What is art? When faced with such a question we are left in a state of confusion; the answer is perhaps too elaborate or too obvious. Personally, art is a way of escaping my own mind and entering a brand new world inspired by the surroundings of the artist and their perceptions of life. It helps us appreciate things which have been disassociated from glamour by society. Art can also be considered as propaganda and motivates us to protest things we believe in as well as it being a constant support of encouragement and celebrating deep emotion. While portraying beautiful sceneries and wonders of the world, art opens our eyes to things which are less analysed. I am particularly interested in post-impressionism and how artists began concentrating on their emotions rather than just depicting simple symbolisms. In my first year of studying history of art I focused a partial amount of my course work on Latin American art which is the outcome of my strong interest for the Spanish language as well as culture. …show more content…

Having grownup in two different countries and being fortunate enough of being exposed to different cultures and languages, I feel as though I have gained a good amount of background into the heritage and arts of each country as well as an eager interest of other cultures, which I feel can truly benefit me throughout the course. As a result, I feel as though history of art will feed my curiosity as well as provide me with more knowledge of art, as I turn my passion into a career. In my spare time, I frequently attend exhibitions in various London galleries which have included Marlene Dumas at the Tate, Human Rights Human Wrongs at the Photographer’s Gallery and Egon Shiele: The Radical Nude at the Courtauld
