While the image can have an opposite and distinct meaning for everyone, I believe it fits the theme as a political message -- especially since corporate giants are all you hear on cable news. As a political fan, this visual text denotes how big-name corporations have tremendous political influence in the U.S. From the mainstream media to financial big boys like Bank of America, and even food giants like McDonalds, these corporations are worth billions of dollars and can control the big aspects of our lives. The corporations on the flag also have a significant amount of influence on politicial figures that are chosen to hold the most powerful position in the U.S. What first comes to mind when seeing this visual text is the political statements
Barbash, Use logos to really catch the logical appeal of certain people. He uses the quote, “The issue is whether, because it’s been adopted by some white supremacist groups or because it was flown during the era of slavery, it is so offensive.” to really get the logical minded people thinking. People that this appeals to associate the first American flag with hate and bigotry, because the era it was created in was a
Martin Luther King Jr. used logos in a beneficial way at the start of the text. King stated that; I think I should indicate why I am here in Birmingham, since you have been influenced by the view which argues against outsiders coming in. (King 1) He answers this statement by saying; I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference… So I along with several members of my staff, am here because I was invited here. I am here because I have organizational ties here. (King 2)
Question 1: Scott Russell Sanders uses the appeal of logos throughout the passage, Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World, by appealing to logic, persuading the audience based on sense and reason. In this direct example from the text, “From the beginning, our heroes have been sailors, explorers, cowboys, prospectors, speculators, backwoods ramblers, rainbow-chasers, vagabonds of every stripe,” logos is introduced through excessive detail, giving more than plenty of examples in which we create our heroes to be free-spirits. This detail creates a sense of reason in which it’s logical to assume Americans like to move around based off the list of heroes presented. “In our national mythology, the worst fate is to be trapped on a farm, in
The initial part of the film only uses a lot of logos and a little ethos but then logos is only used here and there at curtain points to reinforce the argument. The film uses logos by stating facts such as the law passed in 2005 when a bill was passed that allowed big companies to bypass the clean water
In the same way, Logos is seen when it is revealed that in the year of 2005, 7,163 bias incidents were recorded by the FBI. Cose logos to reinforce the idea that the grounds surrounding lynching are unfair and biased.
“O’er the land of the free,” our national anthem sings, stating our freedom. America’s flag demonstrates our freedom, as well as our veterans and also has represented guidance. What does America’s flag mean to you? It means a lot to me representing America’s wonderful characteristics. Although, the flag may have gone through hardships, it still stands tall, bold, and wonderful. Now, think about the flags meaning, purpose, and wonders as we take a step forward to learn our wondrous banner’s characteristics in my eyes.
We are persuaded to feel sympathy as well as support the idea that what is happening to this people in unfair and should be changed because it is the right thing to do. The director is using logos to make us see that we are indeed of people in the work fielded and we have illegal immigrant that are not only qualified but willing to work and but their skill to use.
The American Flag is the most widespread symbol Americans have. It took a disaster to make me realize how important it is. I would always wave the flag in a parade or on the Fourth of July, but I never really stopped to think about what I was doing. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 are what changed my view. They caused me to reflect about our country and the value of saying, “I am an American.” After September 11th, there was an explosion of patriotism. Flags were bought and hung everywhere out of pride. The flag represents our country and all of the rights and privileges that we have in the United States, hanging it gave us the strength to move on. People see the flag everyday, yet how many of them actually stop and think
There are not many uses of logos in this article, it can clearly be seen that this was the rhetoric device with the least amount of time spent one. Although it is not really used in the article, it can still be seen when she speaks of the MacArthur test that is currently used, and the
Primarily, Hillary uses the rhetorical device logos to persuade the audience of why women’s rights are important. According to paragraph 5 in her speech, she states, “Women comprise more than half the world’s population, 70% of the world’s poor, and two-thirds of those who are not taught to read and write. We are the primary caretakers for most of the world’s children and elderly. Yet much of the work we do is not valued — not by economists, not by historians, not by popular culture, not by government leaders.” She uses statistics to show that although women do a great amount for this world, their work isn’t valued making them seem less important than their male counterparts.
Liberty, justice and humanity are the three words that this nation is built around. While representing these eternal principles, the flag of the United States of America not only symbolizes the battles faced, but also the truths this country fights to upholds even to this day.
From the Golden State Warriors logo to the United States flag they show a preview of what they are like. The name of my island is Lealtad. The symbol is two people reaching out for each other. In an article in the New York Times, Cynthia Miller-Idriss, says that a flag should be respected because expresses the unity of a society. The name and symbol both show what a country or group believes in and shows that they are unique and that the society works together. If you take a look at the Canadian flag it will show a maple leaf, the maple tree is the national tree in Canada. The California flag shows a bear, because the state animal of California is a bear. Each symbol shows that they are special for something, and that each society believes
this case the Court considered whether the First Amendment protected non-speech acts, as Johnson was convicted of flag desecration and not of verbal communication. If acts of non-speech are protected, then would Johnson’s burning of the flag represent expressive conduct which would permit him to invoke the First Amendment in challenging his conviction. The court reiterated its long standing that the protection of speech does not end at written or spoken word, as previously decided in the case of Stomberg v. California, and Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District. The Court acknowledged that conduct may be “sufficiently imbued with elements of communication to fall within the scope of the First and Fourteenth Amendments.” Having reviewed whether the intent to convey a message was present and the likelihood that the message conveyed would be understood, by bystanders, the Court felt that there were sufficient communication elements to bring the First Amendment into play.
The company logos are common known American born and based companies. I think the author was trying to promote American pride in these companies by replacing the stars on the American flag with the company logos. As a majority of most Americans, I try to purchase American made products from American based companies. I purchase these products to promote the economy and American jobs.
When I think about the U.S. flag the 3 main things I think about is, Family (the most important), our military (2nd important), and my home (last important). First let’s talk about home and why I think home. I think about home because it’s important to me if we lived anywhere else we wouldn’t have as good of homes. And how lucky we are to not hear gunshots, bombs going off, and screaming outside of our house. I think about the scared kids who do have houses like that and families that are getting raided. The second most important thing I think about is the military. I am thankful that they are protecting us from other bad countries. And I’m thankful that they are risking their lives and leaving their families with the chance
