Student discusses specific areas for improvement identified by both the student and the instructors and sets achievable goals.
Something I need to work on is taking initiative at the ICD. I tend to make the assumption that my lab partners and lab teacher have things under control. For example, when it is time for the children to wash their hands, I am almost always on the opposite side of the room. Because my partners and teacher are closer to the sinks, I usually assume that they do not need my help and I find something else to do. After speaking to my lab teacher, I now realize that I do not need to feel in the way or that I would ruffle any feathers by stepping in to help, even if I do not think that my help is needed. I need to take

I also try to use as much professionalism as possible. I have very little interactions with the parents of the children at the ICD but I always make sure they are positive and professional. I am also really impressed with myself at how I make interactions with all children. I am working on using positive teacher language as well as using open ended questions that reflect best practices. I make sure that during my time at the ICD I interact with all children equally. It may be easier to only interact with the loud or noticeable children but I think that I do a nice job of being aware of the quieter children too.
Student demonstrates the ability to be reflective in his/her practice and continually shape his/her philosophy. The main thing that has shaped my philosophy is learning about misbehaviors and mistaken behaviors. Misbehaviors cause teachers to judge students while mistaken behaviors encourage teachers to find out what is causing the child to behave that way. When teachers recognize mistaken behaviors and are able to digest the problem, they can give their student strategies to deal with the behavior or the teacher can better understand how to handle the situation. Either way, using understanding and background knowledge is key to know how to handle mistaken behaviors. Just like adults are taught not the judge a book by a cover, we as teachers should not
Reflection is a major factor in "developing self-awareness" to improve services provided to everyone around me, this is to develop my own understanding in realising the good and bad made previously. Moving forward with a better understanding, as well as rectifying the mistake whilst recognizing the good points, (Horton-Deutsch and Sherwood, 2008).
I do not recall learning about reflective practice in my undergraduate studies. Reflective practice according to Barbour (2013), “is the cyclic process of internally examining and exploring an issue of concern, triggered by an experience, which creates and clarifies meaning in terms of self, existing knowledge, and experience; resulting in a changed conceptual perceptive and practice” (p. 7). According to Barbour (2013), reflective process has many positive outcomes to help guide the nurse to become an expert nurse that can make on the spot decisions that do not interrupt patient care. I feel that reflective practice would have been beneficial to help guide me from a student nurse to a practicing nurse with critical thinking skills.
Successful teaching occurs when the teacher is able to select the most efficient method for reaching out to each student’s individual style of learning and inspire students to rise to their highest potential. While the responsibilities of a teacher are extensive (as one can serve as a teacher, a friend, a counselor, a disciplinarian, an entertainer, a facilitator), I believe that students should play a big part in shaping own education as well.
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the contribution of reflective practice for clinical nursing. Reflection has been defined as a way for individuals to “capture their experience, think about it, mull it over and evaluate” (Boud et al 1985: 19)
As we begin to wrap up this semester, I reflect on all the learning and achievements I have obtained thus far in the program. Throughout this semester, my communication and relational capacity has grown, driving me to break out of my comfort shell. At the beginning of this year I had wrote a letter to myself, outlining three goals that I wanted to achieve. The three goals were: work with a palliative client, become more assertive, and to integrate family care into my practice. I began the semester off in acute care, on the medical floor. During the second part of the semester, I was assigned to be in the first group of students to start the Trail Outreach Nursing. My new placement has created a new goal of increasing my communication
As I reflect at the end of the semester on my work throughout the semester, I see that I have improved as a writer. I feel like I have overcome my weakness and have turned them into strengths that can be used in my future courses. Over the semester I have worked on different types of papers and have used major and minor writing processes. I have also became more familiar with the APA writing format.
During my placement at Project Booyah, I found the 500 hours both a challenging and rewarding experience. Throughout my experience new knowledge and skills were gained as well as insight into looking at issues from a different perspective, ability to identify personal values clashes with organisational values and developing my self-awareness of these issues through critical reflection in which I found invaluable to my practice. Each of these areas will be discussed in more detail below, before discussing areas I have identified for further development.
Writing has always been one of my strengths, enabling me to freely express my creative thoughts in a controlled manner onto a piece of paper. Although my writing process takes a long time, I have complete power over the sentences and structures that I am weaving together to form a cohesive whole. Throughout High School, I was trained to write a structured essay in an ample amount of time by writing, editing, and finalizing my draft. Most of our work involved writing individual essays and research papers in which I developed a strong foundation in. However, I realized that I lacked experience in group work as well as oral communication in delivering my ideas to the audience. At the end of the semester, I noticed my transition from an
The story of Andre Trocme and the peoples of Le Chambon is a truly an inspiring given the fact that they helped harbor many Jews from being persecuted. They are truly inspiring because from a religious perspective they have lived a part of the Christian faith that many people never will and as result their story will probably be read to future generations of those who are seeking to live a more fulfilled Christian life. From this amazing yet dangerous story, I can regrettably say that I have never heard of these people or the actions they took to help harbor the dozens of lives of Jews. I think this is so because of several reasons including the very idea of religion not wanting to be taught by the
The purpose of this, my reflective essay, is to consider the journey I have taken to develop and create both the research story task and the story task. In the first task I was tasked to do an in-depth research on a topic that was trending or perceived as popular with a wide and varied audience. Accordingly, this would be a topic that could be seen to span a range of Social Media and established news sources. Then, in the second task, I was required to create a well-structured article based on the topic and crafted to meet the well-established journalistic standards of an established periodical, such as Time magazine. I now regret not adding an image to both support and establish the storyline. If
To be good at something, you must fail and learn from your mistakes. I know that writing essays is my weakest point when it comes to scholar work. I tend to want to finish my work as fast as possible with little to no revision. Additionally, because of the want to finish fast, my sentence structure is weak and most of the time it doesn’t make any sense. My writing is often vague since I just want to finish, so I get straight to the point and ignore adding any details to the main points I am covering. But because I have revised every essay I wrote I have seen an improvement in my own writing skills. Despite rushing all the essay, I wrote in WRC 1013 my writing skills have improved because I have revised every essay I have written and fixed
As I look back and reflect on all that I have learned from my experiences from Afro-Am 151, I realized that I have learned much more than I expected to. I thought that I would just be learning about the concepts of the course, but I also learned who I am as a person, and even changed some of the ways I look at the world we live in. Going to my placement site of Packer helped me to better understand the concepts we learned about in class, as well as my inner feelings about the concepts. I learned that I used to think about and view the world in a way that most Americans do today as well. The problem with this is that it is not the best way to go through life. Growing up, I lived in a mostly white town, so I didn’t really think much about
I had the opportunity to volunteer at Special Care Inc. two different times, giving me the chance to experience both a toddler classroom and a Pre-K 1 classroom. In each different setting, I was presented with incredible tactics and techniques for interesting the minds of students and contributing to their growth and learning as much as possible. I met two young boys- twins- in the toddler room whom, despite their so-called limitations, were so independent. Their loving personalities and seeming need for assistance presented me with first-hand answers to a major question I had coming in about where the kindness must end and the firmness must begin. I learned that you cannot allow misbehavior to occur no matter whom the child is or what they’re dealing with, because by allowing misbehavior you are hindering the student’s opportunity for progression and development. During my second experience at Special Care Inc., in the Pre-K 1 classroom setting, the presentation of a well thought out lesson plan taught me a valuable lesson in being an influential teacher. The lesson plan contained a central theme- a spaceship conducted by the students in the class that explored our galaxy- and many small lessons within that theme that catered to all different types of student
This assignment is a reflection on what I have learned over the past ten weeks, as I have almost completed my first semester and I have grown and learnt more than I thought possible. I will outline my area of expertise and how they have changed over this short period. I will discuss my current knowledge of the online environment and how it has advanced. I will demonstrate how being introduced to certain principles have given me a clear understanding of particular unit goals I would like to achieve, which will pave the pathway in completing my course goals. I will reflect on lessons learnt throughout this unit, and how they will help advance me throughout my degree and assist me in becoming a primary teacher.
