Rhetorical Strategies For Technical Communication

I believe that mastering rhetoric is essential for the daily life. We are constantly talking and debating, always trying to persuade people. And it requires some factors, such as being connect with the person you are convincing and how the person perceives your message as well. I would say that rhetoric is a style of an argument that is filled of language devices that one can use in order to persuade his or her audience. I have learned that rhetoric is something I use constantly in my everyday life. All around us there are several different communities of people. College communities, people with similar interests, gamers and several more. Another word for these groups is a discourse community. A discourse community is a group of people whom have a common goal and/ or have similar interests. Everywhere you go, there are different discourse communities. In the article, “Computer Science salaries rise with demand for new graduates,” by Ann Bednarz, she talks about how technology graduates are needed more than ever, how marketing how become needy for technology and how one job can be done by several different technology majors. Bednarz’ article can be applied to a computer science student’s journey. Computer science students are slowly integrating into the business world and in a good position. We are needed by many different kinds of businesses. These graduates are working to make their profile look more attractive. Us graduates are entering a new community and will work our hardest to fit in and become part of the ‘team.’ College is the transition from high school and relying on our parents, to growing up and having to rely on ourselves and become responsible adult, individuals.

A common joke within engineering is that engineers need a meeting to plan a meeting, this is only overshadowed by the endless cycle pictured to the right. When writing these very “necessary” emails, engineers need to balance their highly specialized language with understandable concepts a non-engineer would understand and comprehend. As a freshman at the University of Maryland, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. I formerly attended the Academy of Health Sciences at Prince George’s Community College, a dual enrollment program in which I graduated with my High school diploma and an Associates of Arts degree in General Studies. Having a unique experience by attending these different school has allowed me to become familiar with technical communication in a multitude of ways, whether it is in the work place or school related. Being vice president of the national honor society, being a barista at Peet’s coffee shop, and with being fluent in multiple languages I have used technical communication to encourage people to “take action” in a multitude of ways. Whether it was influencing people to join the national honors society or trying to get customers to buy a new coffee drink, I have consistently been able to encourage others to “take action” with whatever it may be. Over time I have learned the do’s and don’ts of being a technical communicator, and I now understand what must be done to accomplish a task through technical communication.

This report explores the three genres of communication within the major of veterinary technology. Its purpose is to inform individuals about how these specific genres are present in this field. Methods, results, discussion and conclusions are discussed. To research these three genres of communication several sources were required. I initiated my researching with internet searches to find more information to support why these three genres of communication are the most significant in the field of veterinary technology.

Throughout this semester I’ve been able to grow as a writer, I’ve come to understand how rhetorical strategies come into contribution when it comes to expressing yourself as a writer. One thing that has come perfectly clear to me is that there is different forms of writing and each form can express and show different meanings.

This paper is about the understanding of the Rhetorical Structures as they pertain to audience, purpose, and context and how they affect the argument of whether taxes should be raised on higher income brackets in order to fund social programs for at-risk and underserved, low income children. I will discuss the relationship between the audience, purpose, and context to the context of the argument.

Rhetoric is a course in which students are taught the values of persuasion. And yet, behind this course is the utmost power to corrupt the world, changing it into a world of our own policies. This power, even though seldom discussed, has lead to many intriguing discoveries. One such discovery is how people are able to shape the world they live in simply by choosing the right words. A single definition of rhetoric must maintain a simplistic nature while incorporating every aspect of rhetoric. However, I argue that rhetoric is a means of persuading audiences of a situation and a particular reality through language and personal appeal. In order to prove this definition I will discuss how rhetoric creates a situation, the shaping of a different reality, the audience, the use of language, and the personal appeal. Finally, I will demonstrate the absolute need for rhetoric.

The science of persuasion is a well researched study that is used to persuade people 's ideas, agenda 's, and thought process by using psychological tactics that have been shown to alter people 's judgement. Everyone has at one point either performed this method, or have been the recipient. These persuasion techniques can be used to our advantage into manipulating people 's behavior using certain words, use of appearance, offering kindness to benefit ourselves later on. The video has demonstrated six shortcuts used in everyday life to persuade people into conforming with our way of thinking or our scheme. I have without a doubt participated in the shortcut of reciprocity, seen first hand scarcity at it 's finest, and have followed authority based on merit.
