Online classes can be as hard as traditional college courses, sometimes even more so. The online student, however, has to be committed to the course to be successful.Evidence from three of my EN 1113 papers this semester suggests that I’ve made great progress in style, organization, and content. Reading through these papers, though, it’s clear I’m still working on improving knowledge of convention. In the beginning of the semester, I struggled with many aspects of writing, style is one of them. After going through 15 rigorous weeks of working on my literature skills, I believe that my style has improved immensely.A writer's style is what sets his or her writing apart and makes it unique.Word choice, sentence fluency, and the …show more content…
In that essay, the goal was to explain the effects of a cause of your topic OR the causes of an effect of your topic. The organization of this essay varied.Although it was great in some places of the essay , it needed work in other areas. The poorness of my organization shows in the claim, “The dreamers were brought to America as children and were taught in the same school systems as every other American. They are just as educated as us and that is all their parents wanted for them when they brought them to America. By taking the immigrants Trump is causing the dreamers to give up on their dreams and aspirations”.( para 3) If one were to read that statement, they would be confused due to the fact that it has a poor organization. The statement, “Trump’s administration went about ending DACA without following proper protocol, yet they still are enforcing the removal of the dreamers. This resulted in attorney Dulce Garcia and several other dreamers deciding that this is a matter for the court of law and filing a lawsuit against the repeal of DACA”(para 2) The final aspect of writing that I believe that I have progressed on is content. Content is both information and communication: the sum total of the freshness, readability, relevance, and
Throughout the course of freshmen year I have developed different skills and opinions on writing. I feel I have created a more mature style of writing and a better understanding of literature. I have changed my view of writing over this semester and acquired a strong liking for it. The importance of writing has become more visible throughout the past few months. Writing is crucial in many aspects of a person’s life. I have grown to be a more powerful and well built writer throughout this course.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.
I began writing with basic vocabulary and barely any sentence variety. As the year progressed, I learned to advance my vocabulary and word choice in addition to incorporating a diversity of sentence structure. Nearing the end of the school year, I acknowledge that I have grown and learned more about writing. I anticipate that I will receive even more arduous writing assignments that require more research and time. Although it will be challenging, I feel confident that I will do well because I feel well prepared from all I’ve done this year. As I grow older, I will have to continue to write. I know I can take the knowledge I’ve learned this year and apply it to future papers for years to
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
When I was younger, my mother created an organization to help others who are suffering
Here I stand on the brink of adulthood, a daunting place to exist. I peer over the edge and gaze into a chasm, bright but blurry. I am afraid. I am anxious. But I am hopeful. I am hopeful because I know that my past has defined me, but it is my future that will continue to mold me. As my years as a teenager draw to a close, I find myself reflecting on pivotal moments that taught me what it really means to be a good human being.
This course offers numerous opportunities to improve our writing. In this class, I not only enhanced the skills I already had, but also learned new writing concepts. Before I took this class, I knew that my writing is poor, and I have always wanted to improve it; however, I did not know how and what aspects of writing to improve. So, I came into this class with the ambition to improve my writing, and I have accomplished my goal although there is still room for improvement. At this point of this course, I have learned the elements that successful writing is composed of, and I am now able to categorize the various techniques that can work together to define strong
Writing presents it’s own challenges to those who write books and articles daily; and to those who write less frequently. Getting around using punctuation, placing commas, and figuring out how to start an essay always seemed to be the biggest challenges for me. Through practice is the only way I’ve come to be masterful over my own writing style, even though there is always room for improvement. Because each time someone sits down to write a letter, article, or book; they are practicing their writing style and ultimately becoming better writers. Many people find writing to be a hassle or too cumbersome in a day in age of technology and the internet supplying information to the public so immediate, but everyone must overcome challenges that they
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
A learner’s ability to communicate effectively through writing to his/her target audiences is a major prerequisite for academic success. It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I have been exposed to by my English teachers through different grades have helped me
Writing has been something that we have always had to do in school. My writing process and techniques have changed drastically since I have entered Writing 1310. When I first set foot into the classroom, I was a good writer, but I didn’t know format too well. As I went through the class, I improved on my writing skill, process, and format. In this paper, I am going to discuss my improvements in skill and my writing process, as well as the changes I have made throughout this course.
When I first decided to expand my education, it had been so long since I had been to school, and I was very hesitant. I talked at length about my decision with my husband and with his encouragement, decided to enroll but still was not quite sure which degree program to enroll in. I knew that this was something that I had always wanted to do since I obtained my Associates Degree in Nursing, but I did not have the courage, nor did I want to give up the time with my family and children. I second guessed my abilities and my knowledge because it had been so long since I had been in college. Now that my children are about to graduate high school and
This semester I was surprised by how much I actually learned and developed my writing skills. I was given the opportunity to learn the many steps that it is required to become a good writer. Writing requires a lot of work. It consists of various steps; prewriting, drafting, rewriting, proofreading and publishing. . All of these components are extremely important, and necessary, and will need to be follow to improve student’s writing.
Life. Four simple words that makes us. Life, I believe, is when you take a leap of faith or when you get to know who you actually are. Everyone is different in one way or another. They may like something that you may not like, or they might enjoy different ways of entertainment than you. Either way ignoring all of that all of these things make us who we are, it makes us human beings and it makes us. I know for a fact that I'm not like other people, I am very different and different in a wonderful way. In life and throughout you get to know who you actually are, you get to find out what makes you smile and what makes you sad. Thru the past fifteen years of my life I have learned many things about myself but there are still many more chapters in my life, but so far I learned many useful things that are gotten so far to where I am and hopefully to get me where I want.
People begin to change the priorities of certain aspects in their lives as they age. In late adulthood, people are keeping family and friendships closer than at other times in their lives. Friendships have a great impact in late adulthood mental health (Berk, 2010, p.473). One of the theories that focus in late adulthood is Erikson’s theory of development. It is a theory based on how people develop their identity in a series of stages from infancy to adulthood. The last stage in Erikson’s theory is called ego integrity versus despair. In this final stage, people look back on their past accomplishments in their lives to either accept their satisfaction in the past life or feel regret and despair on the goals they could have accomplished. The ones that succeed in this stage of life are satisfied with their accomplishments and they will feel that they’ve lived a well life. In this stage of life, people will go through different emotions ranging from peacefulness to loneliness. They will have to decide whether or not to rise above the conflicts that come with negative emotions.
