General Information On October 4 and October 6, I observed a Pre-k level daycare class. On the 4th I observed from 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning and on the 6th, from 9:00 to 10:30 in the morning. Staff On the day I observed there were a total of fifteen students, ten girls and five boys. In the classroom there were three adults supervising the children, two teachers and a student teacher. The ratio of children to adults was 7:1. Activities Class started and children were already playing with toys. After a while, the teacher told them to clean and put everything back to where it belonged. It was snack time and children were divided into small groups of four. They all sat on the table and waited impatiently for their food. They were given a healthy combination of white and yellow cheese with apples cut into small pieces. Before eating, every child waited for everyone to get served. When everyone was served all of them prayed together and then ate. After they were finished, they got up of their seats and went straight to the trashcan to throw their garbage. They had to wait for everyone to finish their snacks for them to go sit down at the reading section. When everyone finished, they went and sat down with two of the teachers while the other one was cleaning a mess. Seconds later the director came
Teacher to ratio during the observation is three to five teachers to eight to nine children. During breakfast, there are four teachers. Two are sitting with children at each table and two are doing other duties. At each table, three to four children are sitting with one teacher sitting, helping and supervising children. Another teacher help to reach various things for children and teacher during the breakfast. Also, another teacher change diapers, help children washing hands and bathroom needs, and greet parents. The buggy ride in the neighbourhood after breakfast, three teachers push buggies and a
From birth, it is important for practitioners to support the early years’ mathematical development. Children learn emergent maths which is a “term used to describe children construct mathematics from birth” (Geist, 2010). The Early Years Statuary Frameworks (EYFS) (Department of Education) states that maths is one of the specific areas.
Through interviewing Joyce I gained insight into a strong philosophy, leadership style, and how her background experiences have created the director she is today. When deciding to become a director of a daycare, there are two options: opening and owning your own center or directing an established or corporate owned daycare. While I have done much research on owning my own daycare, I have little experience about what it would be like to be the director of an established center. Financial responsibilities and budgeting are also two aspects that are important, but the level of responsibility is drastically different in each scenario. Lastly, legal and ethical responsibilities exist in either scenario as well.
At Children’s Discovery Center the daycare is split into two buildings, one building is for the children in pre-school and the second building is for infants to three year olds getting ready to start pre- school. The classroom I observe is for children 18 months to 28 months. They are about fourteen children in the class with two teachers. The way the class is set up the younger students and their two teachers share one classroom, but the teachers and their toddlers are not in the same room until lunch time and nap time. The classroom has a kitchen, reading area, girls and boys bathroom, activity tables and there is a connecting room for the children to have bible time and free play. The discovery center has three separate playgrounds for the
In early learning environments, children acquire knowledge and develop cognitive, social and emotional, physical and language acquisition skills in the content areas such as language arts, math, science, and social studies in a variety of ways. It is up to the teachers to plan and implement in-depth studies of themes and topics that are meaningful and relevant to the children, being sure to address the development of the whole child while integrating all of the content areas. In the physical classroom the environment should provide students with hands-on opportunities to grow and develop skills, gain knowledge, and have fun as they explore carefully designed learning centers. They should be provided with materials that are related to
Have you ever thought why won’t the schools develop daycare programs at the school? The daycare center at the school for young teen mothers who dropout of school to start their career early without furthering their education and young teen fathers won’t feel the need to drop out to get a job and support his child. There are some on site daycare’s in some states but there’s just a few, there needs to be more. Although having on site daycare center has some bad to it, to others it has some good to it like teen parents feeling of security can be satisfied knowing that their child is in a safe place, create more jobs, and teens save up money and welfare won’t be an option.
The fieldwork assignment was completed at The Salvation Army after-school program in Newburgh, New York. The Salvation Army host a after-school program for students in the grades K-8. Any student that is in a higher-grade level than 8th grade usually volunteers at The Salvation Army. There are three employed adults, which one of them is the director of the program. They have a daily routine and a weekly schedule of activities. The first set of students that arrive to the program is between 3:15 to 3:30 pm. Those students are welcome to start their homework until the next set of students arrive which is between 4:15 to 4:45 pm. Around 5 pm the students have their dinner. After dinner those students who have homework is separated from the rest
I have chosen to investigate Teeny Tots Day Nursery. This is an early years’ service and cares for children from birth to 5 years old. Parents have to pay for their children to go to Teeny Tots Day Nursery.
In conclusion, I decided to do this particular topic because of personal experience. I observed a daycare facility; the teacher had a child that was not able to digest food items like a typical child. The child was three years old. She was feeding in a feeding tube. The teacher in the class room was not able to work the machine so the child can eat. All the children in the center finished eating besides the child. The teacher had to go to classroom to classroom to receive

One school afternoon while the kids were eating lunch Mrs. McNally was going up star to eat her lunch. Mrs. McNally sat in her rocking chair and opened her bright pink lunch box. She pulled out her thermos filled with extra cheddar mac n cheese. Down stairs in the cafeteria the kids were eating pizza with fruit and milk. As the kids were finishing up the were dismissed to go back to class. A student was finishing eating their banana and dropped it on the floor.
a. Use the following data to justify the amount of time that you expect to assign for weekly homework to classes in grades K–4 and grades 5–8.
I believe that this is true. Especially when it comes to my job. I have worked in the child care field for over twenty years and with all age groups. Although I have worked with a variety of age groups ( from infants to pre-k) I feel that I much more needed in the pre-k area. I believe that I have the ability to teach a child what he or she needs to know by figuring out how they learn best and go from there. Now days children become so frustrated because it is hard for them to learn something, but the truth of the matter is that they are having such a difficult time because no one takes the time to break down what ever the child needs to learn, in a manner in which he or she can understand. With the age group that I have now, I am not really
While there are some caregiver’s that are only in the human service field to earn a paycheck and with the lack of parental involvement in their child’s life, it can make a caregiver’s job more challenging. Daycare centers serve as a stepping stone for a child’s future that will teach them how to establish appropriate skills and aid in the development of their cognitive abilities. Positive child interactions not only aid in the development of social and cognitive development, but also in the child’s self-esteem and it lets them know they are important and loved.
One time there was three boys named Sam, Michael, and Nick. They always picked on the new kids that came to their school. The second week after school started there was a new kid named Billy Bob and he has moved away from friends he has had in his last school so he knew nobody. He had the same lunch as the three boys Sam, Michael and, Nick the boys always took his food and left him with nothing to eat.
