I’m interested in AFM 202 which is a course about tax. I went to the PwC information session this week and this session just came at such a great time. I talked to one of the co-op students who is now working for PwC tax department. Luckily, I got the opportunity to ask her some questions about her current co-op job in person. I asked her course selection in 2A and she chose AFM 202. She said the tax course introduced a world full of up-to-date tax rules and some valuable basic information about tax which are so helpful to her co-op job. She explained that AFM 202 had two parts which meant students were required to handle both two parts in order to achieve the cause goal. According to the information I got from the previous networking session,
Like you I too share your concern and reflection. At our January 26th, 2016 School Board Workshop our School Mental Health Team gave an in-depth review of the many mental health professionals and programs that are in place in our schools for our students, staff and families both in and outside of our schools. You can view the video of the meeting by visiting this link: http://livestream.com/citrusschools/events/4738040. In addition I am attaching the Workshop presentation materials that were presented during the meeting. I think you will find that Citrus Schools has and does put Mental Health of our students as a high priority. As you will see it is far more than simply referring students to a hotline. We have teams
In the summer of 2005 I had the opportunity to intern at The Franklin Institute Museum in PA. This museum is one of the many well known science museums across the country. The Franklin Institute Museum is a unique museum that gives the experience of exploring science in a fun and fascinating way. The museum touches bases on many areas of science such as, anatomy, physics, environmental sciences, and space. The Franklin Institute is named after Benjamin Franklin and is the home of his national memorial statue. It was founded in 1824 and its first building was established in 1825; since then its location has changed with in the city of Philadelphia but it still remains to be one
This movie, The Classroom, which was very interesting to watch, discusses all that goes on in the school system, the good and the bad. But it also shows how things at home can affect the way the student acts during the school day. This movie definitely makes you look at students that act out differently, instead of punishing them maybe we should all look deeper into the issue and find a way for the student to thrive and use school as an outlet.
My time spent in the Clinical setting, so far, has been extremely inciteful as to how to become a better educator in a classroom setting. Through the data I collected I was able to connect Borich’s Seven Variables of learning to the students. By being in the clinical setting for nearly two months, I have been exposed to new ways of thinking when it comes to structuring a classroom and instructing a classroom. Within this reflection you will find out how I would better plan an effective lesson for the pupils in my future classroom. You will also discover what I will do about certain issues in the classroom and how I will address/fix them.
After a hectic first semester at the community college, I began to find myself. I realized that the four-year university I wanted to attend initially, would have not been a good fit for me. Being part of different student organizations and creating connections with my professors at the community college is what helped me find what I was really looking for. I wanted a place where I felt like I mattered and not a school with fifty thousand students where I would just feel like a number. The additional semester I got to stay home, I was able to do more research and find a university where I would fit in and connect with.
The most recent collaborative experience I’ve been a part of was an entirely student-run production of Next to Normal at my school. After barely any cooperation from my school’s administration, the cast took it upon ourselves to raise the $3,000 required for rights, find a rehearsal space outside of school, and find independent ways to advertise. The environment in rehearsal was equally collaborative. Our two directors were students who were also in the show, both of whom very much respected and accepted our ideas and opinions about characters, blocking, and how to tackle the tough material the show focuses on. I learned through this experience that a, even if I do consider myself to be an incredibly open-minded person there is always room
By being part of the Proposition for the topic of, “Schools All Year Round” was a challenging experience which allowed me to learn lots of new things, and improve on some other. In this reflection, I will be stating skills that I learned by doing this debate, skills that I improved upon, and some skills that I wasn’t able to change. Although, in the future, I hope to progress in the ones I did poor on.
During the course of my field experience at Laster High School, I had the opportunity to discuss in great lengths about how to successfully collaborate with fellow teachers, respond to student issues, and gather data to effectively conduct assessment and teach within the classroom environment. At Laster High School, each teacher is given a planning and lunch period that allows them the opportunity to connect with others within their workspace and seek feedback over programs and requirements taking place in the school. In order to foster this collaborating environment that history department had one planning period as whole where they had the ability to meet and as a team discuses relevant issues and challenges they were facing throughout the
As a student at Illinois Valley Community College I have been involved in many organizations and groups. During my first year at IVCC I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as well as was named to the IVCC Presidential Honors list. Recently I was recognized at IVCC’s annual student academic honors banquet where I was recognized for having honor roll for two consecutive semesters while being enrolled fulltime. I was selected for several scholarships during my two years at this community college which has helped support my education as well take a burden off my family’s finances. Leadership positions that I have fulfilled is a student ambassador at Illinois Valley Community College. Every week I volunteer my time by working the front desk for an hour on Tuesdays.
During my time at Patrick Henry Community College I have had many ups, downs, and in-betweens. Looking back I thank God for each one of them because I have learned and grown so much since my first day here. In addition to that, I have met wonderful people, staff and students.
Over the course, I have grown and learned more than I thought possible about the Personal Income Tax. I came to this class already knowing the basic of VITA from past experience, but I wanted to learn more about Personal taxes; I had taken numerous courses to learn accounting and tax, but I am happy to say this class gives you a more personal view of the tax and how to affect every individual. Going through the program has taught me so much more than expected, it has taught me how helping others. I have learned here how to do self-employed individual and international student (F-1). The class and teacher help learn how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly, I have learned how important
I have been asked by Principal Smith to suggest ways in which teachers at our school might work more effectively together.
As seen above it is very important to establish a theme as a leader. While reading how to “Envision the Future” according to Kouzes and Posner (2012), “Every leader needs a theme, something on which he or she can structure the rest of their performance” (p. 106). The recurring theme and prominent message I want embedded in the culture of my school is a “Collaborative School Culture”. A culture that is collaborative is created through modifying and changing the behaviors as well as attitudes of the school community through various initiatives that will sustain new behaviors. These new behaviors will then become part of the culture. For example, Gruenert and Whitaker (2015), described how a principal can ask teachers to change and model certain
Collaboration in the world of education has become an increasingly popular method of addressing a variety of school issues, such as curriculum design, behavioral plans, professional development and management of resources. One of the areas in which collaboration is becoming more popular is co-teaching in special education, where special education teachers and general education teachers share the planning and instruction responsibilities for inclusion classrooms (Friend & Cook, 2010). As academic standards for the education of students with disabilities are held to the same standards as their typical peers due to the No Child Left Behind Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the co-teaching model has been increasingly
Going into college I thought I had everything figured out and knew exactly what I wanted to do with my major and how I was going to succeed with it. Now, I find myself going into week 3 of college with the thought of changing my whole plan of attack. I knew I wanted to change my major but wasn’t quite sure how to do so or even what to change it too. After attending The Business Kick-off event, all my questions were fully answered. By attending this event, I was able to fully understand the College of Business, discover the different areas it has to offer and how to successfully use everything that is offered to you.
