This RN-BSN program has helped me to become a better nurse on so many levels. I am able to understand my patients but better than that I have developed more skills on how to assess and perform interventions on my patients, and to understand that those interventions are recommended by a base evidence practice. This week I look for peer review articles that relates to my capstone project to explain the importance of the topic for me and who will benefit from this research. It is very important that the articles are peer reviewed because they are reliable sources that can assist me as guides in the project. With this project I will put in practice the knowledge acquired in the research class in how to look, recognized, and analyze a peer review
As a provider of care, professional nurses depend on research, theories, and evidence based practice to guide the care they provide to patients. Nurses deliver care to their patients based on information they have learned through many years of school and training. Training for nurses and other providers of care is founded on theories, research, and evidence based practice in the healthcare field. Theories, research, and evidence based practice are all important for providing care to patients and each can be used in a different manner depending on the situation. Clinicians often use research based evidence to design and implement care that is high-quality and cost effective for patients. Evidence based practice can be used to provide care to patients in a steadily changing clinical environment. (PDF page 8-9). Nursing theories are frequently used as frameworks for establishing nursing care interventions and assessing
Evidence based practice is an integral part of nursing care. According to the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses, evidence based practice is defined as, “the conscientious use of current best evidence in making decisions about patient care.” (AMSN) The use of evidence based practice has drastically improved patient outcomes, increased quality and safety of healthcare, and reduced costs for facilities. (Melnyk, 2016) In this paper I will provide the history of evidence based practice, how it has already been incorporated and impacted healthcare, and why it is important to nursing and healthcare as a whole.
Review the American Nurses Association website and peer-reviewed articles in the American Journal of Nursing
An important component of evidence-based nursing, is the professional nurse’s ability to create a search strategy that will assist professionals in finding relevant research articles that address an important clinical problem in need of a timely solution. As the Institute of Medicine’s core competencies for health care professionals have called upon nurses to advocate person-centered care, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics, United Health Group’s complex medical conditions case managers are advocating person-centered care while creating quality outcomes (Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, 2010). This assignment will explain five
BSN is expected to also use research studies for a basis for their decision making. ADN analyzes assessment data, where BSN synthesizes comprehensive assessment data to solve problems. ADN’s evaluate and report outcomes and plan interventions from evidence based practice, where BSN nurses compare these interventions and outcomes to benchmarks in research and evidence-based practice and plans follow-up nursing care. They both create teaching plans to promote healthy outcomes, although BSN’s go on to assess population risk (BON,
Differences regarding competencies of an associate degree nurse and a baccalaureate degree nurse have long been discussed and argued. It has been argued that the associate degree nurse is less competent than the baccalaureate degree nurse. The difference among these competencies has also led to the discussion and concern regarding negative outcomes when it comes to quality patient care. “Quality patient care hinges on having a well educated work force” (Rosseter, 2011) With further research I have found that there are many differences in the competencies and educational preparation between these nurses. I was not aware of these differences until I further researched this topic. In the Journal of Nursing Education June 2006 issue it states
Identify two areas of nursing practice, which evidence-based practice has improved patient outcomes. State the study and its impact on patient care. How have these findings changed your nursing practice? Please support your response with a minimum of two supporting peer reviewed articles.

The evidence based interventions we learn can improve patient’s outcomes, help provide quality care, reduce cost and eliminate practices that have become obsolete.
As part of the literature review, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Google Scholar, Cochrane, and EBSCOhost databases were used in the search for sources to be utilized in this DNP project. Evaluative criteria were used to determine quality, suitability, and coverage of selected articles. For instance, the aspect of
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduates function in the role of transferring the knowledge to practice. This article reports on the development of a DNP-level EBP course to help students evaluate and apply research findings to clinical practice. (Moore, E. R., & Watters, R., 2013). The DNP
I will methodically analyze all parts of the study to assess the validity of the article, by contrasting and comparing the information provided, with previous literature. I will try to make sure that recommendations provided by the authors are congruous with nursing practice and beneficial to the advancement of it. I will as much as possible provide in depth detail of previous studies on the same topic that either support or contradict the analysis provided by this study and its authors.

Literature Search Paper Research allows an individual to investigate a subject in order to discover facts and theories. The facts learned from the research are applied to his or her everyday use. There are various databases found that assists with research, however not all provide researched and scientific data. As a baccalaureateprepared nurse, it is critical to use a database that provides scientific data in means of articles and journals. The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Applied Health (CINAHL) is a comprehensive database search
Throughout the past ten weeks, I have grown in my understanding of nursing research on all levels. I feel that the most essential knowledge I have gained is the ability to critically review a research article. Because of this class, I have a better grasp on the necessary components to include, as well as how to determine rigor and validity in research. This is a valuable skill which I will utilize throughout my career as a nurse practitioner. I anticipate applying this knowledge as I review articles to determine which intervention is best to incorporate into management plans for my patients. As an example, if I am
