In my current job at Wellco Tank Trucks, Inc., we do not use any type of databases in the daily operations of our business. My only job that involved regular use of a database was at Chilcutt Direct Marketing (CDM) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From February 2003 to June 2004, I was an Account Executive of Brokerage at CDM. CDM is a direct marketing company that manages and brokers customer mailing lists for companies across the United States.

A database is used to store collections of information and easily retrieved at a later date. The larger the amount of information, the more organized a database needs to be. A database is created with the requirements and needs of current and future users and most importantly, with past users and their information. Out book defines database systems as “an organization of components that define and regulate the collection, storage, management, and use of data within a database environment”. (Database Systems, 2013)

A database is defined as "an organised collection of data items which may be accessed by a database management system. The database may consist of several linked files". The school database will consist of a number of tables that hold information on students and related material.

Information security is a condition in which the risks to the security objectives of confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and information technology are reduced by adequate measures to an acceptable level. Information security includes not only the security of IT systems and the data stored in the security of not electronically processed and stored data and information.

Determining Databases and Data Communication is important because it allows me to manage data and query, store information, and has proven to be a essential component in day-today business.

In order for a database to be truly functional, it must not only store large amounts of record, but also be able to access those records fast and efficiently. In addition, new information and changes should also be easy to input.” (tech-faq.com) To be useful over a long term the database should be able to store all the records necessary for the business to function as well as be able to get all of this information back in case of a system failure or a crash. If all the information is loss a business could go bankrupt so the database is a fail

The term database system is used in encapsulating the constructs of a database Management system (DBMS), data model as well as database. And a database is described as an organized pool of logically-related data. There are issues related to database system such as security, legal, ethical and privacy issues.

Due to the rapid increase in technology development, most organizations use databases as a way of recording and keeping their information. In the past, managers would record and enter data manually to the systems. However, there are some organizations that still rely in gathering information and feeding them manually to the systems while maintaining some soft copies and files that are stored according to each department.
