Responsibilities Of Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education is a branch of our education system in which grades kindergarten through sixth grade are taught core subjects. These subjects include English, math, history, and science. “Early childhood education is a broad term used to describe any type of educational program that serves children in their preschool years, before they are old enough to enter kindergarten. Early childhood education may consist of any number of activities and experiences designed to aid in the cognitive and social development of preschoolers before they enter elementary school” (Early Education teaching). To be a kindergarten teacher, one would have to earn a bachelor’s degree, complete a teacher preparation program in elementary education and be certified through the state. After obtaining licensure, an individual may apply for National Board Certification, which will result in a raise in salary, and make them more desirable to districts for hire. A career is an “occupation undertaken for a significant period for progress” (Webster’s Dictionary). The responsibilities of an elementary teacher range from preparing lesson plans and maintaining discipline in the classroom to analyzing student progress. To achieve greatness as an elementary teacher one should possess an innate “passion for teaching, love for kids, work ethic that will not quit, and a willingness to change” (Strauss 1).
