Pros and Cons of Science and Technology

Technology is both a blessing and a curse. It can make the lives of people better or it can completely make everything inconvenient. Technology has gone from something that was once complex to something used on the daily. It, in fact, may be destroying and taking over society. This idea is proposed in both “By the Waters of Babylon” by Stephen Vincent Benet and “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury, however, presents the most disturbing and cruel views on technology and society.

Millennials and technology are almost synonymous today. Technology is everywhere and is a hugely important part of the world today. While that is usually seen as truth, some people question the requirement of technology in schools, employers looking at candidate's social medias, and if technology is good to be used in schools. Many people think it can be a distraction or that it should not be required. Millennials do things very different from the way past generations have previously. Technology plays a huge part in the lives of every child now. Technology can have many pros and cons and some people debate the validity of the claims that technology can help students. Schools no longer strictly ban technology but rather encourage it. Today’s generation can communicate with people across the world, do schoolwork, shop, and attend school all online. This is usually seen as a big advantage to students now. This prepares students more for the things they will have to do in college and in their future careers. Most jobs and colleges rely heavily on technology now more than ever. Teachers even keep their lesson plans in folders on their computers. But can technology negatively impact a child’s future?

Yet one must be able to view the advantageous and disadvantageous results of the attempts. While living standards rose, business prospects expanded, and people generally became more knowledgeable than ever before these wonderful progress moments were merits more so towards the wealthy elite than the everyday person. Viewing the aftermath of the development of the two fields in centuries past it is difficult to view the good without the bad. Individuals came to rely ever so greatly on science and technology to resolve their issues all the while turning a blind eye at the underlying cause at hand. Science and technology throughout history have been the foundation of society. Without it, the human race would still be in the prehistoric age. Successes in health sciences helped in prolonging human life and to survive deadly diseases. Science and technology are also the catalyst for multiple revolutions in human history. During the industrial revolution, cities became flooded with people causing discomfort, the pollution became rampant, and social divide widened. Science is an important part of our every day lives. We wake up each morning because we hear the ringing of our alarm clocks and turn on our faucets to wash our faces with warm water. We turn on the lights in our rooms to see our clothes and get dressed and we put our breakfast in the toaster and sip coffee from our mugs.
