Sports players earning more money than more important professions. Athletes don’t deserve the immense amounts of money there raking in.They earn towering amount compared to; doctors, teachers, military, fireman, policeman and contributable jobs to the nation At the end of the day, there just entertainment for are eyes and ears, nothing more. A large distribution of money goes to professional athletes, this is problematic because it has allowed increased commercialization grants players limitless amounts of power in the society, and can be construed as wastefulness of money. Commercialization just adds to the massive amounts of money they already have. The increasing in there salary, is influenced predominantly by commercialization Informational websites have stated that” LeBron James makes 44 million a year just from endorsements, his contract is 30.96 million a year, compared to an average teachers salary 47, 633.The players make more money just from endorsements than teachers do with there full contract, when the teachers do more for the society. There are people out there starving and no money, but yet sports players are making 100 million a year, some of that money should be put in more important areas There shouldn’t be such a gap like that, the money needs to go to more areas who could use it. The average military salary this website proves is about 18,000 as a the low ranks and it doesn’t go up a lot when you rank up. The military protects are country, awarded us freedom, they don’t get to see there families very often, but yet they don’t even make a dent into the money the Athletes
Kids grow up loving to play sports in their free time. They never get paid to play when they are at a young age. They do it for the love of the game and for the need for competition. This is the way that it is in college right now. College athletes compete with all their hearts to be the best they can for their schools. They don’t get paid a cent. It has been a common debate if that is the right way to do it. Should it be that college athletes do not deserve to get paid for playing a sport? It should not be this way. College athletes certainly should get paid to play.
That’s only $19,719 less than the minimum salary in the NBA.” To elaborate, if someone was a full-time student-athlete, not only do they have student obligations to their education, but they have obligations to their team as well. Somehow in-between two-a-day practices, weekly games, and being a student, do people anticipate these athletes to work a job? Even the idea sounds funny, seeing Tim Tebow in 2009, shortly after winning a National Championship, serving food at a local Georgia restaurant. Most students fumble around with a job while being a full time student, these student athletes are full time athletes and students, and not seeing the money they earned on the field. According to John Brill a journalist for the Shirley Povich Journalism Center, the three weeks of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, known as “March Madness,” generate over $770 million in TV rights deals alone. To even think that none of that money goes to the athletes is absurd. An empire built of student athletes flaunting their hard-worked talents. American Televised Networks are cheating athletes. These networks are now multi-million-dollar networks breaking new grounds and reaching peak attendances they are the stepping stone for sports TV in America. Only, they are an empire built on other people’s success. Those players will never see a nickel for their work. That is unless they go pro, which to reiterate is restricted by NCAA rules. Yet one more example of these athletes
The play starts with an abrupt hike. His legs take off into a full sprint and he easily bypasses the player of the opposite team, who’s supposedly guarding him. He turns; the ball is spiraling into view and now is his chance to shine. As he jumps into the air to grab his glory, a sudden impact from the opposing player forces him to be thrown onto the ground where a tibia snaps. The player is taken off the field and rushed to the hospital where medical bills begin to accumulate. As a college athlete, one might obtain a scholarship to attend and participate in the athletics, but what if that player gets hurt? He is so focused on his athletic career that he can’t imagine a career outside of sports. College athletes should be compensated for participating in school funded athletics due to the use of their image and name, along with the risk of their personal health.
Although Athletes entertain us all and provide us with something to look forward to, their paychecks are too big for what they do. There are millions of people who are injured in the military or have illnesses that need that money to help them recover ,but instead we give the money to people who entertain us.
Athletes should not be drafted for professional sports straight out of high school. Instead they should be allowed time before going pro to either attend college, play in a minor league or to further mature into adulthood. After all, every student will excel at differently rates. Even after high school, it is quintessential for students to continue their education. In today’s society, athletes are more than just celebrities they are role models for many of the youth.
Do think that it is necessary for Pro-athletes to get a limit to what they get paid through salary caps? There shouldn’t be a salary cap in professional sports because all-stars might be paid the same amount of money as really bad players with low salaries or vise versa, if people pay a lot of money to watch these all-stars they shouldn’t have a limit to how much they get paid, and if all-stars aren’t happy about the low paying salary some of these players might quit their pro league and sports fans would be angered and mad.
“Unless you’re finding a cure for cancer or creating world peace, I don’t know if anybody deserves to get that much money.” That is coming from a NFL quarterback, Drew Brees. Take for instance, Jimmy Garoppolo, which is only 26 years old , just signed the biggest contract in NFL history. The contract was for 5 years and worth $137.5 million. He is making on average $27.5 million per year! Now, look at the average salary for a Georgia State Trooper. Once they graduate from trooper school, they can earn on average $35,741 a year. The athlete makes nearly 770 times the amount of the troopers’ salary! The people that keep the roads safe have a salary that is no comparison to an athletes. Professional athletes get paid too much to just entertain the general public. Public service jobs, military
“ When you invest your time, you make a goal and a decision of something that you want to accomplish. Whether it's make good grades in school, be a good athlete, be a good person, go down and do some community service and help somebody who's in need, whatever it is you choose to do, you're investing your time in that.” was said by Nick Saban. This is reminiscent of the hard times students athletes face. That sports don't help keep your grades up with these three reasons. First, a student could be failing all their tests and get a hundred percent on homework and still get to play. Second, due to sports, athletes may have to skip school which could cause them to get behind in their schoolwork. The third reason is a classmates would have to put
Do you think that entertainment is more important than health and safety? Based on the salaries of professional athletes, it is apparent that our country believes so. In the past year, the players on the Cleveland Cavaliers made an astounding total of $131.8 million. That is more than 10 times the amount of money that a neurosurgeon will make in 10 years. Although athletes show incredible talent and dedication, one can see that they are being paid too much after comparing their salaries to the salaries of others who show these same traits.
There are people who deserve a large amount of money each year, for instance, a doctor makes around $225,000 a year, they deserve it. This year in the NBA the highest paid athlete (LeBron James) is making roughly $31,000,000 a year, which is not even a full year. There are teachers
Do professional athletes need caps on their salaries? This shouldn't even be a question, professional athletes are being paid tons of money just to play the game they love. The reason why they need salary caps is so teams will have a balance of players. Some teams would just be completely stacked with great players. Understanding if you are a professional athlete you're good, but there is always good and great. Teams wants the great athletes, not just the good ones. Also fans want to watch a good game, nobody wants to watch games when they know the team is just going to kill the other team. Lastly, teams would start to run out of money, and players would demand too much money for their skill sets. Coaches could end up spending all the money
Boom! Boom! Boom! The sounds of bullets shatter the ears of every soldier on the battlefield. Soldiers are put through rigorous training just to come home and get paid $4,445-5,690 a month, while Nikola Pekovic, a professional NBA player, is injured for the rest of the season and is making 4.9 million dollars to do nothing. Professional athletes make too much money because they don’t donate enough, their skill are not worth what they make, and sports don’t contribute enough value to society.
Anytime people think of famous athletes, they think of them as role models to follow and superstars with a lot of money. What exactly do all of these athletes do with so much money? Do athletes get paid too much, according to this statement “The top 10 earners rake in a combined $496.9 million, and they sure do know how to treat themselves” (Melia). Professional athletes are making too much money in a society that wages are traditionally on the value of someone’s work. Some might argue that athletes get paid just right for the amount of effort and sacrifice they take every day in order to give the world the entertainment they want.
Many of These athlete’s helps to fill those stadiums, attract many fans to their TVs, radios and sell their jerseys and team apparel also entertain the fans. In addition, the Athletes who are a valuable asset to their team, are paid more than rookies are just coming into the league. If you are a rookie, according bleacher report its states a “rookie would probably make about $500,000 a year”. Once an athlete gains his experience, then his wage will rise dramatically. It is the same as in a the business world , if you work hard and improve and stand out you will eventually get more money or If you can’t do your job right and always messing up then you get fire ,but in this case in sport you get released from the team. Many Athletes devote their lives to training and improving at their job, also putting their careers on the line each and every time they go to work. For Example, a professional’s athletes don’t have security in their jobs, because of that many athletes are only good at their sport and a career ending injury could doom their dreams and even if they able to make a comeback it’s rare for them to become as good they used to be or even make a decent salary. An example Jay Williams was a college basketball superstar from Duke University and a number two overall pick in the NBA
Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money for telling jokes, throwing a football, swinging a bat, and shooting a basketball. The people that drive trucks, save lives, and serve in the military don’t get paid as much as they do. They suffer more than the professional athletes and entertainers do too.
