Leadership:
Qualities of a good leader
There are qualities that make a good leader these are being able to undertake the decision making processes; using various different types of techniques to help motivated them team; being able to give feedback to teammates or peers, without being specific using questions, such as “What angle should your feet be facing?”; a leader has to be able to establish relationships amongst the team, as these relationships are interpersonal; finally a leader needs to be able to confidentially direct a team or a group. However, there are two theories the trait theory and social learning theory which describes the qualities of a good leader. The trait theory suggests that leaders are born with the natural leadership qualities, such as good communication skills and enthusiasm. Whereas, the social learning theory suggests that the leader learn to use their skills to meet the current situation. (Teachpe.com, 2016) For example, Team GB may have some natural born leaders that are in charge, or leaders that have learnt how to become leaders by trial and improvement; a good leader will boost the team’s performance as it means that they are able to motivate the team to improve and do better.
Emergent or Prescribed
Leaders can be prescribed or emergent; a prescribed leader is a leader that is appointed that position, such as if the team chose that specific person to become the captain or if someone in a higher position gives someone that necessary power.
The personality traits of a good leader have a somewhat diverse focus. It is mainly concerned with the leader's attitude towards the team. Therefore, considerate qualities are a significant element of the personality traits of a good leader. Leaders need to be faithful and sincere. They should be able to care about their workers on both a personal and professional level. A leader has to develop diverse response in order to cope with crisis management.
The next question posed to Rene inquired about essential characteristics of a leader. After giving the question some thought she responded by saying that a leader must be able to remain objective and prioritize. “Prioritizing in my job is essential,” Rene stated, “with so many issues to deal with some nights it can be difficult to determine which to tackle first. However, remaining calm and objective in your decision making can help a leader prioritize properly, which can improve patient outcomes.” Additionally, Rene emphasized that the best leaders lead by example. By displaying desired attitudes and behaviors, a nursing leader may inspire their staff to act in a similar manner. Another area Rene stressed when posed this question was a leader’s ability to support learning. She went on to state that “it is necessary to focus on learning, not chastising. Placing the blame on someone rather than stepping back and looking at the details of a problem, deters the team from achieving the overall goal. Incident reports remain vital to the process of learning.” Rene continued to emphasis that by filling out incident reports individuals can analyze a situation or process and determine where the flaws or errors remain present. Without incident reports and learning from mistakes, growth remains difficult. Diana S. Contino (2011), author of “Leadership Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitudes Nurses Need to Lead Organizations Effectively,” believes that organizational and
Having patience, self-discipline, optimistic, intelligence and confident are all good qualities a good leader should have. Leaders are encouraging to the team members and not negative toward them, that gives the players confidence so they can concentrate on what they need to improve. In addition they
What is a leader? A leader is a person who commands a group, organization, or country. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. I have experience democratic leaderships through playing on a high school football team, being apart of groups in college for class presentations, being a youth leader in my church, and also being apart of a family. I have gain important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Some of valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to have more patience, to be not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I
In the world today, there are leaders everywhere such as Parents, Pastors, The President, CEO of Companies, Supervisors and World leaders just to name a few, these individuals can be good or bad, for you or against you. A leader is a person that sees things through in order to make change either in the mental growing aspect of one’s life, the economics of the world, or spiritual belief. Qualities of a Leader Everyone has their own ideas of what makes a leader, as I do. A leader is capable of inspiring, motivating and persuading people around them to commit willingly to work towards a specific idea. A leader has a clear vision and is able to see where they want to go and are able to communicate it clearly to their team. Some people say that some leaders are ‘naturally born’ while others state that being a leader does not come naturally, but can develop through encouragement from others, being inspired and by means of practice.
As we continue to learn about leadership, we continue to see the importance of having certain qualities. There are differing opinions on what traits hold more importance than others, but in the end, each quality plays a specific role in forming an excellent leader. Three qualities that preform a role in the equation, and that needs strengthened in my own leadership skills, are enthusiasm, persistence and charisma.
True leaders are born with this ability not everyone can be an effective leader. A good leader can do the role of an effective manager. But leadership is complex, its not necessarily something that effective managers can learn. As trait theory approach described that people are born with inherited traits. Leaders should have as alert to environment, adaptability to situations, assertive, ambitious and achievement oriented, cooperative and dominant with desire to influence other, identified by Stogdil (1974). In addition, a leader should have certain skills such as being persuasive, diplomatic and tactful, conceptually and socially skilled.
It is so important for every individual to know the great characteristics of being a leader. Leadership today is such a dominant characteristic to have because it shows the capability of being able to lead others with an purpose. This role is used everywhere within a job field, sports, churches, homes, and pretty much anything you can name when you are taking authority from someone or something. Five characteristics of leadership that I will be discussing in this paper on how leadership enhances yourself as a person from culture to culture, how leadership enhances the qualifications of your progress in the workplace, and also how leadership helps you in college as well are: Visionary, Open-minded, Inspirational, Humbleness and Trustworthiness.
It is evident that integrity and competence are two crucial traits of any successful leader. In order to get to know the importance of a quality over the other, we need to find out which of the two can a leader survive without.
What qualities make a good leader? You can ask a hundred different people, and you will get a hundred different answers. A good leader is someone who accomplishes the mission, has the respect of their subordinates, and makes the difficult decisions when needed. For me, I believe that a great leader needs to have a variety of qualities, but most importantly a sense of fairness, hard work/care, and common consideration for others. Different experiences throughout my life and time at West Point have lead me to believe that these three tenants are what are most needed for a great leader. In terms of a leader’s moral character, common consideration has the greatest influence on the success of a leader, because without common consideration, a
Leadership: the definition states that someone in the position of leader, who guides or directs a group. This definition is hauntingly broad to me. Leadership, I believe, is not an idea that can be defined. It is instead an exemplary action by a single person whose best interest lies with the betterment of the group, and not himself. The qualities of an effective leader are apparent in Lord of the Flies. As for an effective leader in today’s society, this essay will analyze the leadership qualities of the Republican and Democratic front runners in the current political race.
To be a great leader one must have many attributes or qualities. Some of the most important are flexibility, communication, courage, humility, and responsibility. A great leader must be flexible as being a leader usually consists of dealing with new challenges all the time, especially in the technological age. Communication consists of effectively conveying expectations and understanding how people will interpret the leader’s directions. A great leader must have the courage to see the path that the group must take to complete the goal regardless of the consequences. When a great leader does not correctly handle a situation he or she must have the humility to admit that he or she was wrong. Also, this leader must be responsible for the
Every day, established companies perform operations to serve the worldwide population with some type of product or service. It is important to understand the behavior of individuals within these organizations in order to have the ability for further development. Individuals are all defined by certain behaviors and characteristics. Specifically from a management standpoint, it is important to understand these behaviors and characteristics so that the manager can demonstrate a certain leadership style that will work best within their own organization. There is a common saying within most organizations, stating that all leaders should be managers, but not all managers should be leaders (Sun). Aspiring leaders need to identify the various types of leadership styles that exist, as well as the characteristics of a good leader, in order to choose the correct implementation within an organization.
It is obvious that our society is organized according to some regularities. There are people who should make some serious decisions and rule our world and, at the same time, there are also people who accept these decisions, hoping that they will result in some benefits for them. It should be said that not always leaders, who are responsible for some important decisions, are respected by the rest of population. That is why, very often even right and needed solutions cannot be accepted because of the lack of trust which this person has. In coherent society this problem is usually connected with the leadership qualities which a person possesses. Under these conditions, the question of leadership obtains a great importance. Trustworthy leader can be more efficient as he/she can unite people only by the power of his/her words and persuade them to work in order to achieve some result. At the same time, a leader, who cannot be trusted, has pernicious influence on a collective and even destroys it. With this in mind, it is possible to analyze different types of leaders in order to understand the difference better.
