Have you ever laid in bed, tired, trying to lullaby yourself to sleep with the worries that are repetitively crossing your head? What about that ten-page essay you don’t even know how to start that’s due next week or that chemistry test you should be studying your butt off for, but you work 20-hour weeks because you need the money so you can pay for that monthly car bill and so on? Insomnia hits and now all you can think about is how tired you are going to be in class the next day and how you will hardly be able to function or retain any of the information; therefore, the only solution is to stay up all night relearning the lesson you spaced out on so you can be caught up and from then on, repeating the same damn cycle. Your friends ask if …show more content…
Whatever that may be, we don’t always have control over the situation. But, sometimes we forget that there is more to life than the overbearing number of hours we spend on school or work. We are too caught up in the stress of school that we are making ourselves mentally ill and forgetting the valuable time that we should cherish with folks (Holinka 301). I am not going to rant about how you should stay away from stress because we know that not all stress is controllable and there are psychological reasons to back it up. But then again, there are some situations of stress that can be controlled and we should do what we can to try to prevent stress due to the underlining health effects and the impact it has on our day to day lives. When I am talking about kinds of stress, I am specifically talking about the stress that is derived from school or work, making it hard to fit everything into our schedule. It makes you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything. This is stress that we can control if we want, so that we can enjoy the things that mean the most: spending time with family, creating new friendships, exploring cultures and different parts of the world, and discovering your inner self. We all know one thing though, we live in world of madness, where kids even think that their parents had it more easy than present time. Talk to a kid or a parent, and majority will agree with this
The article '' love: the right chemistry'' by Anastasia Toufexis efforts to explain the concept of love from a scientific aspect in which an amateur will understand. Briefly this essay explains and describe in a scientific way how people's stimulation of the body works when you're falling in love. The new scientific researches have given the answer through human physiology how genes behave when your feelings for example get swept away. The justification for this is explained by how the brain gets flooded by chemicals. The author expresses in one point that love isn't just a nonsense behavior nor a feeling that exhibits similar properties as of a narcotic drug. This is brought about by an organized chemical chain who controls different
Stress is a main aspect of the human condition, because everyone goes through a daily amount of stress, whether the problems come from school, family, even physical activities. The first time I felt a load of stress was earlier this year in fact, on a Thursday in September. I had many assignments due that day, and had a football game for band later as well. There was a reading check for “WHAP”, and the second I had seen the vocab and multiple choice questions my stomach started churning. There was sweat running down my face.... The notes I had took were horrendous, the thought of my French IP Practices the next period did not help either. Even though the day had finished and I did not have to stress over school anymore,
I completely agree with what Anna Quindlen wrote in this article. As I grew up my family spoiled me,
Picture this, students sit like sloths in a cold, dim lit room, tapping their pencil to the beat of their pulse struggling to stay awake. Daydreams fill their brains looking out the window wishing to be somewhere else, inattentive to the world around them. Eyes stare deadly into their papers hoping for the bell to ring and class to end. Grades plummet, self-esteem drops, and a continuous cycle with no end phases the new generation into depression and anxiety. Late night on their phones, studying through the night, watching their clock tick past midnight until the morning sun, only to wake up sleepless with a whole school day ahead of them filled with tests, quizzes, and learning. Many think of this as a part of growing up and life, but in reality, it is torturous. So, who wouldn’t love to wake up with barely any sleep and go to school? We can only imagine how ecstatic and lively our students would be to get up for school if they were able to get a sufficient amount of sleep every night.
Students who usually stay up late and get little sleep do not think of the consequences for the next day. Frequently, a majority of these students arrive at class only to fall the next day only to fall asleep after the professor starts the lecture. The poor behavior problem usually leads to low attendance rates and poor grades among sleep deprived students (Johnson). For first time freshmen, sleep deprivation has been known to cause a variety of issues that can lead to grave harm. Sleep deprivation can cause slow reaction time as well as headaches and nightmares more frequently. The mind will fall asleep if it cannot get enough sleep causing it to not function properly. Some side effects insomnia are feeling fatigue, depressed or a feeling of the body being completely drained (Haynes). One of these issues
Due to the fact that I was previously horrible at managing my time, I would often be stressed. Thanks to the speaker and faculty member who came into FYE to coach us through managing stress, I have found a technique to help me. If I allot myself time to relax, listen to music, and read material not associated with school, my stress dissipates. I think this skill set is something that I can utilize for the rest of my life. I am on track to being a speech pathologist, which will undoubtedly bear stress in some way, shape, or form. As long as I allow myself the time to relax and do what I enjoy, I know I will be
Deadlines, expectations, grades, the future— terrifying— believe me. What if I told you that not every moment of every day needs to be filled with stress. I believe that we can appreciate the time we are given and that each moment is precious and unique. Not one second will be the same as the last. Whether it is a smile, a conversation, or laughing until your sides hurt, time will always be moving, so why not try to spend it by enjoying yourself?
Cupid stepped into the mansion with a new suit from brooks brothers. He was a handsome young man who took pride in owning one of the biggest dating sites in the world known as Love Finder. However this mansion was not his but belonged to his famous mother, Aphrodite. Aphrodite had invited Cupid over to discuss a pressing matter. Cupid was met with an irritated look from his mother as he sat down at the table. Cupid asked why she had called him over and she replied saying
Often, students are tired during the day and while they’re in class. Being tired affects their learning as well as how they function. It not only affects that but it also can cause higher rates of obesity, depression, and motor vehicle accidents, as well as an overall lower quality of life. Getting enough sleep is important for students safety, health, and academic performance.
2. There are many factors that could lead to the cause of a person’s stress response. One includes any life events or change to a person. Any transition that causes you to change and adjust your life style can cause a great amount of stress, being that you cant go day to day like you may be use to. Whether it may be a positive or negative, it tends to be stress-producing. In my view i’m optimistic about this and try to see the bright side to things that may change my daily routine and think of it as it happened for the best.
Obtaining enough sleep plays an important role as a high school student, but what if obtaining the right amount of sleep is almost impossible? The inability to sleep is called insomnia, and that’s what I struggle with. Being a student with insomnia is difficult, but trying not to fall asleep is even more complicated. Not having the proper amount of sleep, my brain tends to not function. My brain becomes all mushy and it's hard to concentrate. Important information goes in one ear and out the other, but not intentionally. School work and prepwork seems to be forgotten and put aside, because I forget that I have work to do. Even though there are rare moments when I do sleep, I wake with a ghastly look on my face from a horrid nightmare. Then I
Sleep is the body’s chance to repair and rejuvenate itself, and, without it, students can suffer immensely and become more susceptible to mental illnesses. As humans grow older, it naturally becomes more difficult to wake up at earlier times. It has been widely agreed that each person should get between eight and ten hours of sleep, but, according to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation in 2006, more than 87 percent of teens get considerably less than the recommended amount of sleep (Richter). Students are staying out later to participate in extracurricular activities and to work on homework in the hopes that they will be able to attain a slot in the college of their choice. For students with earlier wake up times, this also means a more compressed time for sleep. During sleep, we go through cycles of deeper and lighter sleeper. Not only are students getting less sleep, they are also not given the opportunity to go through the sleep cycles as they should. Oftentimes they are being ripped out of bed at times which deprive them of some of the deepest, most productive sleep time (Richter). Coincidently, this deep sleep stage is also when dreaming occurs. In essence, students are not being given the opportunity to
Projects, important events, and homework are some possible causes of stress, especially with students. To avoid overall anxiety that this can cause, people should create schedules for themselves and stay on it regularly. Although procrastination can get the most people, it is better to deal with a situation bit by bit then all at once. Precise time management is the key to getting work done, the easing of stress, and extra time for leisure. Spending this leisure time with family can be the reason for a strong bond among family. This bond is the reason why many families are so supportive and understanding of each
Perhaps an underappreciated issue faced by many high school campuses is students sleeping in class, or in more appropriate terms, students not getting enough sleep. “Wake up!” solves the problem for many teachers, but this solution is dated and ineffective. While the students eyes may open, their brains remain functionally inert, and no matter how much a teacher tries to keep their attention, a half-asleep student will never learn as effectively as a fully awake and attentive student. This doesn’t seem like it should even be an issue, after all, the students with this problem just need to manage their sleep more responsibly. Less electronics, earlier bedtimes, and easier course selection all seem to present viable solutions and are often preached as the best ways to deal with the problem. Unfortunately, this is hardly the case.
Psychological stress is pressure placed on a person to adapt, cope, or adjust to a situation (Rathus, 2016, p.284). The result of prolonged stress can affect a person’s mood, pleasure experience, and have harmful effects on physical health (Rathus, 2016, p.284). Society in the twenty first century places high demands on people. Technology makes it very difficult to separate work life, school life, and home life. Today, society places a high value on a busy lifestyle for individuals. For example, many places of business are open twenty-four hours a day. In addition to societal pressures, attending a university adds to the stressors a person may experience. Going to school not only includes classroom time but it also includes homework,
