Practice Group Protocol: Difficult Decisions Dealing with problems is a difficult task. When dealing with problems in the work place, whether personal or ethical can be trying. Leading this group gave so much insight into different ideas on dealing with problem solving. I have been in the professional world for twenty plus years, therefore have dealt with difficult customers and/or coworkers. However, I have not been in a group scenario such as this. Having someone to share in the responsibility in planning and executing the group was incredibly helpful. We shared in the process of setting up the project, writing the outline, and presenting to the group. I felt completely comfortable leading the group with Kalyn. It was definitely
The first group situation I will discuss is a multi-professional meeting. The meeting was one I observed which gave me the opportunity to identify group challenges and skills. The meeting was an Adoption
In today’s world teamwork is being utilized by companies across the globe. Employers are seeing the value of teamwork and what can be accomplished when people put the strengths together. These teams consist of people from different cultures with different personalities. Conflict is inevitable when it comes to group dynamics. Conflict resolution is necessary to keep the group functioning efficiently. This paper will analyze group dynamics and focus on conflict resolution by way of communication.
Learning how to work effectively in a group situation is key to success in many professions as well as in social situations. Groups vary from each other based on the individuals that make up each group, all of us belong to various groups at one time or another. The roles that we fulfill vary from group to
This case, as well as the previous two, are prime examples of how detrimental groupthink can have on the effect of your career or the lives of several others. It may not always be easy to recognize the dangers or altercations groupthink may have, which is why you should always appoint ‘mind guards’ to contradict the decisions made within a group setting. It is always beneficial to seek an outside source for their opinion, as it may be just the idea that the group has
Serving as a leader for my group for History Fair has really helped me improve my organization and communication skills. We faced many conflicts because my group and I had many ideas and different point of views and I had to be able to bring those ideas together into one functional project. My job as a leader was also to assign different jobs to the members of the group to make it fair to everyone and divide the work equally. At the beginning there were also many conflicts deciding the topic of the project so we decided to pick a group leader and by everybody’s vote I took the position.
Working in a group to achieve a high quality group project can be one of people’s most difficult school experiences. Working in a group is tough because there is often someone who does not pull their own weight. “There are five stages to group development, adjourning, forming, storming, performing, and norming” (John & Wiley pg 166). Christine’s group from the Case Study the Forgotten Group Member is in between the Storming and Norming Stages. The Storming Stage “is dealing with tensions and defining group tasks,” while the Norming Stage is dealing with high emotionality and tension among the group members” (John & Wiley pg. 166). Christine and her group could have had better
Winslade, even said, 'It's fine to have problems in group. It's never going to be perfect, but you work through it. It's about the process"
Bri was fun to work with, but I felt that she did not contribute to our group as much as the rest of us. She was hardly here due to her dual enrollment, but when she was, she would not do anything that we asked of her and just tried to copy our calendar. Because of this, Jesse, Kara, and I had to pick up the slack and basically completed the entire project ourselves. We definitely learned that it is extremely hard to finish a group project when a member is not performing as she should. I would love to work with Jesse or Kara again but I would oppose working with Bri. I also enjoyed working with Skylar, Maddie, and Connor; they were not in my group, but we did work with them some to create some ideas and I just wanted to give them some credit because they were very understanding and we used each other to bounce ideas off of when coming up with laws and the music and art therapy. Overall, i think that this project was very fun and it gave us all an opportunity to be creative and I believe that is also taught us about compromise as we ended up compromising with each other and other groups more than any other project I have completed
An important part of our learning and growing experience must stem from our ability to analyze and reflect upon the groups that we have been members in. This reflection can define our understanding of the weaknesses both in ourselves and in the others within our group; and it can help to shape the way that we act in future groups. Adjusting ourselves to compensate for our weaknesses, based upon an honest and thorough examination of our actions within a group setting, is one of most important thing for any person to do. It is only through this evaluation that we can improve ourselves and our interactions with others. This paper will examine a group that was required to make an important decision about adding a new member
Working in a group can be beneficial but it can also come with hardship that is if others lack the drive and ability to work together. Working in a group takes effort; it takes psychological support, and cooperation. The foundation of group behaviors is something that can come and go but it takes a lot of effort to keep it going after so long. Although these efforts may come and go it is important to consider what it takes to work within a group, successfully. The article I chose to report on deals with the consequences that can come from those who are working in-group settings. It is important to understand what it takes to be productive and this research does the best it can to tackle those issues. It gives us the information we need to succeed and avoid anything that would go against those successes. One of the biggest concerns within group settings is the
Tuckman proposes that groups develop via five stages; forming, storming, norming, performing and finally adjourning (Archee, Gurney, & Mohan, 2013a). The first stage, known as forming, involves clarifying the task and purpose of the group, and identifying boundaries of both the task and interpersonal behaviour (Archee et al., 2013a). For the presentation task we were randomly allocated into groups. This worried me greatly as I have struggled in the past with group members who do not contribute equally or see the task as important as other group members. To avoid this problem, the group collectively determined and agreed upon a number of ground rules. For example, we decided that all group members were expected to contribute equally to the presentation, all group members were expected to attend and contribute at all group meetings, and all group members would adhere to agreed upon deadlines. Having failed to do this in previous group assignments, this clarification stage
As group leader I have to set forth our goals and listen to the group. Each challenge has a loophole, I firmly believe this in life and work, there is always something you can accomplish together to make that challenge conquered, and relations as a group is the first key to success. (Chapter 2 Pg. 22)
Working in a group can be very difficult at times. Different people with different views may not always agree which one another. Throughout the various task I played the communicator. I made sure everyone was on track on what we wanted to do. I also made sure people was okay and happy in the role they was playing in the group. My group worked together in collecting ideas from one another and making it into one.
This about how to work with groups and other team members, most of the time it is hard to do but with our jobs nowadays we have to do what we have to do. I like working with others for the most part, especially when they are motivated in getting the job done in a timely manner. Then we have some that just don’t want to help but want everybody else to do their work for them.
In conclusion, this class has changed my perspective about working in a group. Since my prior experience with groups was so unsettling, I believed that all groups were going to be the same. However, this class has made it possible to believe that there are groups that respect and take into consideration other members’
