the numerous people that have died from it. The things in the letter may make you cringe from how disgusting it is to smoke. Remember when that guy on the news smoked but he was on a oxygen machine and it blew up. He was so addictive he risked his own life just because he could not handle the addiction. Now that’s just sad that’s just one of the reasons you shouldn't do it.
A. Have you ever gotten in trouble for doing something that you had no part in? Did you feel irritated when you had to suffer through the consequences? If so, then you are feeling the mutual hatred just like non smokers. Individuals who do not smoke are suffering from the actions of the people around them.
