Prompt: Think about a crisis that occurred with a specific organization in the past couple of years. In your response paper, provide a brief (half page) summary of the crisis and organization. Then, using concepts from class, analyze the organization’s response to the crisis through social media. How did they use social media to address the crisis? Lastly, in your response, share whether or not you think the organization succeeded in addressing the crisis. Be critical and detailed in your response. I am a pet owner and animal lover extraordinaire, and I also work at two companies that sell pet foods/toys/treats, etc. I am extremely nit-picky about what exactly my animals are eating; thus, I chose the massive 2013 pet food recalls due to Salmonella from Natura Pet, a company owned by the enormous umbrella corporation Proctor & Gamble, and that carries three brands of pet food: Innova, EVO, and California Naturals. I focused specifically on the Innova and EVO labels, because once upon a time, I used to feed my animals these brands. In 2013, Natura had a major and on-going food recall situation spanning from March to June (P&G’s other dog food brands also had recalls in March, as well as in August of the same year.) Innova and EVO labelled the recall as “voluntary,” and after I scoured their Twitter and Facebook accounts, I found this interesting, because it seems to me like the company knew about the problem before they publicly announced the recall; I will elaborate
Crisis communication is the most important aspect of external and internal organization communication. This type of communication ranges from image restoration campaigns to employee turnover. In the articles that I have analyzed, I discovered many examples of crisis communications and its importance. I will discuss the Bridgestone-Firestone Corporation's image restoration campaign and explain Benoit's theory of image restoration. Also, I will discuss how crisis communications fits into public relations models. Two examples for discussion will be how supervisors should convey bad-news to their employees, and group communication within employee turnover. My last example for this discussion will be Bill Clinton's image repair discourse.
From the analysis, the crisis arose from a series of biased or irrational individual and organizational behaviors. To avoid the catastrophic effect, each individual and organization must change their behaviors.
As this was Keller’s first audit on a dog Foods company, additional research was conducted to gain insight on some the most common risks that occur in the dog Foods industry. The audit team also went to visit the client prior to the audit to gain a clear understanding on how their business works. The audit team consisted of the audit manager Pete, and two audit staffers Maureen and Ben.
“Social media makes the community part of the actual crisis communication response. For example…Twitter was used to quickly share initial information and updates during the 2007 and 2008 California wildfires, 2008 Mumbai massacre, 2009 crash of US Airways Flight 1549, 2010 Haiti earthquake, and 2011 Tunisian uprising.” This information, again in Veil’s 2011 article, reinforces the idea of how social media communication is highly beneficial and furthers an individual’s ability to remain informed on current events.

Organizational behavior plays a vital role in the success of an institution. It is essential for a leader to be knowledgeable on organizational behavior and how to manage conflict. Often times, conflict arises from the absence of or poor communication. Social media has become one of the leading means of communication.
Kevin Kowalcyk, born in December 1998, was a very happy and healthy child. When Kevin turned two his family went vacation, which took them from New Jersey all the way up to Maine. A few weeks after they returned home, Kevin woke up very sick with blood in his bed. They had found he came in contact with E.coli His mom, Barbara Kowalcyk, wrote the story about what happened to her son on The Center of Food Born Illness’s website. She states, twelve days later, Kevin’s kidneys failed and he passed away. They soon realized the meat they ate at a restaurant was recalled, but the restaurant still continued to serve it. Kevin’s dad and sister also got Ecoli poisoning, but did not get affected anywhere close to the way Kevin did (Kowalcyk). You would think with three cases of Ecoli, the local and state health departments would have launched a thorough investigation, but they did not. Nothing was changed because a child died. The family did not even get an apology. Sadly, the industry was more protected than
Supposedly responsible for regulating food consumption and health standards, the USDA and FDA set forth criteria that food processing companies must abide by to successfully keep food safe for consumers. However, I feel as though these government organizations, in combination with greedy corporations, are failing at their jobs, leaving consumers to fend for themselves in food safety. For this exact reason, we, as a society, deserve the right to know what is in our food; our daily nourishment is simply not something meant to be feared or questioned. Food labeling and daily advertising are essential tools that aid in avoiding such horror, providing even slightly more insight to purchasers. Information provided through these tactics should be honest, approved, and reliable, requested by the consumer upon desire for making wise decisions; major corporate businesses, in no way, shape, or form, should be granted permission to decide what types of information should be disclosed, as their secretive nature could possibly interfere with this aspect of food safety greatly. Similar to how everyone deserves to be informed of the nourishment they are providing themselves, I also believe that access to healthy food should be available to everyone, making it a basic right. As long as people are willing to work and process the healthy food we eat, they also should be able to partake. Overall, my opinions and beliefs on the food industry will never be what they once were; they will forever be distorted by the lucrative, profit-seeking motives guiding major food corporations across the
Central Idea: Social media has taken the world by storm and there have been many disadvantages that these applications have brought along with them.
In the business environment or the workplace, social media continues to impact on business performance as well as organizational capabilities. On the other hand, it is
1) What are the potential advantages and disadvantages for an organization when using social media?
Understanding the impact social media has had on the business world is particularly important for the younger generation, those teenagers and twenty-somethings who are most likely to post something that may come back to haunt them in years to come. As college students, we must realize that our future can be made or broken by something we consider trivial. For all those concerned with their professional reputation, responsible use of all social media is imperative. In the opinions
According to Gregory (2000:62), there are several different research techniques which include quantitative research, qualitative research, mixed research and tracking research. Based on the difference between information collections, it can be also divided into primary research and secondary research (Gregory, 2000:63). Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as the research method for gathering data, where the focus is on how the company makes use of social media during the crisis and the uses responding. The primary and secondary research will be used in the dissertation. The content analysis began with finding the relevant data statistics directly on Dominos and Malaysia’s social media platform. Moreover, we will collect some data from some journal articles
