Reflective essay
Poverty has always been present in both rich and poor countries around the world. Vietnam is not an exception. Vietnam, the pearl of the East, shines beautifully with a charming culture and a long glorious history. However, hiding underneath that beauty, the present of poverty is still out there in the big cities as well as in the countryside. The longing war that Vietnam had been through with Mongolian, China, France, United States and the natural calamities have hurt this beautiful country mentally, physically and economically. My parents and I, as the “dragon and fairy descendants” as claimed in the Vietnamese myth, always give a hand in helping people that are out there suffering.

After everything was set up in the way it supposed to be, we took no rest but began with next step. Our group leader, Mr. Tuan, told us to go around and gather everyone to the stations that we set up earlier. Mr. Tuan was a tall, dark 30-year-old man. Since he had worked for the charity organization for more than 10 years, he definitely had much of experiences that we needed to learn from him. People slowly followed us to the stations to receive their supplies. However, there were some people could not even walk because of their wounds that they got during the typhoon. We provided some of our people to bring the supplies to them and take care of their wounds as well. The little happiness that was shown on their face gave us more power. We kept running around for eight hours straight in that freezing weather but none of us felt tired at all. We could do that because of the power of the smiles on their faces. We knew that we had done something meaningful in our lives.
After eight hours of running around, we finally got everyone took care of. Yet, that was not it. My father was a thoughtful type of person who I always admired. He rented a big house nearby, which was not destroyed by the typhoon, as a shelter for those unfortunate people. Looking at those people had a place to cover themselves, I felt like a hundred pounds of weight had taken off from my shoulders. The sun really rose
Explain how you were able to use your existing knowledge and competencies from many subjects to succeed in your task.
I wanted to improve my writing skills, make my writing pieces stronger, learn how to keep readers engaged in my writing pieces, and work on my MLA formatting coming into the class. When I took English 113, I discovered that MLA formatting was something that I needed to work on. There were certain elements of MLA formatting that I would forget to incorporate into my papers such as putting my last name in the right hand corner of my paper, not double spacing my header, and remembering to not underline nor bold the title of my papers.

The internship for Optimist International has turned out to be more than I could have ever expected. It all started with a bit of luck as I missed out on the initial internship that included assisting two managers that were in charge of an annual convention in New Orleans and an annual golf tournament located in Florida. Instead, I was tasked with assisting the convention director with the tasks leading up to the convention. As I settled into the internship the tasks quickly evolved in to a variety of tasks that covered a large number of aspects in the business world. In the beginning of the internship, it felt like I had to prove myself to the management involved, but as the internship moved on, I believe I gained more trust with the faculty and I began to get tasks associated directly with management. There was an onsite representative in New Orleans that was in charge of finding community service opportunities that members could participate in the buildup to convention. I was tasked with setting up the time and dates for an emergency kit assembly project for Save the Children and helping paint two rooms at a local culinary school for at-risk teens, called Café Hope. I was able to reach out to contacts with
Alcoholism and the addiction to any drug destroy lives, families and financial security. Growing up with an alcoholic as a parent not only tore my family apart to the point of divorce in 2013; but also left me as a financial insecure college student and a supporter for my younger sister through the years to come. Faced with the sudden tasks of paying for myself and raising my sister, I struggled to through the semesters trying to pay rent and be at home. Academically, I was disappointed in myself and knew I needed to make a change. Through many appointments through the success center, I became proactive to take control of the difficult situation I was in. Though I am still in this situation today, I have learned to time-manage and prioritize
I believe my writing has improved to a certain degree. As look, at where I first started. I have to say that, this course has really been a challenge for me. My time management has been completely off, however, I know that working on written assignments requires time. If there is something that I need to improve on, in order to further my writing abilities, it's definitely understanding the time is takes to write an essay, how to prepare and organized my assignments. I look at new ways now to organize my drafts, thoughts and the whole writing process itself. Brainstorming has definitely been beneficial as well as using bullet points to break down my essay. I notice that I tend to over write my paragraphs. A classmate of mine had suggested
Whilst on clinical placement, a male resident with dementia and I were sitting in his room within the nursing home for which he resided for the past two years. The resident was becoming anxious about his family, stating that they lived far away and he missed them. He showed me a card from one of his daughters she had sent for his birthday. As I was reading what she had written I became overwhelmed with empathetic emotion and wanted to cry due to her emotive words.
The writing process is always a critical piece when writing anything. I always like to start out with nice, old fashioned brain storming: thinking of possible positions on an issue and evidence to support each contention. After I decide on a position, I begin my research to find supporting evidence and will gather enough evidence for my case and, if necessary, enough counter-arguments to debunk in order to build a strong, well-reasoned paper.
In developing my reflective essay I have used two entries from my journal and also the effect the course becoming a teacher has had on me personally. The theme chosen after closely analyzing the course on a whole is ‘Learning and experience.’ Majority can relate to the slang; “we learn from our experience.”
Josh sets a professional academic tone for the rest of the class to follow. Despite starting the quarter off sick, Josh stayed on top of work and produced his strongest essay. He constructed this essay with very little guidance and help. He demonstrated a strong understanding of the standard five paragraph: topic sentence, lead into evidence, evidence, analysis, and conclusion. Josh is the most improved and one of the strongest writers in the entire school. Next year, I hope to see Josh gain confidence in his writing ability and continue to apply what he learned.

“I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.” (Carl Sandburg) Throughout the semester my english class had had a number of writing projects and also one design project. The first project was a paper on a time in our lives that had changed us or someone. Next, was a review on a how we felt about a movie, book, or tv series. The third paper was a article summary of a article in our field of study. The very last project the class was assigned was to design a poster for an event. The assignments that were assigned opened my eyes about myself as a writer. In this paper I will reflect on what I learned, my goals, and what I need to improve on.
and I found it really challenging. We were divided into 4 to 5 groups in the first seminar
Before I took my first college-level english course, I’d only had to do research for an essay on several occasions, and even then they weren’t even close to as long as the one I’ve written most recently. Up until now, all of my language arts classes were filled with things that I already knew, easy things that didn’t require me to change my writing style much, which likely explains why they were so boring. My approach to writing has changed throughout the process of taking an English 101 class.
The day was just beginning. All morning, I had been receiving messages that my hometown had become an island. There apparently was no way in and no way out. Residents were trapped in the flooded city of Beaumont. I was advised that maybe it would be best to try again the next day if water recedes.
