The Kiss, as was named by the public, was created by Auguste Rodin. He created this sculpture between 1888 and 1898. The sculpture is categorized as a ‘sculpture-in-the-round’, simply due to the free standing aspect of the artwork. It also allows for the audience to walk around it and view it from various angles, which also allows it to be named a ‘sculpture-in-the-round’. Auguste Rodin captures the moments that two lovers find their passion and lover for one another and attempt to kiss for the very first time. It depicts two lovers mid-kiss, also touching intimately. The two lovers are perched among a rough jagged rock and both of them are completely nude. “The Kiss originally represented Paolo and Francesca, two characters borrowed, once
The style of this sculpture falls under impressionism. The dimensions are ( 113x 57.8 x 40.5 cm). This particular sculpture was actually entered in a competition that was intended to design a monument that was meant to honor and salute the heroes of Paris who took part in the Defense of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War, although Rodin did no win the contest this monument was still able to be installed in Verdun in the 19th century to show appreciation to the French soldiers of World War I. When you look closely at this sculpture you will see a female who has wings and to me this symbolizes an angel, she is over top of a warrior of some sort who seems hurt or wounded, possibly dead. This female may be his guardian angel or something. The lady with wings seems to be screaming because her mouth is wide open , I am not sure if this is a cry for help or a rejoicing moment.
The marble used to create the sculpture brings out the fine quality of such material. It also adds elegance and sensuous grace to the whole sculpture. The use of marble links the sculpture to the radiance and softness of the female skin. The hips of the
The Norton Simon Museum is a museum for everyone to visit and enjoy the great artworks. Besides, it’s also a great environment to spent you’re day in its café that it’s by the garden of the museum. The artwork that really grabbed my attention was the Alcibiades on His Knees Before His Mistress, by Louis Jean Francois Lagrene from the Norton Simon Museum. I chose this particular artwork because it’s interesting that how the artist depicted the gender role by giving each gender a unique appearance. Besides, the artist also depicts the formal elements by depicting the texture of the fabric, and use of smooth and rough lines to create the painting more attention grabbing. This painting would be a good comparison with Jacques- Louis David, Oat of the Horatii, France, 1784 from the text because the painting’s context, content, and history are similar to each
With the sculpture straight ahead, the audience sees a profile view of the scene; however, the artist created the sculpture with enough space and depth to be able to view the front of the woman’s face from a side angle. The artist created the seated woman with much detail; her nose, chin, slightly opened mouth, pronounced brow line and inset eyes show this. She reaches for the chest with her right arm in a very delicate manner as her left arm lays on the throne for support.
This sculpture was one of Mene’s most famous pieces of art work. This sculpture was first put out for viewers to see in the Paris Salon in 1952. The public went nuts over this sculpture, later this sculpture was made in three different sizes. The sculpture in my presentation is the smallest one made and is considered a miniature. In this sculpture both horses are stallions, whereas in the original sculpture it showed a mare and a stallion. Still to this day this piece of artwork is very popular in demand.
The primary medium of sculpturing the Torch of Friendship is enameled iron and stands in the middle of Losoya intersection on a traffic rotary, an area famous for international tourists. The two posts of the sculpture rise at angles that are non-parallel. The posts curl and twist individually and meet at the highest point. The sculpture is constantly lit with distinct light patterns and varying colors at different times of the year. Although the statue seems geometrical, it does not form right angles. The sculpture is surrounded by diverse angles that make it appear to have different marble joint together. Due to the location the sculpture, its base is
I can only tell by body language that they want to spread heroism between men and women. The use of marble links the sculpture to the glow and smoothness of the male skin. In this sculpture, it appears to be characterized by imagery aimed at the sense of the marble statue. The standing sculpture appears to be relaxed, while the median line makes an angle. While standing upright, the figure’s feet are place in a certain way that brings a shifting effect or movement and a stable poise.

“That is what I have heard in the legends I grew up with, I tease ye not.” He laughed at her as she rolled her eyes at him.
While the LOVE sculpture is in fact a sculpture, it actually originated as a print image for the Museum of Modern Art Christmas card in 1964. Shortly after it became a popular postage stamp, while finally becoming a sculpture in 1970. The idea behind this work of art originated when the Museum of Modern Art asked Indiana to design a Christmas card. He reflected upon his nomadic childhood, remembering posters he had frequently seen at a Christian Science churches with the words “God is love (Robert Indiana Works.)” He took this concept of love and stacked the LO on top of the VE in red, green, and blue, and added further interest by tilting the O. While this became a popular icon in the United States and beyond, Indiana refused to copyright his famous image and variations of it. Since this image was being rapidly reproduced by the public, many people incorrectly labeled Indiana as a sell out, even though he made very little money from his famous LOVE sculpture (Wilde.) Robert Indiana, birth name Robert Clark, was born in New Castle, Indiana in 1928. Being praised for his artwork by his elementary school teacher is what motivated him to pursue the career of art, leading him to join the Airforce for three years and after attend the Art Institute of Chicago, the Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting in Maine, and the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland (Biography Robert Indiana.) His art gained popularity upon living in New York and many works of art featured at
Script: This sculpture made with marble by Timotheos. A distinguish pose of Leda’s lifting left hand making the art piece different from the other. The cause of her pose is to protect the swan from eagle, a transformation of Aphrodite. The scene depicted is unfound in the mythology based on Edith
These two paintings created in different time periods and different parts of the world have more in common than one might imagine. “The Kiss” was acclaimed as a masterpiece when it was first displayed in Paris, France in 1877, and today it is one of the most well-known pieces of sculpture. Rodin managed to create a
The image being discussed now is one that was created by Jan Vermeer and is called The Love Letter. Jan Vermeer only created a small handful of works of art 35 in total (authors). However, his works are works of contemporary and old works, and together they create amazing works of art. Jan Vermeer worked as an art dealer and this may have given Vermeer the tools to create works of art form contemporary and old style paintings that he may have sold and purchased as an art dealer. This painting was created in 1669, and Vermeer used oil on canvas. This painting right now is currently located at Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam (website). Vermeer’s signature on his works is the use of a single window with the light pouring in and shining on the human
From my observation at the Met, this sculpture is inside a medium glass and space. Also, it is by itself in the glass. It is a three-dimensional sculpture created by modeling and merging hard materials. Next to it there are other deities (Vishnu, Parvati, Ganesh etc.) and sculptors from the Chola Dynasty. The other works near it complements the sculpture as I have stated above they are from the same time period so, they are related to each other some way and
The Kiss is a work that was painted by the Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt, between the years 1907 and 1908. Klimt utilizes his personal experiences and life changes as his inspiration for the creation of perhaps his most famous work yet. He links modernity and eroticism at the center of his work, the couple’s embrace. This embrace is a quintessential expression of one of the deepest passions known to mankind, sensual love. Klimt’s color choices, use of depth, line, and balance, are all techniques that contribute to the message he is trying to convey. This couple’s love radiates passion at its strongest, the love between man and woman, and the disconnect from reality they experience as they embrace.
