My learning styles Do I keep orderly notes? Am I good at memorizing lists, definitions, or math formulas easily? Maybe I am a hands-on person who doesn’t feel the need to read the instruction manual. On the other hand, I might be the one who is always ready to volunteer to give any presentations, and be the first to talk in class. According to the book, NEW BEGINNINGS A Reference Guide for Adult Learners, it is stressed that “Part of the process involves reflecting upon your own learning style, examining your strengths and weakness as a learner and responding to your needs when you create your plan for learning” (Simon 15). What is my learning style and how do I find it? When I was an adolescent, and began to have difficulties in school I had no clue that there were different types of learning styles. Reading, spelling, and handwriting came easily for me while math and science were daily struggles. If I could see it and write it I retained the information. By recognizing and understanding my own learning style I can use techniques better suited to me. This can improve my speed, help me make informed choices about my classes, and enhance my quality of learning. Knowing my own personal learning style will help me in my education. As a child school was often challenging for me, and I was learning at a slower pace than the other kids. Also, no matter how much I studied in math and science classes nothing made sense to me.
