City college being one of the top CUNY school is a disgrace based on my experience. As a student at City College, I have taken notice that the financial aid and advisement department have a disorganized system and every transfer student that I had spoken too, are also displeased with the way the system works in both departments. On my part, adjusting to a new environment is a challenge because everything is new. So, transferring from Kingsborough community college to City college is a very big challenge because psychologically I am still following my previous school routine on how financial aid, advisement, appointments, and the semester works. I had no advisors to sit down with me one-on-one to show or talk to me about how things work in this school as a new student. So not having that right information, people, and tools it made things difficult for me. Therefore, to fix this setback for future incoming transfers, my suggestion is to create a program called IN-ORDER. This program will help transfer student to understand and clarify with them also instructions on what is the necessity for them to do, have, or know before school start and this program will correspond with the One Week Lean (OWL), Networking system, and Write with One program. This programs altogether will help transfer student to be able to get by their first semester with fewer obstacles. Typically, college students face a lot of difficulties that can make their determination and degree completion
As we pulled up to the massive elementary school building, I begged my mom to let me stay home from school, just once. As usual, she said no. Realizing my attempt to get out of school was futile, I shouldered my backpack, swung open the door, and trudged over to the front door. I would rather be anywhere else than here. For the majority of my life, I attended public schools. It wasn’t rare for me to fail a test or even a whole class. It was because of these failures that I would get even more demotivated and threw away the idea of working hard or completing quality work altogether.
The lack of guidance create a chronic stressor during college due to not understanding how to pick courses, how to study for tests, or how to meet professors without guidance.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
There are many challenges that first generation students face in pursuit of a college degree:
Through the years in America, more students in each generation of college are being successful and finishing college. "The latest data show that just 40 percent of Americans have finished an associate's degree or above, while an additional 22 percent attend some college but failed to graduate" (Kelly, p.1). The 22 percent of college students who are failing to graduate, could be the college students who are not being successful in college. There are many reasons why students are not successful in college. Some main reasons students are not successful in college are typical because of drugs, stress, time management and procrastination, lack of desire and persistence and also poor self-esteem and lack of self-confidence.

Each year thousands of students start college, though not all of them make it. Some students will go to college anywhere from a year all the way up to eight plus, as where others may only last a semester or two at the most. College is something that all students need to have in order to attain multiple opportunities The students who end up failing his or her college courses have multiple reasons as to why he or she may not have lasted as long as intended. Though most of them end up being rather foolish excuses. For instance, students not showing up to class on time, never doing his or her homework, not taking notes, refusing to give up relaxation time along with any type of social gathering, or it could just be as simple as him or her not understanding
As I grew older, I learned about the difficulties students face while trying to get the education they deserve. I
How does the famous proverb go, “Man plans and God laughs”? Well, this could not be more true for many of today’s struggling college students. The plan for most students once they graduate from high school is to go to a four-year college to get a degree and form themselves a career. Unfortunately, things do not always go according to plan. Life takes its twists and turns until some people find themselves unable to finish college as they had hoped. While there can be many reasons for this, certain ones are more common than others. Scores of students find themselves struggling with the high financial requirements of college, while others just seem to have bad luck. Whether a student falls into one of these categories, or both, it is inevitable

Academic success could never be fully measured by degrees alone, but it can include a person’s well-being as well as their mind and certain characteristics about a person that make them unique.
