Professional Career Development: Assignment A
Geneticist
Career
Geneticists are biologists that study genetics; the science of genes. Genes are the basic information units through which genetic information is maintained and transmitted. These are sequences of DNA that act like chemical databases forming the blueprint of all living cells or organisms. Information contained in genes underpins the hereditary phenotypic variation of organisms as well as any abnormalities passed on to the next generation.
Description
As a current student studying for a life sciences degree , there are many career options as well as opportunities that I am interested in. Genetics is a sector, which is very appealing to me since one can study the science of

It is considered necessary to have studied genetics at a degree level to proceed on any higher qualification level. Finally, having knowledge of conducting research, hospital laboratory placements or internships and experience gained using similar scientific approaches as well as analytical or problem solving techniques are considered very helpful for future work placement. Any strong skills will be recognized such as being good at synthesizing information or good at oral or writing communication, teamwork, being able to construct or monitor coherent arguments and collaborate or evaluate creative or critical thinking.
Main employers
Most careers relating to genetics are based in the health services with employers at hospitals, pharmaceutical institutions as wells as colleges or even universities. Furthermore, other important employers are the National Health Service as well as the government departments such as law enforcement agencies. The government-sponsored research councils facilitate laboratories that recruit specialized scientists, with a higher degree. There are also other opportunities in companies related to life sciences degree or more particularly to biological sciences. So, in biotechnological, agribusiness companies, food, energy, water, horticultural, biotechnological, environmental institutions, health and beauty care or even research and agricultural, farming, agrochemical industries as well as
A Genetic Counselor is someone who provides information and support to those who have birth defects, genetic disorders or at risk of such conditions. They may also look for treatment of disorders, or conduct research on the cause or they may work to help the families and individuals understand the condition they or others may have. To be a genetic counselor you have to have completed master's degree program in genetic counseling. Students should prepare with undergraduate courses in biology, chemistry, genetics, and psychology. Some the top schools to go to outside of Virginia for genetic counseling majors is Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, or Boston University School of Medicine. Though schools that are in state and are
Genetics is the study of genes, genome, heredity and genetically variation of multiple organisms. Without studying genetics, we all human being would not know the process of living and surviving also we would not have existence on earth. My best topic of genetics are usefulness of medical genetics, gene therapy and ethical dilemma of conducting gene therapy. Whereas United States government does not allow federal funds to be used in gene therapy for people; genetic testing can cure people from illness given that gene therapy treats human illness. There are so many genetic disorder spreading throughout the world which may have some diagnosis and some are not.
The positive outcome of genetic research are the potential benefits and the aspects of these why these can affect the current life and future life of people. An outstanding performance can affect everyone in a positive way. According to doctors in the article “Genetic Testing - Benefits, Costs, and Risks of Genetic Testing ; “ Research testing involves finding new genes, linking genes and genetic mutations to specific medical conditions, and finding out ,how genes work and affect individuals.” This represents on how new work, and involving new links of an individual process. It also mentions, finding these new genes can be helpful towards the work that needs to be done in a progressing manner . A negative test result of a negative matter
Mrs. Covar explained to me, “A geneticist is a medical doctors that studies genetics, their roles, task, and impacts on living things.” With this in mind, I knew a geneticist would be the perfect occupation for me, for it was a form biology, which effectively facilitates living organism. Nowadays, geneticist can not only diagnose disorders, but also cure and treat disorders as well. In addition to my interest in disabled people, specifically physical and genetically inherited individuals, becoming a geneticist would be the most significant way in helping them.
Genetics has always played a role in my personal and professional life, although I may not have recognized how much. I grew up with my best friend having a genetic disorder (Gardner’s Syndrome) although it was not until our adolescent years that I really understood the implications it had on her life and her family’s life.
Genetics are the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in living organisms. Genetics affect us in many different way. There also many things that relate to us in genetics. Like Punnett Square where they show the probability of genotype offspring. Pedigree chart, which tracks out traits. Selective breeding, which humans use to animal and plant breeding to selectively develop phenotypic traits. GMOs also have a big relation to us.
Genetic engineers deal with the DNA of organisms. They rearrange the genetic code to improve the performance of the organism.
I really interested in gene discovery, and I want to be a Professor of Medical or Human Genetics, who fully understands about clinical laboratory tests, and able to develop new clinical tests. I always look medical genetics as a field, which capable of improving the world., in particular, by gene sequencing and gene discovery because my family is affected by a genetic disorder. Therefore, I believe that by working in a laboratory of sequencings, I will be able to play a role and contribute to the health of general public.
Genetic engineers first find a trait or a gene they want to recreate, then they isolate said gene and use a host cell to transfer it into and then use a vector which will transfer the gene from place to place within the organism (Genetic Engineering).
Genetics is the foundation that controls the diversity and natural selection of the world we live in now. Each organism ranging from the smallest bacteria to the largest of animals all have genes that make up their own personal identity. Without these genes designating these identities, there would never be such things as “organisms” but rather just one organism. Genetics is vital to the world because no matter what boundaries or challenges an organism is presented with, there will always be that one organism that is genetically modified with mutations to survive and reproduce. With the technology and research we are now presented, we now have the ability to create genetically modified organisms.
Having a keen interest in the field of science and hoping to pursue a career in medicine, I am naturally drawn to this course. By attending this course, I can deep dive into the topics of evolving diseases and potential cures. The study of bioscience and biotechnology will give me the unique opportunity to immerse myself in the evolution of how we diagnose diseases and benefit patients. With early diagnosis and the technology to analyze genetics, patients can leverage preventative medicine to support their health during the early stages, when treatment is the most effective. The intersection of bioscience and biotechnology has also sparked new types of medicine, treatment and therapy that alter and repair one’s genes such as, gene therapy and stem cell treatment. With technology playing an increasing role in society, the health industry is increasingly more advanced and I fervently want to join this team of professional benefactors.
Biotechnology functions to living organisms or any technological application that uses biological systems. I don’t remember when I showed interest in that subject first, but I liked to read science articles and watch national geographic since I was young. It was just a simple interest and curiosity about science at first, but it developed to the aspiration of studying specific major of biotechnology when I chose IB subjects. After I had a conversation with teachers, peers, parents, and other acquaintance about science subjects and reflected my past science classes, I chose biology and chemistry in order to study biotechnology in the near future. The reason why I want to study biotechnology is that I would like to work in the laboratory and
First, in order for geneticists to identify a gene of interest, they start by lookin at other potential organisms. The geneticist has to identify the trait they desire the organism to have and must find any other organisms that already contain that gene. Finding a novel gene of interest requires intensive research into that gene as well as luck. As an example, if a scientist wanted a gene that improved the nutrient composition of a plant, they would look through many organisms that they believed that produces that specific nutrient, additionally if a scientist wanted a crop to have a gene that allows it to survive in drought conditions, they would most likely look for an organism living in those persistently hotter conditions. Additionally, this also involves testing in order to find the organism with the most ideal and “worthy” trait.

Genetics is the science of the genes, the part of biology responsible for studying all things related to heredity, genesis, origin of beings and how inherited characteristics are transmitted through generations. It identifies chromosomical abnormalities during the embryonic development and also plays a preventive and curative part in science, using genetic therapies as corrective measures.
