Wesleyan College is a school where I believe I will be challenged to the max, academically and mentally. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida, a city full of diversity, life and light, where one second you may be speaking to a Cuban American, such as myself, and the next minute you might find yourself speaking to someone from the Philippines. Growing up with such an abundance of diversity has prepared me to confidently take on any situation without hesitation. Wesleyan is a small, all girls school where I may be allowed to strive for success, without being distracted by my fellow peers but instead supported. I say confidently that I know I will be challenged mentally, for example, living far away from my family, which I so dearly
Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Western, taking courses for my chosen major: nutrition and dietetics.
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
Like most young boys I grew up idolizing sport heroes, racing kids on the playground, and playing sports outside. My teams were the Cowboys, the Astros, and later on in life the Aggies. Consequentially, if you didn’t love Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio than I didn’t really like you. Although most of these decisions were made based upon my brother’s sport interest, I learned to love them in my own way. After all, my brother was the one who I played basketball with, threw the football and baseball with, and eventually the one who inspired my love for A&M and the Aggies. For all my life I can remember wanting to play sports and wanting to watch sports, but around 7th grade when my brother moved off to A&M is when I really started getting the sports bug. Visiting for home games, standing in the
The fourth value enumerated in the Oregon State Police Officers Association’s mission is “to foster and maintain, among members of the Association, the highest standards of professionalism and devotion to duty.” A devotion to duty has become more to me than actively perform one’s responsibilities. What I believe has molded me into the young man that I am today is that I have set a precedent of service in my life so great that I want my entire to be devoted to it. Service has become the act that benefits and advances all people with the talents that I have been granted and in the ways I am trained to do, and I am in the process of dedicating my life to this continual form of duty.
I intend to use this scholarship to help pay for my tuition and books at the Southern Arizona University of Phoenix- Online. I would like to be considered for this scholarship because I have no financial help from my family. This means that I have to be able to pay for college on my own because of the fact that my father is no longer in my life, and my mom has my other siblings to take care of. My father is no longer in my life because he now lives in Mexico with his other family. I don’t have financial help from him because he has a wife and six other children. My mother would like to be able to help me, but she has two other children she’s taking care of by herself, and she has to prepare for my sister's graduation next year as well as mine this year. I plan to get a job after I graduate to help pay for the expenses of college, but since I am going online the expenses of college are going to be a lot less than if I were to go on campus, this is the main reason I am planning to go online, and to take a lot of the stress of being totally alone off myself because I will only be twenty minutes away from my family instead of an hour or two.
Growing up in South Carolina, there is a lot heard about the Clemson Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks. The biggest college football rivalry of the State. There are commercials, billboards, and flyers that advertise the big game every year. The amount of people that show up to the game is incredible. Thousands of people go to watch these college players duke it out to prove that their college is better than the other. The event brings in thousands of dollars, yet what most do not understand is that the same athletes who are bringing in the money aren’t getting paid to do their jobs. South Carolina college athletes should have some type of compensation for playing for the school.
High School wasn’t smooth sailing for me and my GPA wasn’t at its full potential. With senior prom and all my senior activities it felt as if time was slowly but surely running out. High school was some of my best years but I was dying to graduate and attend college and be on my own but in order to do so I had to score really high on the ACT or SAT. I was so nervous while taking the SAT and I didn’t do good as I wanted to, feeling defeated I studied really hard for the ACT. Even though I studied the butterflies when I entered the room where the test was being administered wouldn’t go away but I did feel more confident. I took the test and waited days for my results. I was so excited that I scored a 24. I learned that if you put your mind to something you will succeed every time. I took full responsibility for my future and I planned on having a bright one. I felt as a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. After receiving the good news I applied to a total of four universities and I was accepted by all of them. Even though I applied to different schools my dream college was to attend Louisiana State University. Unfortunately LSU’s nursing program is not like an average nursing program. Sadly their nursing program is not located on LSU’s campus
Growing up in poverty meant always being in a pinch for money. This led me to my decision of seeking a job within the first month of my freshman year in high school. Thankfully, this decision led me to the precious self-taught skill of time management. I was able to build my skills until my sophomore year. I tried to take on more shifts at work than I could handle, in aspiration of saving up for a car, and consequently my grades began to slip. I acquired my first C in my favorite class: Chemistry. Being an aspiring student in the medical field, and a student who prides themselves on their grades, I was devastated. As a result, I soon reached the epiphany that one has to have priorities in life; I chose mine to be education. I discussed with my boss my situation and she gave me a set schedule of a doable 4 days a week. This allowed me to do my homework and studying in advance. This also permitted me to get enough sleep,
I grew up in a world of little things. I appreciated the details in my daily life - the way my mothers voice changed as she read to me, the innumerable times my father checked his pockets before leaving for work. I liked the comfort of cramped library corners and well explored territory and small state schools. Growing up in Asheville, I considered myself wordly enough- I couldn’t imagine anything bigger than the mountains and stories ever-present around town.
I also am very well aware of the challenges that face college freshmen that range from choosing what classes to take to whether or not to abuse alcohol and drugs. I have two brothers at major universities and have learned from their successes, challenges, and shortcomings. I have participated in student government and conflict management and bring a unique perspective to every situation. I am also very aware that much of the education I will receive at Gonzaga will not necessarily occur in the classroom. I foresee that the experiences I have had in my life will positively influence those around me. I have a diverse background and have learned that acceptance of others is a giant step toward acceptance of yourself. I have volunteered in my community at the food bank and I hope to continue volunteer work while attending college. I also intend to participate in church activities and continue my spiritual growth. But, whatever God calls me to do or to be in life, whatever occupation I have, wherever I go, I will do it with compassion and help others to the best of my ability.
As a goal oriented young adult, I aim to express my motivation to apply for the Valencia College foundation scholarship. As a college student, I thrive on the challenges and obstacles that I encounter which allow me to continue become a successful scholar. My family for one, are the main source of motivation, which allows me to continue to excel in school. My past work experiences, also allow me to push through to my full potential in continuing my education. Lastly, my educational aspirations consist in becoming a registered nurse and to finally hold my bachelor’s degree in my hand. All these examples motivate me to continue to transcend in school.
To start, the high school that I am currently attending is founded upon the same Christian core values as Union University, so I already have a basic understanding of what Christian education looks like. My high school has played a pivotal role in shaping my beliefs and my actions in response to those beliefs. It is for this reason I can be confident that the four years I will spend at Union will be a positive influence on my educational experience. I am also confident that studying at Union will foster growth in my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While I am sure there are many other Christian colleges that are founded on the same core values as Union, it is unique in the ways it would inspire me to achieve academic excellence, while
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
The foreclosure crisis is the second major financial dilemma of the twenty-first century. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. Secondary (downstream) problems making the financial crisis more complex include underemployment and business failures. Many banks,
I am interested in Augsburg College because not only is it close to where I live but I feel it's a place where I will be able to succeed.I have heard many times the Augsburg College is very diverse and to me, that's one of the most important qualities I look for in a College.I think it's a good pace for me to accomplish my goals.Plus the Pre-Medicine program really intrigued me because it is a career path that I am very interested in.Something else that I liked about Augsburg College is there study aboard program.I have always wanted to travel around and see other places in the world plus learn at the same time.Another thing that Augsburg college has that I am very interested in is there Community service and Multicultural extraculicular activities. The
