Persuasive Essay : Should College Tuition Be Free?

Everybody here are paying for their college tuition. Some, including myself, have financial aid and/or scholarships to help us with our tuition. With that, there’s this pressure on us to get good grades and maintain a good GPA so that we don’t lose that scholarship. So imagine how great it would be and less stressful if we didn’t have to worry about keeping our scholarships or paying off loans after graduating. My speech today is on college tuition, and I believe that public colleges should be free. Why? Because there are many people who struggle with their tuition, and even if they were accepted into their first choice college, sometimes the tuition makes it impossible for them to even attend a full year. If college tuition was free, many students would have the opportunity to go to college without worrying about the cost or paying off loans. I will be discussing the issue of college tuition, why it should be free, and its benefits.
When most people hear the idea of free college, many are excited, especially college students because they have one less thing to worry about. However, not too many people are fond of that idea because to them, free tuition equals higher taxes. Some taxpayers believe that the younger generation should endure the same burden that they faced with their student debt. I believe that when taxpayers pay for free-tuitions, the money given isn’t a waste because it’s saving the next generation from living a stressful life of paying off their loans, to which they can relate. Also it helps families who are struggling financially to be able to send their kids off to college without worrying about tuition fees. According to the Washington post: “Grant aid is failing to keep pace with even modest increases in tuition, so families are still having to dig deeper… Median family income has increased at an average rate of 0.3 percent between 2007 and 2016, but tuition has risen much faster than family income.”(Douglas) Not many high school graduates are able to have the same opportunity as others due to the increase in tuition fees. If public colleges around the country became tuition-free like those in New York, many students would receive the same educational opportunities without worrying about
