Life satisfaction – big word! The two words’ meaning differ from each and every person depending on what that person believes is the most important in life - his priority. Life satisfaction is an overall assessment of feelings and attitudes about one's life at a particular point in time ranging from negative to positive. It is one of three major indicators of well-being: life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect (Diener, 1984). According to Wikipedia, Life Satisfaction is the way a person evaluates his or her life and how he or she feels about where it is going in the future. It is a measure of well-being and may be assessed in terms of mood, satisfaction with relations with others and with achieved goals, self-concepts, and self-perceived ability to cope with daily life. It is having a favorable attitude of one's life as a whole rather than an assessment of current feelings. Life satisfaction has been measured in relation to economic standing, amount of education, experiences, and residence, as well as many other topics. There are two kinds of emotions that may influence how people perceive their lives. Hope and optimism both consist of cognitive processes that are usually oriented towards the reaching of goals and the perception of those goals (Bailey, 2007)
The pursuit of happiness is an endless journey that we all experience during our lifetime. This search for satisfaction in life is made up of actions and choices that we make to benefit our lives for the better, even if done subconsciously. Many people try to end this lifelong journey short by reaching a practically unachievable “true happiness”, and some even get so caught up in trying to reach this ultimate fulfillment in life, that they begin to forget about the great things currently in their lives because they spend so much time and energy focusing on what they want rather than what they have. Life is about enjoying living in the moment, because it only happens once.

As Myers, Willse, and Villalba (2011) point out, wellness is an important factor and focusing on students’ strengths can support other areas of well-being. Learning to survive is more important today than ever before. Nothing is stable anymore, the economy is in ruins. Countries are collapsing faster than souffles baking on a freight train. Jobs are becoming scarce and food shortages may become realty. Now is the best time to learn how to become self sufficient or at least, at the very minimum, how to save your own skin in an emergency. To survive you need to have the right skills, you need good survival gear, you need to maintain a stable optimistic frame of mind, and having a little luck can't hurt.
