“The term “cyberbullying” was first used by educator Bill Belsey in 2004 in an essay detailing the emerging threat of harassment through the use of information and communication technologies” (Cyberbullying). Kids that are surrounded by the phenomenon that is the internet have a high chance of being a subject to cyberbullying. Some kids are relatively unaffected by cyberbullying, however, there are many documented cases in which these kids are treated so maliciously that they have considered suicide. Cases of cyberbullying do not receive any special attention unless the victim is suicidal. This is unacceptable as any measures that could have prevented this are not taken until it is too late. People do not realize the damage they can cause with only their words. Cyberbullying is a serious crime that should be regulated like one. Although these are not definitive ways to stop the problem, I am here to state options that will help future kids from further attacks. One way we could put an end to this is by making laws that penalize the offender. Starting a petition that will open the eyes of our lawmakers to put more thought and effort into what can affect our youth. In many cases, “internet service providers have long resisted being censors, while police are powerless to act until the abuse reaches the level of death threats or criminal harassment” (You have hate mail). At the moment, there are no national laws that prohibit the act of cyberbullying, but many states
Since 2002, Dr. Justin W. Patchin has surveyed over 20,000 middle and high school students in 12 different studies dealing with cyberbullying. The studies showed that around 27% of the students that were cyberbullied at some point in their lives. Cyberbullying has become a serious problem throughout the U.S and I believe that creating and enforcing new laws could diminish the amount of kids that are cyberbullied every day.
Many children in school bully others for various reasons. Bullying is when you are intimidated or victimized repeatedly over time with negative actions from a more powerful peer. It can lead victims to go through serious problems in early childhood and adulthood. In many cases, aggressors do not receive the punishment I believe they should. I believe if they passed stricter bullying laws, it will reduce bullying in many places.
Cyberbullying is a serious problem faced by students in an around the world. Bullying took on a whole new meaning with the widespread use of technologies to communicate, such as the Internet and cell phones. Bullying using the Internet and cellphones is called cyberbullying. The educator Bill Belsey first used the term “cyberbullying” in 2004. He described cyberbullying as a pervasive form of harassment by a group or individuals acting with hostility towards another person, aided by the internet’s invasive capabilities. Cyberbullying made negative impacts in the students live. Cyberbullying has become increasing prevalent in today’s society and school community. We all public is responsible for reducing cyberbullying.
Cyber-bullying has become just as big of a problem as bullying. Most people at some point in their life deal with some type of bullying or harassment, kids can be cruel and don’t always understand the severity of their actions. When I was growing up if someone had a bully at school it could make going there something they dread, but it always took place in the confines of the school grounds. The internet now enables bullying to occur at any time and in front of a potentially infinite audience, anyone with a laptop or a smartphone can be bullied. Cyberbullying is a major problem and we all need to continue to work towards prevention.
There should be more consequence to cyberbullying, because since it can be deleted it’s not really payed as much attention as it should be. I'm writing about this because this is an deep issue that's rarely discussed within my community. There is many cases that go into the dark and unsolved with cyberbullying. Which cause the victim to turn to depression or cutting themselves to feel pain or even worst suicide.”Cyberbullying or cyber harassment is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic forms of contact. Cyberbullying has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers.Harmful bullying behavior can include posting rumors about a person, threats, sexual remarks, disclose victims' personal information, or pejorative labels”.”Think Before Posting: It is important to note, what is posted online today, may come back and haunt the writer tomorrow or later in the future. That silly or funny photograph posted on a social networking site may preclude job acquisition for that person years later. Many colleges and
Nowadays the internet is a big part of our lives today, it has the consumed the entire world. Technology has advanced rapidly and it is the reason why our world is the very strong and stable world it is today. Specifically in our generation, it gives people a voice they never had. They can go online and be whoever they want and say whatever they want to say. Some schools feel that students have a little too much freedom online. They feel that this freedom should be limited. They feel it can cause problems for the school and other students. I feel that students should not be limited to what they have to say online because it does not affect most students and teachers, it’s not very disruptive, and free speech is a sacred right.
Before technology took over our society, bullying was limited to physical and verbal harm. Today, technology has allowed bullies to attack someone at any time and say as much as they wish. This allows for the victim to read and re-read his or her threats over and over again. When the threats become too harsh, the victim feels unsafe in public areas, such as school, and the victim misses out on schoolwork and activities. Although there are more serious problems that should be addressed at school, school officials should fight cyberbullying because dealing with cyberbullying issues will teach students to become better, stronger people in the future, the disturbing comments that are made online affect the students’ mental and emotional health, and when addressing this issue, both the bully and the victim could be helped.
In a survey done in 2016, Cyberbullying.org asked 5,700 students how many of them have been cyber bullied in their lifetime, 34 percent said that they had been bullied at some point in their lifetime. That is over 1900 kids who have been bullied at some point. 1900 kids have felt out of place for so many different reasons. Technology has advanced tremendously within the last 10 years. With the growth of technology along comes the growth of cyber bullying. As new social media platforms are being made, people are finding ways to others that they go to school with. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are feeding grounds for these bullies to verbally attack others. Together we need to find a way to limit the amount of bullying that goes on throughout the world, every bit of effort we put in might be able to help save someone’s life.
Cyberbullying. How often do we hear that word? Pretty often you would think considering how serious of an issue it is now a days. But no. Our society now does not emphasize enough how critical bullying has now become. Throughout the past several years many kids have been bullied. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year, and it’s sad to say that 1 in 10 students drop out of school because of repeated bullying. Even if the statistics might be low it still doesn’t mean that it is not a serious problem that needs to be addressed in better ways.
For myself, I experienced this as well when I’m still growing up. Some days I wonder about why this is happening to myself and to others that should have not happen to me and to them so I decided that I want to look into the reasons behind cyber-bullying. Is there any way for cyber-bullying to be prevented or to be stopped?
If you asked adults about their childhood they would probably tell you how they would go outside and play hockey in the street with the neighborhood kids or go over to a friends house and hang out in a treehouse. My dad tells me stories about how he got sprayed by a skunk when he was outside with his dog once, or one time he rode his big wheel down a slide and knocked the wind out of himself.
Have you ever been bullied and thought it was just because that person was having a bad day? One day it starts off in the class and you walk away to ignore it. Now daily insults start to come through via text, social media, and your email. Although the targeted jokes aren’t true, people still laugh because they have no obligation to help anyone other than themselves. That sickening feeling of self-hate and depression causes irrational thoughts to flood your mind; The constant insults jab at yourself -esteem causing you to look into the mirror with disgust often times thinking of ways to change your appearance or true character. Dropping out of school was the only way to escape the pain caused by your environment, but these methods never trash these feelings they only neglect them causing them to linger in your subconscious. Remnants of these emotions cut deep so your wounds cause you to randomly run to the bathroom to wipe your eyes. You sit there wondering if it is all real. The real question is what would you do to help? Would you let this continue to happen? In response to these problems, I will argue that cyberbullying is an issue that is getting out of control and people are not fully aware of its life altering effects. With the increasing usage of social media cyberbullying has caused adolescents to have low self-esteem, to drop out of school, and to harm themselves. Cyberbullying is being ignored and people need to be reminded how serious it is. As a matter of fact,
This has gotten way out of control. Cyberbullying is now a major problem, and someone has to stop it. People all across the globe, have been victims of cyberbullying or know someone who was a cyberbully victim. The internet and online social media platforms was created with an optimistic mindset, and now people are starting to make the internet a bad way of communicating. Cyberbullying is not a game and it isn’t funny, and that’s why I feel schools should be allowed to limit students online speech. It should be limited because, it has become a widespread problem, it's harmful and disruptive to learning environments, and schools need to keep their students and staff safe.
One solution to this major problem would be to inform teens on how to protect themselves from it, what to do if they’re being cyber bullied, and the consequences of it. According to an article written by Teen Safe, “87 percent of today’s youth has witnessed cyber bullying, 24 percent of teens report that they do not know what to do if they would be harassed online, and 39 percent of teens do not enable their privacy settings on social media .” Based on these statistics, teens are not informed enough to be able to know how to deal with cyber bullying. To be able to inform students, schools should create an assembly and an anti-bullying campaign to talk to teens about this problem. If every
Did you know bullying is a leading factor in teen’s suicide rate here in the United States? Bullying is the act of using physical force or verbal use against an individual to make them feel uneasy or bad about themselves. In today’s society we see it more than usual and what’s the response people do. Nothing they absolutely do nothing and walk away like they didn’t see anything happening. Another form of bullying that is growing and picking up pace in society is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the use of using social media or any means of communication that could be like text messages and Facebook to attack an individual behind closed doors. The aspect of cyberbullying that individuals love is the ability to remain anonymous and attack a wider range of individuals over a short time of period rather than using direct confrontation. With social media being a fingertip away we can easily send a Facebook status or a tweet out like that cyberbullying is picking up steam and more and more people are becoming a part of the problem instead on the solution. With the elimination of direct confrontation the individual doesn’t know who is attacking him or her and cannot do much in the process of putting a stop to it or even ask help to make it stop.
