School Dress Code
In the summer it gets very hot and humid, especially in the school buildings. From personal experiences a T-shirt and pants isn’t meeting their needs, it doesn’t let a student express who they are. Students can get highly uncomfortable throughout the day and may not give their full attention during their learning sessions. Clothing should not be one of the many objects that take away a student's learning. Self expression, pressure on student on what to wear, and personality should be a person's own decision not anyone else's.
Everyone has a different style and their own uniqueness. Most people like to express their own style through clothing. Such as goth all black clothing, name brand department store pink and american

Whos the one to be blammed? Students for wanting what is being advertised or the designers for making clothing that can only be worn on the weekends or on summer vacation. One that might find something cute and comfortable the other might find over revealing. Should the schools police be more valued or the students on what they would like to wear.
After all students should have more opportunity to express what they feel and how they want to portray themselves. There should be some agreement on what is over the top, but to also keep in mind that there are some solutions too the way people like to dress. Why couldn’t the school meet us halfway? Could there be a rule that allows us to wear shorts and not show too much. Most people can’t find shorts that are three inches above the knee let alone appealing ones.
Even though Self expression, pressure on student what to wear, and personality should be a person's own decision not anyone else's there are some ways to compromise. CHS school board should all come to a conclusion and have staff and students take a survey on what their personal opinion is about school dress code with the length and width of students clothing. Yes, fashion is always changing so why not let the student be free and change with it! Lets all be comfortable and enjoy the wonderful learning CHS provides for us. If everyone came together I believe the school overall could become a better
Many students think they should be able to wear the clothes they want to as long as they are not inappropriate.
The prominent reason behind the various overdone school rules regarding dress is the loose power that administrators have been given. They have been “reserve[d] the right to determine if a clothing item or accessory is appropriate for school” (Carroll High School Student Handbook 2010-2011 18). The officials at school are using their own personal opinions to judge the students’ dress. Since styles change as time goes on, the generation in control and the
Dress code has been a crucial part of public schooling for years. It seems to be growing more strict every year, as it should, with the ever changing clothing trends. How far is too far though? Is it necessary to be so focused on what students wear to school, sometimes more so than their education? Dress code in some aspects is too strict and only promotes negative feelings and judgemental peers. In schools and communities it is an extremely debated topic because there is a broad spectrum of solutions. It is also hard to enforce because rules that may apply to some may not apply to others due to differences in body type and opinions.
We all know that there is different rules in almost all school dress codes that apply to guys and girls. For example, at some schools guys can't wear beanies during class but girls can. A girl can't have shorts that reach before their fingertips when they have their arms down. I personally feel like there shouldn't be “dress code” because for many people they like to express themselves by what they wear, why should schools make people feel uncomfortable? Not having uniforms can make the students feel competitive on what they wear and where they have got their clothes from. For some students those things do matter, but for some of them it doesn’t matter they’re going to school to learn, not to impress people at school. Some schools hate what their students wear to school, but don’t they have like favorite pieces of clothing that they also love as much as the students do? If schools don't like what they are seeing in the student’s “outfits” each day then they should start making students to wear their school uniforms. 15 year old, Miranda Larkin, was sent to the nurse's office for wearing a short skirt that violated the school dress code, and they made
The clothing that some students are wearing is very distracting and affecting the learning of other students. Which is why in some dress codes, schools prohibit students from wearing shorts and dresses if not for a certain length requirement. When students are wearing inappropriate clothing it can get some students unfocused on the lesson. Others who disagree might say “Dress codes aren't fair to the students especially those that use their clothing as a way to express
Most educational institutions all across the country implement restrictions on what students wear when they are on school grounds. These restrictions include dress codes that address what students can and cannot wear and uniforms with similar outfits. The argument with dress codes and uniforms is that it helps students perform better in school by limiting distractions, while others claim that restricting what a student can wear at school can limit their freedom of expression. The immediate answer to the question “Should schools be able to control what students wear?” is a yes, all schools must-have control over what students wear in the school premise within the bounds of a dress code to establish an
What if I told you that, you don’t have a choice in what you can wear to some schools. Mostly high school and that’s the time when all children should express themselves and grow as individuals. Many schools around the world has a dress code policy that the students must follow. In America dress code policy has been around for more than 100 years. The first school dress code law was established in 1969 by the U.S. Supreme Court. “The constitutionality of these codes was first challenged in a 1969 U.S. Supreme Court case called Tinker v. Des Moines, which involved students who were banned by their school district from wearing black armbands to school to protest the Vietnam War. The court ruled in favor of the students saying they had the right under the First Amendment to wear the armbands; this set the overall standard in place.” (-Kimberly Yates). Many school board believe that dress code rules for students within their district to promote a safe, disciplined school environment, prevent interference with schoolwork and discipline. Some of the dress code policies in school are to strict and stop students from expressing themselves. This is still going on to this day, in schools around the world dress code policies interfere with a students’ right to self-expression. I believe that dress codes should be banned from schools and to let the students wear what they want to wear. Dress codes should be banned because the students are not able to express themselves, the system is a
Most schools have dress codes in place within reason: no crop tops, no short shorts, and no provocative clothing. Sometimes, the school's expectations of clothing cross the line. Some schools say that girls who wear leggings without a long shirt or a shirt that "doesn't fit them right" should have to change. Not every person
In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that could be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action directed towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for dress code checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly sent for checks based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing tops, ripped and low-rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and spandex for the girls. Then there are ill-fitting jeans and inappropriate slogans on t-shirts and sweatshirts for the boys. A uniform policy would eliminate the need for dress code checks, which would enable the vice principal to concentrate on more important issues within the high school. Not only would uniforms eliminate this disciplinary issue of student dress, but the incorporation of a uniform policy would better prepare students
If a person feels that they look good then they will feel good and have more self confident. If a student that’s in middle and high school they are old enough to dress themselves and choose what to wear to school. I don’t think someone should be able to tell you what kind of clothes to wear to school what they wear is there choice. When someone wants to wear a type of clothing that would be considered a violation that's there decision not the principles of the superintendent. When someone has an exposing type of clothing that should be there fault for wearing and deal with their own consequences of embarrassment or whatever else there could be socially.
Uniforms have been around for centuries, from back in the day when women had to wear dresses or skirts and men had to wear pants. To now where students and employees have to wear certain pieces of clothing. People dress to express themselves, schools tell their students to be who they are and to be proud; however, when the student tries to do so they are sent home or held in the office which not only takes away their rights to express themselves, but takes them out of class. According to Friedrichs, “A shocking number of students are actually sent home or suspended for breaking dress code, which means even more time out of class.” A school's job is to prepare children for their futures, that can be quite hard when the student is not there to learn. Dress codes can be overwhelming to maintain. A student's wardrobe isn’t going to be full of polos and khakis because they most likely do not wear polos and khakis outside of school. Dress code should not be as strict, hoodies should be allowed, tank tops should be
Students struggle throughout high school and go through a great deal of stress. Whether it be making friends, or working hard to pass a difficult class. To make things more pressuring, they are not allowed to wear what they want. The administration made the decision that it is best to suspend a student for their choice in clothing. If they go against the rule of dress code, there will be serious consequences. What students wear should not affect their class work. If a student gets sent home for their outfit, it is affecting their grades and attendance. Punishment disrupts the students education more than what they are wearing. High school students should feel free to embrace their individuality without being pressured by dress codes; therefore, it should be eliminated from all schools indefinitely.
Certain girls get dress coded for having a different body type then everyone else. Some girls wear shorts that are very revealing, but do not get dress coded, while others wear the same shorts but have to go change. Everyone has a different body and shouldn’t be punished for it. It’s also not fair how people with long arms can get away with shorter shorts than people with shorter arms. This problem could be solved by adopting a school uniform policy. In the late fall and winter time we could have a uniform long sleeve shirt option and jeans or khakis. In the early fall and late spring we could
Unfortunately, public school has become less about education and more about being fashion forward. As a society, there is definitely a higher tendency for people to judge a person’s entire personality solely on what and how they are dressed. The desire to have the latest trending clothes is in far greater demand than to have the highest grades. As a result many issues such as vandalism, bullying, sexual harassment, and even death have emerged into the public school system. Large numbers of students meet fail to abide by the dress code requirements while others requirements blatantly ignore school dress code policy As a result of this, multiple issues such as vandalism, sexual harassment, gangs, and bullying have been engulfed in the public school system. For this reason, I think that all public school systems should mandate a uniform policy because it helps lesson violence, allow students to experience a healthier learning atmosphere, and meet school regulations.
Pants below waist, baggy shirts with sexist signs, and piercings, this is not a good view early in the morning. That’s why the school should implement a uniform policy. Uniforms should be mandatory in school. Uniforms make the school appear more professional. Also with uniforms students won’t compare themselves with each other. Moreover uniforms can help students save time. Additionally parents won’t have to waste so much money on clothes hence will have a better budget.
