Ralph Lauren, born on the October 15, 1983 is an American fashion designer, highly known for his own fashion brand Ralph Lauren corporation. He is one of the most iconic famous figures in the world, both Lauren and his wife are huge supporters of various charities. The Pink Pony Campaign initiated by the designer raises money to battle cancer worldwide and aims to reduce inequalities in cancer care ensuring treatment is available at an early stage.
Before breaking into fashion, Lauren studied business science at the City University of New York. Eventually he dropped out two years after to participate and serve time in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. Thereafter, he briefly worked as a sales assistant for the Brooks Brothers and shortly afterwards became a salesman for a tie company. At 28 years of age, the designer’s corporation was born. Founded in 1967, The ralph lauren corporation emerged with selling mens ties. The designer has always been keen on sports, branding his first full menswear line “Polo”. During 1969, showcasing the designers line for the first time Bloomingdale store sold Lauren’s men line exclusively; making Lauren the first ever designer to have work being displayed at their own in store boutique. In 1971, Ralph Lauren introduced his womenswear label launching a line of tailored shirts for women. Introducing the Polo player emblem to the world for the first time, the women’s collection was launched the following year displaying the emblem on the shirts cuffs. Around 1973, Lauren designed costumes for many film productions such as “The Great Gatsby” and “Annie Hall”, His designs had a major influence on the way millions dressed.
