The Life Lesson Trough a Teacher’s Eyes, is a book written by Dr. Jillian Laderhouse. This book is like a journal where Dr. Laterhouse tells personal experiences that have shaped her life. The book commences off with a strongly affirmation where Dr. Latehouse states that be a teacher is her life’s calling. In the introduction of the book Laterhouse establish her foundation as a teacher, she mentioned many experiences that shape her as a teacher and recall the fact that she lived in a teacher profession family. She mentioned stories about her childhood, stories that have shaped her life into the teacher profession; she stated “I grew in a teacher’s home”. As I read the book I noticed that I have not had the same opportunity as Laterhouse to live in a teacher’s home. However, as I continue reading the book I saw that the lessons learned by the author can help me even though I did not grow in a teacher’s home. It is evident in the book the spiritual life and God centered life.

Growing up in a small town and living on a farm teaches a young adult many skills that are useful in everyday life. Hands-on experiences, such as bailing hay or feeding the horses, develop skills in hard work and responsibility. I started working on equipment and vehicles at a young age with my father; first learning names and uses for tools, then parts to machinery. A paramount skill for working on equipment (your own or a paying customers) is determining the most economical repair. We would often use parts that were already in our garage or try to repair items that were broke to eliminate the expense of replacing the equipment. Welding was a necessity almost every time that something broke to hold the pieces back together.

It takes a great teacher to change a student’s life because it is not always easy to change a student’s life. Sometimes the student’s personal life troubles them and they just need someone to talk to and the teacher can be their outlet and safe place. Teachers can build strong relationships with students so that they can teach them more than just equations and formulas. They have the ability to teach their students important life lessons that go way beyond the classroom. I personally believe that education is one of the most important things to achieve in life. No matter what it can never be taken away from you. From my observations and experiences in the classroom each child is unique in his or her own way. Students inside a classroom needs a teacher who will make them feel secure, comfortable and in a stimulating atmosphere. These aspects help to attain growth, mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to meet the needs of my students in any way possible, so that they are able to meet their fullest potential in life. Children are the future, so as a teacher I need to take all the necessary steps to get them to their fullest potential. I believe that the teacher should act as a guide, allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his or her learning, and promoting respect for all people are conductive to establishing productive students of tomorrow.

The people in my life I have always looked up to the most have been my teachers. When I was a child, they seemed all-powerful, the givers of the knowledge I didn’t even know I sought. Now, as a teenager, I still hold the opinion that educating the next generation is one of the noblest tasks a person can devote themselves to. Like many children, I went through many “dream career” phases: astronaut first, inspired by the “Magic School Bus” books, then veterinarian, a seemingly natural fit with my love of animals. (That dream ended quickly when I discovered I fainted when my own blood was taken and couldn’t bear to see animals in pain.) However, at a relatively young age, I abandoned those lofty goals for one that genuinely seemed to fit me. I wanted to pursue teaching, specifically English. These days when my relatives ask me about college, I’m ready with an answer and many reasons to back me up. I want to be a teacher because of the influences of those in my own life, a desire to be a leader of others, and my passion for language arts.
