The last time I remember learning about astronomy formally was as far back as elementary school, where we learned about the basics of our solar system’s planets and other ideas about space commonly known by most people. Having never studied astronomy at a higher level, going into this class felt similar to traveling to a foreign country, or sailing in foreign waters, so to speak. Many of the concepts and facts have been things I have had little to no prior knowledge of. But regardless of any of that, I cannot express the importance of this area of study in my life. In the past I have read comments online, as well as heard things in real life, about how some subjects have no value in being studied unless one is majoring in them. While my major is not astronomy, much less even science, I still could not disagree more with this sort of thought. I can relate to some of the concepts of astronomy on a very deep and personal level, to the point where my psychological state is affected, and I will explain these thoughts in detail later. While these areas of great interest have not yet been covered in the course, I cannot say that I have not found all of the current topics fascinating. As one who has a deep interest in mathematics, I found a few of the concepts rather thought provoking, and I will again this later. I will lastly discuss what I thought of the material as a whole, what I got most out of it, and what my experiences were during and after learning it. Out of everything
Astronomy, is for me, why we are even here at all. As humans [and wizards], we owe our lives to discovering our own universe and beyond, it is our utmost dedication that we discover facts and information on everything around us. People have dedicated months, years, to discovering what truly makes us part of the universe, we have achieved and advanced so much just by studying our stars, our solar system and our neighbouring planets.
During the first millennium B.C. scientists realized that astronomy had to become more scientific. Middle Eastern and Chinese cultures started studying the Sun, stars and the planets more closely in an attempt to learn more about our position in the universe.. Star positions also became important tools in understanding directions, and helping with navigation. One philosopher stated in 434 B.C. that the Sun was a ball of fire 60 kilometres in diameter, hovering 6500 kilometres above Earth’s surface. Around 130 B.C., Ptolemy wrote Almagest, which was a huge collection of astronomical data which included mathematical models, information about eclipses, and planetary and stellar positions and movements. It remained a major go to book for astronomy for hundreds of years, and was not seriously challenged until Copernicus disputed the geocentric model of the solar system in the 1500’s
This unit does not introduce much new material. Instead, we expect you to integrate technical and theoretical knowledge acquired from study across your degree. We refer to two frameworks that may support you in carrying out this integration:
Astronomy is probably the most ancient natural science in the history of the world. It is the study of celestial objects, such as planets, moons, stars, galaxies, and comets; in terms of mathematics, psychics, and chemistry. Earlier civilization studied astronomy by observations, whereas, now the focus is more on the physics and chemistry of the celestial bodies.
Pursuant to California Vehicle Code (40902), I plead not guilty by Trial by Written Declaration of the charges of CVC 22349 (b). I have paid the fine of $352 and have attached the receipt to the case as instructed.
Why-the question that comes firstly in my mind every morning and way to find myself. Once my mom told me that when I was only four, I asked her why the stars exist in the sky? , what is beyond our world? , why are we here in the world? Although, she didn’t know the answers, she was amazed; she thought that I’m somewhat prodigy. I grew taller and taller passing year by year; but nothing SPECIAL-unlike Einstein, whose IQ is 190, unlike William James Sidis who attended university at age of 11, unlike Kieron Williamson who exhibited professional paintings at age of 7 and unlike any prodigy. Therefore, my expectation to prove mom’s hope was to win competitions, award prizes, always be the first and never to lose. That was my absolute answer to the
This essay is a reflective essay on my learning development from a young age through to my current position as a University Student. I will be relating my learning development back to two theories of human development, Vygotstsky’s socio-cultural theory and Marcia’s version of Erikson’s theory of identity development. I will identify and discuss the challenge I have faced with my identity and how this has impacted on my development.
Vital signs are a fundamental component of nursing care and indicate the body’s ability to maintain blood flow, regulate temperature and regulate oxygenate the body tissue. Taking vital signs are essential in revealing any sudden changes in the body, which could potentially indicate clinical deterioration of the patient.
Astronomy is the science of everything which can be included in the too small a term for such huge a thing called Universe.Astronomy has always fascinated me as a child and even now.I can remember many a day when I , a small little 6 year old, would stare into the starry sky and wonder what lies beyond the skies. Back then though I would make small childish stories about what I thought would be on the moon and all the stars. Now through these Astronomy lessons I can learn about everything I wondered about gazing into the stars as a little child.
The galaxies and space have been around for thousands and thousands of years, with our own galaxy and solar system only existing for a fraction of that amount of time. Scientists have been fascinated with researching space, the various galaxies, and planets in the solar system to try to understand their complex nature and forms. Certain scientists will gather their research by joining professional institutions that work towards the goal of uncovering and exploring the universe’s secrets. These institutions and scientists conduct their research in a variety of ways, such as sending robots they built to different planets in order to study what the planet’s materials are made out of and what types of weather patterns happen on the different planets. Other scientists can choose a different path where they use their own means to conduct their research, like working in their own private labs or renting equipment to use for the purpose of studying their exact field of scientific interest. Then there are people who didn’t go to school to get an educational degree specializing in science, but have an intense fascination with certain
This is a reflective essay based on a event which took place in a hospital setting. The aim of this essay is to explore how members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) worked together and communicate with each other to achieve the best patients outcome.
The Hubble Space Telescope is one of the most amazing machines in orbit right now. In 1946, an astrophysicist named Dr. Lyman Spitzer proposed that a telescope in space would reveal better and clearer images that are even far from earth than any ground telescope. This idea was very extravagant because no one had yet launched a rocket into outer space. As the US space program excelled quickly over the early years, Spitzer lobbied NASA and Congress to develop a space telescope. In 1975, the European Space Agency and NASA began to develop the telescope that would change astronomy for ever. In 1977, Congress approved funding for the development of the space telescope and NASA named Lockheed Martin Aerospace Company as the prime contractor
I have always had an interest in science, especially in the sciences regarding outer space. When I was younger I was always fascinated with rockets, and especially in stars. I have often regretted not pursuing this interest at its infancy. I do remember going to the Planetarium, and studying about a topic that I had seen talked about on television. The topic was black holes, and back then all that they knew was that they were black. The idea of a space in the universe that is completely void of light was difficult to imagine. Recently, I have learned more about this topic and a science call cosmology. I had never even heard of this field of science before I was introduced to a scientist by the name of
Astronomy is the oldest of the natural sciences, dating back to antiquity, with its origins in the religious, mythological, and astrological practices of pre-history: vestiges of these are still found in astrology, a discipline long interwoven with public and governmental astronomy, and not completely disentangled from it until a few centuries ago in the Western World . In some cultures astronomical data was used for astrological prognostication.
The aim of the reflective essay is to highlight my own personal development skills that I have developed during first semester of my module. However, in this report I will make sure my learning ability phase and what this module has allowed me to work and understand in improving my personal skills and purpose. My major aim is to develop and assess an in depth range of my personal traits as a student in order to endorse my future development plan.
