Like Mariachi, Ranchera is another traditional genre of music admired by the Mexican people but different in its own ways. Ranchera music is a well-known type of music from Mexico, with the name deriving from ranch lands on which the style was initially performed. Ranchera songs are categorized by intense sentiment and subjects of love dominate poetic lyrics. Sentimental ranchera singers, their voices charged with a contagious emotion, are often capable of moving to tears even their most hardened listeners. Waltz, polka and bolero inspired rhythms accompany the singer along with sudden cries of emotion that highlight the singer’s sorrowful mood. Ranchera is in fact a general label for different types of music. The genre has absorbed many specific

Good morning choir members, I pray all is well with each of you. As each of you know, Sister Kimberly Edwards decided it was best to step down as President of the Liberty Hill Choir. The church administrators set standards in which the next president must already achieve or have before he/she could become president of the choir. Some of those standards include:
On May 12 to May 13, 1865 the battle of the Palmito Ranch took place in Cameron County, Texas on the banks of the Rio Grande East of Brownsville. It was composed roughly of 900 soldiers, 500 from the Union and 300 from the Confederacy. Col. Theodore H. Barrett was the Union leader and Col. John Ford was the Confederate leader. While the battle of Palmito Ranch may have been the last battle of the Civil War it was a very unsettling battle.
Every empire has something that takes part in the citizens everyday life. For the Aztecs, there were key components, that were complete opposites. Both of the components helped them and led to success in their world. The Aztec empire was built between 1350 and 1519. Important everyday things for the Aztecs, the key components, were agriculture and human sacrifice. The question is which of thes, Agriculture or Human sacrifice, should be emphasized by historians the most. Agriculture should be emphasized for three important reasons. Mariachi is a lot more than just a band playing; it's a tradition that has been in Mexico for almost two centuries and is enriched with a huge history and deep meaning to for the Mexican culture. Mariachi music started in the nineteen century as a way for the common people of Mexico to find a way to express their ideas and feelings in which their ideas later become lyrics and their feelings become music. Mariachi music as we know it today results from the confluence of several different influences. It originated in the Mexican state of Jalisco, in the town of Cocula, in the 19th century. It was a way in which people were able to say what they were feeling in a new and unique way. From the music and lyrics to the dress attire and
The Spanish romance is a story song (ballad) in otosyllabic quatrain. An example of a Spanish romance is “Romance de Delgadina” which can also be heard in a corrido version (“Delgadina” by Lydia Mendoza). Like the Spanish romance, corridos are used to tell stories about historical people, places, and events in Mexico. In The Bracero Experience: Elitelore Versus Folklore, Maria Herrera-Sobek states “Mexican corridos or Mexican folksongs yields valuable information as to the ideology, world view, political, economic, and social situation of the Mexican people.” Some of the Mexican communities saw corridos as oral history, which communicated moral lessons and gave them a reason to be proud of their national identity. The history traveled to communities that did not have the opportunities to receive an education, and allowed them to understand what was going in their
I have chosen to write about one of my favorite alternative rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers from Los Angeles, California. My decision was based upon two things; one being I like the band, while the other was to learn if some of their music is sending the wrong message to our young people. I personally would not consider myself music sappy; never have I really been given a chance to listen to music as I grew up, to find what I like. As of today, I don’t know who sings what song nor really know what the lyric’s mean. With today’s environment young people are given a chance to be inspired by different kinds of media; thus giving them the opportunity to actually find out what the artist is meaning behind the songs. After interviewing four participation;
The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at birthday parties, quinceañeras, and any other social gathering. Over the years, African American Music has developed as not only as cultural but also artistic phenomenon affecting the world. The music takes its own stand of being dominant as well of having a prevailing means of expression through the use of the lyrics. The lyrics of many songs tend to use a specific type of language in order to create that connection between the listeners. This certain style of language helps the listeners to think on a deeper level about the real meaning behind the lyrics.
Flamenco is a form of Spanish folk music which originated in Andalusia in the south of the country. This type of music as we know it today is a spectacle which is made up for four different elements Cante-Voice, Baile-Dance, Toque-Guitar, and the Jaleo, which roughly translated means “hell raising” and involves hand clapping, foot stomping, and encouraging shouts of the audience ("Flamenco - History."). However it was not always like this. Flamenco was first recorded in the late 18th century and consisted of what the Spanish refer to as Palo Secos, or dry styles.("Flamenco - History."). This was basicly singing or chanting accompanied only by a rhythm beaten out on the floor by a wooden staff or cane. However the genre underwent a dramatic development in the late 19th century and had become the spectacle that we know today. In the past flamenco music was not very widespread outside the region of its origin. However in
