In order to provide a safe-learning for every student in a class it’s important to have specific rules in place to help assist with classroom management. For example, its important to have specific classroom rules in place, establish classroom routines and procedures starting at the beginning of the year, along with seating charts that provide students with the best learning opportunities that match their individual needs. Students should feel safe in the classroom to participate in class discussion or ask questions when needed to enhance teacher and peer relationship. The suggestions above will go into more detailed below.
It is important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others to achieve a safe learning environment, that is orderly, co-operative and purposeful. A good way to initiate this is by establishing ground rules and set boundaries at the start of the course. This can be a dual input exercise, with both the students and the tutor having input, whilst ensuring the tutor’s
Dimension 3.1, classroom environment, routines, and procedures, the teachers is expected to organize and maintain a “safe, accessible, and efficient classroom” (TEA, 2016, p. 15). Dimension 3.2, managing student behavior, focuses on establishing expectations for behavior. And dimension 3.3, classroom culture, consists of creating a culture of mutual respect in which all learners are engaged (TEA, 2016). The focus of this domain is to ensure an orderly and safe environment for all learners by maintain high
Safety: Students know that they are physically safe and that they are not in danger in the classroom. Safety also includes students emotional and mental well-being, meaning that they will be free from emotional damage such as bulling or name-calling.
They also promote equality and diversity and controls the behaviour in the classroom. The first lesson should be about setting expectations and includes setting rules for the classroom. This is best done as a group to give ownership to the students as they are more likely to follow rules that are not imposed on them but agreed on together. The agreed rules should be displayed in a prominent position in the classroom and referred to when needed. Ground rules can be set by teacher alone, for example, ‘everyone student need to bring their protective equipment when conducting experiment’.
Teachers are not only expected to teach their students, but also provide an environment where everyone feels safe and can learn. Classroom management is a very important part of teaching. Students cannot learn in an unsafe, disruptive environment. This paper will discuss the strategy of SHAPING, how it is used to modify a student’s behavior, and give an example of how to modify a student’s behavior. This paper will also discuss my personal beliefs about classroom management, share rules and expectations for the classroom, rewards for individuals and the class, designing the classroom where the teacher is visible and there are no distractions, and discuss some classroom procedures and how they contribute to classroom management
On a Micro level it’s important to consider multiple factors that affect Authors school performance. The environment at The Morris Academy for collaborative Studies high school tries to provide an atmosphere that creates a positive experience for its students. It offers important attributes to adolescents such as a safe and secure learning facility. A safe learning culture refers to the physical, emotional, and intellectual security created for students to think, grow and learn. Since students learn in a variety of ways teachers at Morris strive to create an educational setting that is diverse and meets the students’ individual needs.
Students who feel safe are likely to feel comfortable to express themselves freely without fear of harm, judgment, or ridicule. Consistent routines help to develop the trust and safety necessary for positive outcomes with students. In order for a classroom environment to be safe, consistent, and trustful it is important for a teacher to get to know her students’ individual needs as much as possible. Trust, consistency, and safety greatly impact the functioning of a classroom and its outcomes. In order for any classroom to have positive outcomes, a teacher must prioritize those three components. If all of the components are present then students can make gains in some or all developmental
There is a need to make the school campus the safest place for students in order to advance their education in a safe environment. Issues such as bullying, violence, hate crimes, family issues, and natural disasters such as earthquakes or tornadoes are just a few issues that the school has to develop a plan to address if and when the need arises. Williamson and Blackburn (2010) posit that “the organization of your school can affect your ability to improve student learning” (p.65). Therefore, there has to be procedures in place to deal with these issues so that the teaching and learning process can be conducted in a safe environment.
In an online classroom, safety is the most important thing for people to have. To create a safe space in the online classroom can be tough, however, it is still manageable as long as people type and submit their message with cautious, especially when other can only see your words. Sometimes a single word can make the whole sentence seems off, especially in the online classroom and everyone is a stranger to each other.
The initial introduction into my class reveals it to be a safe environment. There really is no dumb question in the learning environment, learning that if one student needs to ask the question, there are at least two more who need to hear the answer. As a student in paramedic school, things did not come as quickly to me and I was always left not sure if I understood the concept. But I was afraid to ask questions. This is especially why I make the classroom pressure free, nonjudgemental and open for all questions. The environment needs to be fun, open, inviting, but held to the educational standards for learning. This, I make sure the students are aware of on the very first
In my school there are different safety policies for the events, but one thing stays the same throughout all of the safety policies and that is the bag. Each classroom has the red bag that hangs behind the door. Inside the red bag is three cards red, green, and yellow that are about the size of conduction paper and made of plastic. The red card is for a missing student, the yellow for an extra student and the green for all is good. Inside this bag is also an a set of instructions for every disaster along with a class roll for both of their blocks, a loud whistle and some latex gloves and Band-Aids in a small bag of their own. In every safety policy the teacher is supposed to bring the bag with them, and immediately begin taking roll, and digging out the card for the case.
Classroom management is a key element to establish a successful learning environment in any classroom. An effective classroom management plan creates a positive learning environment. Classroom management is affected by the characteristics of the students and their behavior. Students’ behavior is influenced by their age, academic abilities, goals, interests, and home backgrounds (Evertson, Emmer, and Worsham, 2006). Teachers need a diverse array of classroom management skills to facilitate learning. A classroom with a proper management plan will spend less time in disciplining and more time in learning. Students in effectively managed classrooms know and follow clearly defined rules and routines. A classroom management plan should provide
2) Create a safe classroom environment. Develop rules and procedures which provide a structured environment rich in routine and shared expectations. Develop and enforce rules prohibiting sarcastic, degrading, and berating remarks and comments by students directed at other students. In my classroom I implemented a "No Hunting" rule. No student may physically or verbally hurt another. Additionally, learn to use positive reinforcement instead of negative reinforcement to correct student behaviors. Lastly, provide copious amounts of praise and reinforcement for student risk taking. Become an advocate for each of your students. Take time out to let each student know how well they are doing. This could take the form of a short handwritten note on their papers, or verbal comment. The key is to focus on the students ' positive attributes and aid the student in developing an increased level of self-esteem.
The establishment and maintenance of safe and supportive classrooms that contribute to high quality student achievement are critical skills that are rarely taught at the university. Consequently, those skills must be crafted and honed “on the job.” Each school and each classroom presents its own unique challenges, and because
As a teacher it is important we create an environment which ensures our students feel safe and secure at all times. One way to accomplish this goal is through effective classroom management. It is important we take in to consideration the cultural diversity in our classroom before we make any final decisions on how to effectively manage our classroom. We must also decide what role our students, other faculty, parents, and the curriculum will play in choices we make to manage our classroom. Outlined in the next five chapters is a classroom management plan I have put together in hopes of creating a fun and safe learning environment.
