Good afternoon ladies and gentle today I stand before you in the aftermath of Mike Baird's decision to ban greyhound racing in NSW. The topic has generated much debate, was the ban fair and just or was it an overreaction and unnecessary? Baird has since reversed his original decision to ban greyhound racing and has decided to give the industry another chance. In my opinion this was the right thing to do. Not only is greyhound racing a multimillion dollar industry but also creates many jobs, engages fans of all ages and is an integral part of many country towns across Australia. However it's not all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to the industry it does have its problems including live baiting and greyhound euthanasia.
Street racing has become very popular among teenagers and young adults. Many of whom don’t have the years of driving experience but they still prefer to do it just for the sake of fun. Street racing has been around for years, but recently Hollywood and the media have had the interest in entertaining us with this concept so they decided to make TV shows and movies like “Fast and the Furious”. They make it seem fine to street race in neighborhoods, but they don’t show the dangers involved in such an action. Not only are there dangers involved, but also some legal action could take place. After all, street racing is illegal. Not only is the media fascinating us with street racing, but automakers are also racing to create the fastest cars on the
The dogs pulled furiously to drag the sled across the Iditarod trail, getting little pieces of frost stuck to their thick fur. The Iditarod race is something that brings their history back to life. They go from Anchorage, Alaska to Nome, Alaska which is a 1,100 mile course. They go through freezing temperatures down to -64 degrees fahrenheit, and treacherous climbs up mountains. This race is a brutal trail to feel what the men and women felt bringing the serum back from Nome, and here are the pros and cons of this race.
An ongoing ethical debate in America is whether horse slaughter should be legalized in the United States. This debate grabs the emotions of many individuals and arises many questions. Horses are normally considered companions that are used for labor and events. Isn’t it inhumane to kill a companion? Aren’t there enough homes for our furry companions? In all reality horses are expensive animals and aren’t always used for their breeding purposes. Humane societies/rescues barely have enough room for neglected small animals, bringing in larger mammals is not plausible. Saving every animal will cause an overpopulation problem and increase the rate of neglect. Horses are being neglected, starved, abused, and even shipped across the country, banning slaughter houses is the truly the inhumane route. Slaughtering isn’t an easy alternative, but allowing them to suffer isn’t any better.
A couple of years ago, Australia watched on from their tellies as ‘Four Corners’ unraveled the darkest of secrets in modern day greyhound racing. We exposed the gruesome sport for what it is, a lower class ‘Melbourne Cup’ which sends a clear and undeniable statement that the GRV (Greyhound Racing Victoria) have a lack of motivation and desire to fix the sport. The allegations that live baiting is used during training and the corruption surrounding the policing of the sport, further supports the idea that greyhound racing should indefinitely be banned in all states across Australia. Greyhound racing is completely out dated and will leave future generations puzzled at why we encouraged the continuation of this disgusting sport.
Wild horses are something that most people know about, at least to an extent. To many they are the embodiment of the word “freedom”, they are creatures that have been around for centuries roaming free in the mountains and wilderness, pretty much left unchecked except by their natural predators. Gorgeous, majestic, and full of spirit are words that can all be used to describe wild horses and pictures of them make great desktop backgrounds and calendars that show a peaceful and wonderful view of nature. What, then, is the issue with the wild horses and why are there arguements over what needs to be done with them? As a brief explanation wild horses are becoming a nuisance for everyone around them – the ecosystem and humans alike. When left unchecked, as they had been before, what happens, and why is it such a big deal?
Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a necessary evil due to many different reasons.
INTRODUCTION This paper aims to precisely summarize and critically evaluate both Socrates’ Horse Trainer Analogy and his Unintentional Argument. The summary will consist of a presentation of the charges against Socrates, his interrogation of Meletus concerning the city’s youth, and examine the responses he gave to the charge namely the Horse Trainer Analogy (HTA) and the Unintentional Argument (UA). Socrates’ HTA argument and UA both fail to refute the original charges however, both of them do refute the modified charges. Socrates’ HTA argument and UA will be analyzed using the three standards for assessing an analogical argument and it will be proven that the HTA and UA are not successful in the case of refuting the original charges but, they do come in
Most people when they think about bull riding is staying on as long as possible and falling off and getting hurt. Everyone is a nerd about something. Whether it be the more traditionally “nerdy” comic books and video games, movies, clothes, or, yes, sports. That guy that can rattle off every pitcher’s ERA from his favorite baseball team in the last ten seasons? He’s a nerd, too. Now that it’s 2017 and video games and superhero movies are for everyone, it’s time to stop feeling superior to people based on how they spend their personal time. It’s time to let everyone enjoy their hobbies in peace.

I often get asked by friends why I run cross country. They wonder why I think running is fun and how I can run so far. Although there are days I often ask myself why I run cross country, the answer is simple, it is fun and we are all crazy for joining a sport that is other sports punishments. Cross country is an amazing sport that doesn’t get enough recognition. Even if there are days where I hate practice because of a workout or don’t do well in a race, at the end of the day I still get support from the team no matter what happens.
Sweat dripping from your chin, oxygen hard to find, legs feeling numb, eyesight blurred, dizziness setting in, coaches going crazy with words of encouragement and the finish line is only a few feet away. The final stretch is here and all you have to do is catch up to the kid running inches in front of you. Your stomach feels as though as it is on fire, as you get a step the kid. Now you have to pass him and maintain your distance. You can hear the parents screaming your name, motivating you to run even faster. Now the finish is right there, with the adrenaline keeping you going you push yourself through the finish line. Once you pass it you can feel nothing, but your heart pounding like a drum against your chest.
