If something’s broken, you fix it, but if it’s damaged beyond repair, then you get rid of it for something better. Then you brag to your friends that you got a new one. That’s what my grade thinks. Pride, collectively known as the worst sin. At least we do something during the productively, unlike the Sloth grade. On the last day of every year, we have a ceremony to determine which grade the newborns will be possibly transferred to. It takes place in the community building, a crumbling brick structure that was created before the war. Shocked that it still stands, the government deemed it safe enough for use. The interior has is covered in torn carpet, molding cement floors, and chipped paint, but that hasn’t stopped anyone yet from using
Being an athletes is one of the best-paid jobs on Earth. Being that they are paid so much the cost for the consumer is very high. The prices of tickets and sports memorabilia have been steadily rising over the years. The average ticket prices for the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all rose 5% to 10% this year, according to Jon Greenberg, executive editor of Team Marketing Report. (Mihoces).
Over 7,500 animals are killed in zoos because they are deemed surplus, as stated by Liz Tyson an animals rights activist. This giraffe in particular sparked a huge controversy. HIs name was Marius, he was homed at the Copenhagen Zoo and was 2 years old when the staff killed him with a bolt gun. Marius was then dissected and fed to lions in front of ongoing zoo goers. What got people fuming is that he was a healthy, young giraffe. Therefore I believe the killing of Marius should not be justified.
Homework has the greatest affect on our lives, even on our teachers and parents,as well as students. The purpose of homework is to connect the gap between children’s learning at school and at home. Most children abhor the purpose of homework.Others insist that assignments are a very important factor in the life of students and that it should be maintained.Homework has a positive impact on children and may help a child’s future life and career.
Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump, has been under fire in the aftermath of possible collusion. Kushner has gone under investigation after emails were leaked of a Russian meeting and is being interviewed to get information. The dishonesty of Kushner, has shaken the trust within the government and the incriminating evidence keeps surfacing as the interviews conclude. The news focused on the four meetings that occurred during the 2016 presidential campaign, and the main people that were involved in the meeting.
There is enough discrimination against us, and feeling alienated leads to recidivism. I served my sentence. I paid my debt to society. Why am I still doing time?" - Perry Hopkins, convicted felon and current community organizer for Communities United, talking about voting rights in Maryland.
When I was a single parent, there was nothing I liked more than going to the gym. Although not popular to announce, it was more for the crèche than for my burning desire to workout! Having time to re-focus, have a shower uninterrupted and chat to other adults made all the difference. We hear time and time again that us mums need to take care of ourselves, but it can be a hard task to add to the growing demands we place on ourselves. Research tells us that keeping physically active is great at helping to manage or minimise the likelihood of perinatal (while pregnant and after) depression and anxiety. Getting out of the house with the pram and going for a walk is one free option...but it can be too hot, too cold, raining, overcast, boring,
Constant controversy, immaturity at its finest, an American flag, a little blue birdy logo, a verified checkmark, more than 44 million followers, little elementary school arguments with Kim-Jong-un; the list goes on. If you are still unaware of what I am referring to, it is the twitter account of the current President of the United States (POTUS), Donald J. Trump. This man is one of the largest and most active gatekeepers in the realm of social media. Generally, one would assume information posted in a tweet from the POTUS would undoubtedly be accurate. How could that ever not be a reputable source? Why even bother to do some of your own research? Unfortunately, this is not the reality we live in; not everything presented to us through news, government or media is true and thus, everything you hear today requires a conduction of your own research prior to accepting anything as true. To be completely honest, if you did not know I was referring to the POTUS, you are probably in a much better position than his 44 million followers, as you have successfully managed to avoid one of the many gatekeepers/media outlets whose employed methods entail the plaguing that come with the concept post-truth politics. Though, you must keep in mind that is just one of the many outlets, as this concept is currently taking place all over the world. You, along with the rest of the population are essentially forcibly subjected to fake news every single day of your waking life whether you choose to believe it or not. On September 10, 2016, The Economist published an article titled “The Post Truth World: Yes, I’d lie to you.” The article claims the reality of the current political world; a reality The Economist suggests the general population is ignorant of. The article is severely opinionated and due to the multitude of reasons provided in support of their argument, many of which substantiated with an abundance of factual evidence, the authors were very convincing in their contention that post-truth politics are to be with us for many years to come unless changes are made immediately.
A quote by Willa Cather says, “The end is nothing; the road is all.” This quote is stating that it is not about the destination arrived at, but that it is about the journey to get there. I do agree with this quote. Instead of only waiting for the end, enjoy and cherish the events that lead up to it.
Gay discrimination is a major problem that affects individuals all across the country. The Defense of Marriage Act needs to be repealed. First, the Defense against Marriage Act will be explained and then why it needs to be repealed, then the effects the law has on society.
Is it really worth going to college, owing hundreds of dollars in order to get a degree in a profession to become successful and experienced in the real world? Today, as tuition costs increase students are questioning whether college is fit for them or not. For one, college can be really expensive, for example at the University of Minnesota for an undergraduate during the academic year of 2011-2012, the cost for one credit was $448.08 and $5,825 for a total of thirteen or more credits (“Undergraduate tuition”). A high school graduate that does not have a job may not necessarily have money so the only way to pay would be to take out loans and apply for financial aid. So is it not
Throughout my period of searching for arguments and discussions, I had come across a couple videos on YouTube that appealed to me the most. One video was about how a girl had pushed her so-called boyfriend to suicide. The people in that video had mentioned how the girl was wrong with her actions and how could a human ever push anyone to do that. Another argument was a video over an Anti-Rape activist who had posted an explicit video to stand up against rape. The people in that discussion argued how she was either doing right or wrong in her actions. Both of these arguments are the most appealing to me so I will focus on them for my analysis. The reason I had chosen these arguments is that I like how they both have people who bring their emotions into the discussion to argue for their side of what they believe is right in the situation.
Imagine being up all night doing homework after homework. Nobody wants to imagine that because not everyone likes doing homework at like 4 a.m. in the morning. Kids are supposed to get around 8-10 hours of sleep. Why would kids be doing your homework instead of sleeping and getting rest at night? This does not bother teens sleeping schedule at all. Teens are usually up at midnight talking to friends and playing on their phones. Middle School and most High Schools start at 8 a.m. but teenagers do not go to bed until 5 and they realize they have school then go to bed.Students are being forced to not have social time because of all the homework they have. Family life is impacted when students receive large amounts of homework to complete
In a world of many political, social and moral issues, I believe that people should back the president in his attempts to secure our border. Without protection of our borders we are open to terrorist attacks. I completely disagree with Henry David Thoreau’s motto that “that government is best which governs least”(Thoreau 369). If Trump was not allowed to try to keep our country safe by protecting our borders, our nation could easily be attack and leaving people to feel unsafe. While I believe that most muslims are not terrorist, I think that it is necessary to have travel bans for some countries in order to keep the American people safe.
“Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics,” announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. “What is your topic Cindy?” As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. “Waffles are better than pancakes.” I figured that a waffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. “Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!” I survived to live yet another day.
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.
