Run Lola's Man Context

The paper I decided to do was on “Schindler’s List”. I have seen this movie four times and yet had not really noticed the many ways in which the director, Steven Spielberg, used the camera to emphasis a “million words”. It was interesting, when watching this film from this stand point, how I was able to see the importance of the way the director uses sounds and color to make some much significant points of a film.

Raymond’s Run is a short story written by Toni Bambara Cade in 1960. The story is about a girl named Hazel, and her brother Raymond who is “not quite right”. Hazel loves running and she is always first in competitions. She is always looking out for Raymond and takes him with her when she is practicing, and also to the May Day race where Raymond starts running in his own unique style which changes Hazel’s view on Raymond, herself and the people around her.

There are many different elements of film that filmmakers can utilize to make a film. Direction, storyline, cinematography, mise en scene, as well as point of view and tone can all lend a hand in making a film great. One might say that the most important aspect of a film is the script. Others might argue the actors are the most important part. However, an impressive balance of all of the different elements of film are what can elevate a film to greatness. That is why the best film viewed this semester is Night of the Living Dead.

Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment.

In the film ‘Run Lola Run’ the composer, Tom Tykwer, uses the story line to emphasize how decisions made by an individual can have a drastic impact on the lives and futures of those around them. Tykwer utilised distinctively visual techniques of photographic montage and repeated yet slightly altered scenarios in order to show the importance of Lola’s decisions throughout each run of the film scenario. The use of the repeated scenario, along with the rapidly shown still photographic representations of the future in regards to people effected by the character Lola’s decisions the composer is able to put emphasis on the chain reaction of effects based on Lola’s actions. Movies are not the only types of entertainment that incorporates genre; stories, music, flyers, tweets on twitter, and much more also do too. When applying a genre to ones form of expression, we can look at all aspects of the piece and analyze, analyzing is crucial in today’s society

Run Lola Run' by Tom Tykwer is a stunning film incorporating an array of distinctively visual features. Distinctively visual texts are designed to manipulate the way we explore the images we see and affects the way we make interpretations of the experiences we encounter in the world. The distinctively visuals represented Tykwer’s film, is significantly strong as unique images dominate the screen to create a thrilling and suspenseful film. The story is told through images, symbols and motifs as there is a noticeably limited amount of dialogue. "I always start with an image" as quoted by Tykwer emphasising his unique ways of depicting his ideas.

    Film and literature are two media forms that are so closely related, that we often forget there is a distinction between them. We often just view the movie as an extension of the book because most movies are based on novels or short stories. Because we are accustomed to this sequence of production, first the novel, then the motion picture, we often find ourselves making value judgments about a movie, based upon our feelings on the novel. It is this overlapping of the creative processes that prevents us from seeing movies as distinct and separate art forms from the novels they are based on.

Run Lola Run (1998), directed by Tom Tykwer, is an intense, fast paced action film with a rather simplistic plot and unexpectedly deeper philosophical implications about fate, chance, time, choice, and consequence. Not a second in this movie is boring as it is as high paced as the title implies, both physically and mentally straining.

The producers will develop a test and the audience will tell the producers whether it is something they want to see or they are not going to see. This can affect the next text to be produced in an attempt to conform to the audience demands. Looking at the development of different types of genres and the development of films within the same genre, it’s possible to look at similarities and differences and identify changes in society and audience ideologies and tastes.

One of the scholar Swales (1990) stand firmly that the defining criterion for genre is the socio-rhetorical context, the categories defined by the community and communicative purpose. Therefore there is certain approaches of a genre to be effetively delivered to the audience after taking into account to what dictate an effective genre.
